We have kids in our community that go without breakfast during the summer time because during the school year they get free breakfast at school. In the summer time they don’t eat unless we keep our food pantry stocked with cereal or other items for their parents to pick up for them to eat. Of course this isn’t the only community that needs help, or the only need.
You can watch this Fruit for All Project Documentary Video which follows the lives of three children impacted by Feeding America’s produce program. It makes me really sad to know that children in the world or just within the US are going hungry. The reality of it is that over 16 million American children are food insecure which means they are at risk of going hungry, and just like in my community when they are out of school the risk goes up. 18.7 million children were without the assistance of reduced price or free meals last summer.
We have enough food for everyone, we just need to help those that need the help. Juicy Juice is part of a program helping children get fed this summer. They are calling it the Fruit for all project. Together with Feeding America and celebrity mom Samantha Harris they vow to get 35 million pieces of fruit in the hands of children and families in need.
