In Love With My Oral-B Tooth Brush It’s a Perfect Father’s Day Gift #oralb

June 19, 2015 by Momstart 2 Comments

This is a partnered post with Oral-B all opinions are my own.

I’ve used all kinds of tooth brushes over the years and this is the first time that I’m just adore my tooth brush. It’s the perfect combination of tech and functionality. You may think I’m just exaggerating but really I’m not. This tooth brush is amazing, it has Bluetooth technology in it. You may be thinking why in the world does it have Bluetooth, my husband and I both thought that. It’s so you can program it and keep up with your dental hygiene with your phone.

image

With the rise in smart devices that enable users to track and improve their health, the Oral-B Pro 7000 SmartSeries with Bluetooth Connectivity fits seamlessly into the world of digital health and fitness tracking, ensuring users keep their bodies and mouths healthy.  Via Bluetooth 4.0 technology, the elegant and sophisticated Oral-B Pro SmartSeries electric toothbrush connects to the enhanced Oral-B® App that provides real-time guidance while users brush, and records brushing activity that users can share with their dental professional, helping to create smarter and more personalized brushing routines.

image

I have set my tooth brush to brush for four minutes at a time and I have enabled all six modes. I have daily clean, deap clean, sensitive, whitening, maddage, and tongue cleaner all available on my handle. It can save up to 20 session on the brush and then you’ll need to make sure you sync with your app. While I’m brushing I can view a timer and see how long I’ve been brushing and to move onto a certain quadrant. You can even set up a custom timer for up to six quadrants depending on if you have more trouble areas. Your dentist can help you decide which areas you need to brush in more. I know that my back right side is a big trouble area for me so I spend a little more time in that area.

image

Now what makes this a perfect gift for Father’s Day? If your husband or dad in your life is anything like my husband then they are fascinated with their tech. They love to play with things. And you’re also making sure they have a healthy mouth in a fun way. The gift of a beautiful, healthy smile is special and unique, just like the father in your life. This Father’s Day, Oral-B wants to help you say thank you for all the ways Dad made you smile by keeping their smile healthy. Father’s Day Weekend is Get a Frosty. Give back.

June 14, 2014 by Momstart Leave a Comment

By EMILY:

Celebrate with Wendy’s Father’s Day Frosty Weekend Promotion June 14 & June 15

It’s easy to please my Dad on Father’s Day, pictures of the grandkids and a special meal are all he ever asks for. Of course we slip in a new electronic gadget or tool as well, but what he most looks forward to is simply time with the family. This has become our Father’s Day tradition and in the past few years we’ve added onto that tradition by participating in the Wendy’s Father’s Day Frosty weekend promotion. No one in our family can resist a Frosty treat and I must admit the Frosty waffle cone, my personal favorite, is match made in heaven!Wendys_image

For the eighth consecutive year Wendy’s is making Father’s Day even sweeter with its fan-favorite Father’s Day Frosty Weekend promotion.  Throughout Father’s Day Frosty Weekend – Saturday, June 14, and Sunday, June 15 – participating Wendy’s restaurants will donate 50 cents from the sale of every Frosty product to support the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption® (DTFA), an organization that works to help find permanent, loving families for the more than 134,000 children in North America waiting in foster care to be adopted.wendyslogo

What better time to spoil Dad and the rest of the family with their favorite Frosty treats?

“Father’s Day is the perfect time to continue my dad’s legacy to help children in foster care find permanent, loving dads (and moms),” said Wendy Thomas, daughter of Wendy’s founder, Dave Thomas, who was adopted as a boy.

“In the past eight years, Wendy’s has raised more than $12 million through our Father’s Day Frosty weekend program,” said Liz Geraghty, Vice President, Brand Marketing. “This promotion gives us a chance to rally fans around a cause that’s at the core of Wendy’s, and provide our customers with a sweet way to give back to the community.”

Wendy’s Father’s Day Frosty Weekend promotion will be underway nationwide for only two days so be sure to make it a part of your Father’s Day weekend! For store locations and to learn more about Wendy’s Father’s Day Frosty Weekend promotion and ways to give back, visit www.wendys.com/adoption.

The Gift That Makes Dad Say: AWESOME Philips Norelco BeardTrimmer 9100 & Giveaway

June 9, 2014 by Momstart 94 Comments

I gave my husband his father’s day present last night because I had to review it so you guys would want to go out and buy one for the dad, father of your own children before father’s day. We received the Philips Norelco BeardTrimmer 9100 and my husband said, what, really, a LASER, this is awesome! Then later he said, you know, the people at Norelco must have been sitting around the table throwing around, we’ve already given dad’s the best razor out there, what can we possibly do to excite them now? Then they decided we should just find a way to include a laser, because what guy doesn’t like something flashy?IMG_1949

Experience ultimate control with an exclusive laser guide, allowing you to create the exact look you want with total confidence

And it’s so true. He was like a kid and he couldn’t wait for me to be ready to review it. He asked me two days in a row, starting with the day we received it if I was ready to review it. Last night we went upstairs and he got to play with his brand new toy and I have to say, his beard hasn’t looked so trimmed in quite a while. I think his old razor probably needed a new blade because WOW! Of course it could have a little to do with how precise you can get with the Philips Norelco BeardTrimmer 9100.

