Using The FitBit Force The Pros And Cons #VZWBuzz

January 20, 2014 by Momstart Leave a Comment

I purchased the Fitbit Force (on Amazon, but you can purchase it at a Verizon store, online or at an AT&T store), or rather, my husband purchased the fitbit Force for me as a Christmas present. It’s been very insightful into why I do or do not lose weight. The fitbit Force is the newest in the fitbit line of products and that along with the fitbit aria (the fitbit scale) I’m keeping up with daily weightless and gain. And I need to try to make myself weigh in only once a week because my weight fluctuates a lot and when I have a higher day, I get a little depressed on myself. Now, let’s talk about the ins and outs of this fitbit Force.

I have found two negatives:image

One, the fitbit Force is very difficult to put on your wrist until I had my husband put it on for me, I was losing it in bed every night and once, I lost it randomly in the house while I was cleaning. Ahhh, I thought I was going to have a total melt down if we didn’t find it. Luckily I found it.

image

Two, the fitbit Force doesn’t seem to track quick movements accurately or intense exercise very well. When I go to the gym, I feel like I get a good intense workout and it says I only did for half the time that I was actually there. Is it really accurate? And when I use the elliptical it doesn’t count all of my steps. I even tested it by going up and down the stairs at our house, I went up and down 10 times up and down all the way and it only counted four. Now either we don’t have a standard amount of steps or it’s just no accurate.

image

The Positives:

It makes me want to take more steps, and it connects with my fitness pal which more people I know actually use. So I can include my food, (the intake) and then see the outtake (the calories I burn) and know if I’m making any progress. Right now, I’m sort of stagnant at 150 pounds, one day I’m under another day I’m over, but last week I was on the couch almost every day without any exercise and I had some alcohol which my sister and I lovingly refer to as liquid fat. But starting today, I’m giving it up for the month. I really want to lose some weight and know that I can lose it if I give up all alcohol, drinks, wine and  just stop.

It sends me an e-mail when it needs to be charged. I love that it tells me that I need to charge it. Cause that’s something I would forget to check.

I had my husband buy one for himself and he says it’s awful at tracking how much you sleep verses how much you wake up and just lay there awake. I know that if you’re breathing slows down enough it thinks you are sleeping when you are not. But he and I do love to compare notes on how we are doing through out the day. I’m jealous that men burn more calories with less work than women do.

A few other things:

  • Monitors how long and how well you sleep
  • Wakes you (not your partner) with a silent wake alarm
  • LED lights show how your day is stacking up against your goal
  • Set goals, view progress, and earn badges
  • Share and compete with friends throughout the day
  • Syncs automatically with select mobile devices and to your computer
  • Free iPhone and Android App
  • Instantly launch your Fitbit app by tapping your device with your NFC-enabled Android phone
  • Easy-to-wear, slim, comfortable wristband
  • Available in two stylish colors – black and slate
  • Accessory bands allow you to personalize your Flex
  • Wear all day and night – even in the shower
  • Rechargeable battery

Out of those things, I use the silent alarm to wake up we very day. But my husband does hear it. I look at my count all throughout the day. I love how it sinks over Bluetooth to my phone, wish it did the same with my computer. Those USB dongles are very easy to lose.

Flex syncs with popular fitness apps for an integrated fitness regiment. Apps include Sparkpeople, LoseIt!, MyFitnessPal, MapMyFitness, Runkeeper, and Endomondo.

The Fitbit You Won’t Lose: The Fitbit Flex Wristband #VZWBuzz

June 27, 2013 by Momstart Leave a Comment

I walk I jump I play I lose. I’ve gone though two Fitbits you know? I received on and then I loved it so much that when I lost it I had to go out and buy another one right away. It was the first thing that ever motivated me to get to the gym day after day. When I lost my second one I was so upset. I sat on the couch and I didn’t know how to get off of it.