The Philips Norelco BeardTrimmer 9100 (Model # BT9285/41) provides you with perfect precision for any IMG_1953look. And he had the perfect look when he was done.

While I was watching him, I was at first not impressed, I didn’t see a laser, he told me he was first trimming his beard and then he was going to do the “precision” trimming. IMG_1959

The built-in laser guide allows you to create the precise and symmetric style you want with confidence, by projecting a trimming line on your face so you can pre-align the trimmer. The dual-sided reversible trimmer delivers ultimate versatility with a high-performance trimmer on one end and a detail trimmer on the other. The 17 built-in length settings deliver a precise and customizable trimming experience without the need for multiple attachments for less hassle. It was a straight result. SO NICE. IMG_1963

The LED display clearly indicates your chosen length setting. The self-sharpening blades made of finely ground Chromium steel prevents stubborn irritation. The high-performance Lithium-ion battery provides up to 60 minutes of cordless use after a 1 hour charge. The device is fully washable, simply rinse the device under the faucet for easy cleaning. BeardTrimmer 9100 comes with a 45 day risk-free trial and a full 2-year warranty. Packaging includes: electric trimmer, contour-following comb, stubble comb, power cord, cleaning brush.IMG_1957

He’s very satisfied with his new razor and I’m satisfied with his new clean shaven look.

Celebrating Dads And What They Love Most #FollowItFindIt #eBayDad

May 19, 2014 by Momstart Leave a Comment

“My blog post was written as part of my collaboration with eBay.”

Fashion For The Every Day Dad

My husband loves tech and stays up to date with all of it. He also loves video games, and clothing and now traveling too. He’s a fantastic guy and I love very much and one thing that I find super amazing and yes even sexy is that he’s a good dad. I love seeing him dote on his children and it makes me so happy. He’s an amazing dad, yes I just said that and I’m going to say it again and again.

DSC00200

eBay is celebrating dad’s too with Father’s Day with collections! If you show the eBay community what you love about your dad, you are also giving them a chance to win. Two entrants who create an #eBayDad collection will be chosen to WIN a $500 eBay shopping spree. The sweepstakes runs for 2 weeks, today Monday May 19-June 1, 2014. I’ve created two eBay dad collections. I created one about clothing and sports gear like really cool shoes that I know he would love and I also created a tech collection which I actually called, gifts dads actually want. I’m thinking about creating another collection that is for my dad and step dad too just because generationally what they love and what I think about them is completely different from what I think about for my husband. For my “dads” I would put a lot more tools and outdoor items in it because that’s what they prefer. They both use their hands a lot.

beats headphone

My husband loves music and has mentioned that a pair of new headphones would be a great gift. So I put that in the Gifts Dad actually wants #eBayDad.  As I mentioned above he loves to travel now. For the longest time he didn’t want to go anywhere and then he fell in love with going on cruises. So travel equipment is a great gift for him. I really love the idea of solar powered travel equipment for tech. solar powered charger

This is a solar powered USB charger and then below is a solar powered keyboard.

keyboard

For my other collection I created for my husband the Fashion And Clothing Ideas collection I put in clothes that I know he would either love or things I would love to see him wear. Like I know he would love these shoes because they are so colorful. He’s a colorful guy!

shoes for dad

Creating these boards makes me eligible to win the 500 shopping spree for dads so you should go create one too!

To create your own collection:

You first have to log into e-bay and then just start looking at things you know they would like. Then click “add to collection”

Give it a good title and include the hashtag “"#eBayDad

Collections should reflect something that is inspired by your dad and or what you would get your dad for Father’s Day.

Collections must contain at least 10 items and a great place to start looking would be on the Gift Ideas for Dads page.

Help Dad Work Towards His Goals This Father’s Day With The Vivofit Fitness Tracker

March 27, 2014 by Beeb 20 Comments

Vivofit

Vivofit Fitness Tracker provided for review.