I finally just decided that I wanted to lose weight more than I wanted to buy another Fitbit. I mean, I didn’t want to pay for another one. They are, at least the second one I got was the Fitbit One and it’s about 90 to 100. I think these things need location, GPS or something on them. I started going to the gym and I was doing 2 to 5 miles a day at the gym on the eliptical but I still had no idea how I was doing overall, and I like to be able to look at my overall stats not just for that day. It would be good to be able to compare week to week like you can with the fitbit. You know the Fitbit one keeps track of sleep, stairs, and steps. Then Verizon introduced me to the Fitbit Flex Wristband.

20130607_111256

It’s a wristband. I won’t lose it. It won’t fall out of my pocket. It’s cool. It has a fun light. It comes in other colors and it will help me on my wait loss journal.

What you get with a fitbit:

I WANT ONE!

COMPATABILITY
Flex syncs with popular fitness apps for an integrated fitness regimen. Apps include Sparkpeople, LoseIt!, MyFitnessPal, MapMyFitness, Runkeeper, and Endomondo.

  • Tracks steps, distance, calories burned and active minutes
  • Monitors how long and how well you sleep
  • Wakes you (and only you) with a silent wake alarm
  • LED lights show how your day is stacking up against your goal
  • Easy-to-wear, slim, comfortable wristband

I really want to be able to track my exercise. I love how the fitbit works and I love how I can compare my stats to other people and that I get a weekly status report. I need that to keep me active. I need that system to keep me going.

Feeding The Fitbit Addiction On Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 #WindowsChampion

March 13, 2013 by Momstart 1 Comment

This is a really hard thing for me to admit to but yes, I’m addicted to my Fitbit. I received my Fitbit just a little over two months ago and I’ve been challenging myself for a while to find a day where I could get 15,000 steps in. On most days I’m lucky to get in only 3000 steps. I sit on the couch a lot working from my laptop. Because I’m at the couch all day for the first few weeks it was very hard to find ways to get over 5,000. I would take a nap instead of going to the gym. As I’ve found myself getting to 5000 lately and 10,000 on occasion, I was quite proud of myself when I reached 15,000 yesterday. Each time you reach a new goal you earn a badge and you can set your account to share on Facebook tweet out your badges and daily accomplishments. (I’m not so fond of it sharing with the world how lazy and in active I am most of the time) But I’m still addicted because it gets me moving more.

image

Fitbit is on Windows 8, it’s an app that you can download and use on your desktop. From the app you can sync manually but you don’t have it. It seems that as long as you have the fitbit dongle plugged in it will sync automatically whenever you are near it. When using the app sometimes I have to bump the fitbit to wake it up

image

Then I can go to Fitbit.com and find out all about my stats. If I had more time I could find out how to manage my eating. I could also find out my sleeping habits if I purchased their newer device the wireless sleepband, which I might just do. I already have the scale that connects wirelessly to the network. It’s so cool to track all my exercise and like I said before, I have to challenge myself just to get to 5000 steps a day with the ultimate goal being 10,000 steps a day.

image

Today was actually an active day because I went to the Gym this morning and you can see that by my steps I’ve already taken today. I’m at 9,000. WOOT!  Fitbit is also on Windows Phone 8 (at least sort of), a few different developers have written their own versions. Let me tell you what I think of them so far.

That’s the Fitbit Companions version I can’t even log into it.

Fitbit Companion allows Fitbit tracker users to access statistics about your activity. This app supports viewing your tracker- and body details (activity, sleep, body, devices). It allows you to get some details for a specific date or gain some more perspective using historical data. You can also log activities, sleep, body weight and body fat percentage. A fitbit device is not needed to use this app. It can also be used to track activities, sleep and body details. This application is NOT an official Fitbit application, but is created by a fan. It uses the official Fitbit API and doesn’t share your personal information outside of this application.

The DotNetNuzzi Fitbit Tracker works quite well. You can add water, food, exercise and weight. works much better!

The DotNetNuzzi WP7 Fitbit Activity Tracker helps you view your activities, food, water, and weight entries wherever you are to assist with tracking your progress towards your goals. The DotNetNuzzi Fitbit Activity Tracker syncs up with your account on the Fitbit website so you can have an overall view of your stats and back up your data. A summary of the features are listed below. DASHBOARD – Check your stats for today and up to 2 weeks in the past – See your latest Steps, Floors Climbed, Calories Burned, Active Score, and Distance Traveled when your Fitbit Wireless Tracker* syncs with a base station LOGGED ACTIVITIES – View your logged activities for today and up to 2 weeks in the past – See your Name and Description total distance and steps logged – See your total calories burned or a break down by activity logged LOGGED FOOD ENTRIES – View your logged food entries for today and up to 2 weeks in the past – See your calories, carbs, food names, brands, fat, fiber, protein, and sodium for food entries logged – View a total calorie count and a break down by food logged LOGGED WATER CONSUMED – View your logged water consumption for today and up to 2 weeks in the past WEIGHT ENTRIES – View your logged weight entries for today and up to 2 weeks in the past – View an active chart of the your weight entries to monitor progress YOUR PROFILE – View your profile information, such as Name, Nick Name, Birthdate, Weight, Height. Note: This DotNetNuzzi Fitbit App and any information given by it, is for informational purposes only. They are not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice. You must also have a network connection and a Fitbit account to use the app. Fitbit, the Fitbit Logos are trademarks or registered trademarks of Fitbit Inc. The Fitbit family of products motivate you to stay active, live better, and reach your goals. The Fitbit app enables you to view graphs of your activity levels, sleep and weight and gives you a clear picture of your health and fitness trends. You can stop by select Microsoft Stores to see devices, learn about the app and get hands on with Windows 8.

I’d love to know what your daily steps are!

Adding The Fitbit Aria Smart Scale To Your Get Healthy Routine #ATTSeattle #Giveaway

February 3, 2013 by Momstart 34 Comments

The Fitbit Aria Scale available at AT&T online and in their retail stores is really intelligent. Not only does the Fitbit Aria smart scale let you track your weight, but you can also check your Body Mass Index (BMI) and your body fat percentage and view them on the scale. There is a very bright numerical display that shoes you all the information and shows you what process it’s doing during the set up.

IMG_3486

The setup really impressed my husband, even though we douldn’t connect it to our wireless he was still very impressed with the technology built into the scale. You use your computer to talk to the scale, it provided the scale with your network information, then the scale connects to your computer, then it connects to your network and in that final step it fails at our house. Why? because your security is too strong. We went through the on-line help and it said that you have to have a password under 31 characters I think and ours is longer and we’re not going to change it. I was hoping that I could connect it to our phone’s wifi but the Aria is not set up to do that. So my husband is going to have to set up a guest account for the scale to connect to but he hasn’t had time to do that yet. He’s going to have to do some re-wiring, so I’ll be waiting a while before I could use this scale. Since using the Fitbit, I’ve been very anxious to use this scale with it.

Because the scale uses Wi-Fi to connect to your wireless home network – with a range that’s up to 3X better than most BLUETOOTH® scales – you can share data with family or friends inside your home.

IMG_3487

Your Fitbit Aria smart scale helps you keep track of the important milestones on your weight management journey. It automatically taps into your, home wireless network each time you weigh in and uploads and saves your information to Fitbit.com. With the Fitbit Aria, you can analyze your fitness stats using easy-to-read graphs, helping you to stop fixating on short-term changes and focus on your long-term progress. When you weigh in, the Fitbit Aria uploads and saves your information to your Fitbit.com account. With this account, you can track your progress with easy-to-read graphs that show changes in your weight, BMI, and body fat percentage. But weighing yourself Is only part of the equation – the Fitbit Aria provides a complete weight management system that gives you lots of online tools to help you achieve your goals.