Father’s Day is just around the corner – and if you’re looking for a great gift for the outdoorsman, athlete, or any dad with fitness goals, the Vivofit Fitness Tracker is a nice choice. Fitness trackers have been getting a lot of attention lately as a good way to both keep track of your progress and inspire your workouts. Jai and I have both been working our way towards more and more of our fitness goals in the last few years, and one of the things he loves to do is go jogging. There is an Android app that he used in the past for recording his progress running, but now that he has an iPhone, he can’t use it anymore. He’s been looking for a replacement for some time now, so I was curious to see what Vivofit had to offer!

Vivofit Fitness Tracker

Garmin’s Vivofit Fitness Tracker is worn around the wrist like a watch, and can be used to display time, the number of steps you’ve taken today, how far you’ve walked, and how many calories you’ve burned. Paired with their Garmin Connect website, the Vivofit generates customized fitness goals for you, so you can glance down at any time to see how far away you are from the day’s goals. What’s more, the fitness band detects when you have been inactive for an hour or longer and displays a red bar, which is your reminder to get up and move; the bar grows the longer you sit. As people with desk jobs, this made both Jai and I nervous. 😉

Vivofit displaying the time

But the Vivofit isn’t just an exercise tool, it’s an all-around health monitor. The Vivofit Bundle comes with a heart rate monitor that you strap around your chest and pair with the band; you can also report your bedtime and wake time on Garmin Connect to keep track of how much sleep you’re getting. “Sleep mode” also ensures that the red bar is turned off during that time! The sleep tracking is purely self-reported; it does not track motion to gauge sleep quality. The Garmin Connect reports show you the number of steps taken, but it does not record information specific to running, such as distance, time, or location.

Garmin Connect

The Vivofit Fitness Tracker is water-resistant, so Jai was able to wear it with confidence down to the beach for a jog; you can even wear it in the shower. That, coupled with a battery that is meant to last for a year, means that you can effectively wear it all the time for a more accurate picture of how much exercise and rest you’re getting every day.

Vivofit on the beach

The fashion-minded can also buy extra Vivofit Bands to jazz up the tracker and coordinate with your outfits!

Vivofit Bands

Yesterday night, I did hear Jai saying, “Oh, I have to walk around the house to meet my step goal for the day!” – so I do think it encourages you to be that much more active! In all, I’d say this is a great starter fitness tracker for any person who wants a way to record their progress as they go through their daily activities.

The Vivofit Fitness Tracker retails for $129.99 by itself and $169.99 when bundled with the heart rate monitor. Get one just in time for Father’s Day by visiting Garmin.com!

Father’s Day Gift Pick: Garmin HUD+

March 21, 2014 by Beeb 4 Comments

Garmin HUD+

Garmin HUD+ provided for review.

A few years back, Jai and I were on vacation in England, and we were looking for souvenirs to take back home. Jai was having a hard time finding anything that his father would like, and my dad said, “Yeah, dads are hard to shop for!”. If even dads don’t know what to get for other dads, what hope do the rest of us have for finding the right gift?! 😉 Luckily, I am here to help with a gift that is guy-tested: The new Garmin HUD+.

The HUD+ – Head-Up Display – is a new innovation from Garmin that utilizes your smartphone’s built-in GPS to more closely replicate a standalone GPS setup. When I heard about this product, I immediately knew it was something that would be put to use in our car. You see, a few years ago I bought a GPS system during a Black Friday sale; it was great while it lasted, but sadly, it ended up getting stolen. In more recent times, we’ve simply used our respective iPhones to navigate while driving. This works pretty well, but is not without its drawbacks; since we are very strongly against texting while driving, we’ll either prop the phone in the dash or have the passenger hold it up for the driver. Since phones have such a small screen, this can make it hard for the driver to see the map. Not to mention, if you hit a dead spot in cell phone coverage, you are out of luck for navigating any further!

Garmin HUD+ Device

Garmin’s HUD+ aims to address some of these issues. There are two parts to this system: The first is a free Garmin HUD navigation app that you download to your bluetooth-enabled phone; the second is a small box with a screen which affixes to your dashboard. The device projects data wirelessly from the app onto its removable screen or on the windshield, if you prefer. Personally, we prefer projecting onto the small screen, as we find it more readable than reflecting off the windshield; however, it’s nice to have the option, especially since visibility will change depending on the time of day.

Here’s what the readout looks like when pointed on the windshield – I’ve circled it in the photo, since it’s harder to see when shrunk down into a small image:

Windshield readout

This is how it looks when projected onto the removable plastic screen:

Screen readout

The readout includes arrows directing you as to where to turn, how many feet until the turn, how long until you reach your destination, the speed limit, and your actual speed. This is accompanied by a voice that reads out the directions. The window display is very simple, but that’s a good thing, since it’s not cluttered and gives you the necessary details as you need them. And when you need more detailed information, all you have to do is glance down at your phone, as the accompanying app has a full, detailed map navigation in real-time. One neat detail that we noticed is that the app will display Google Earth street view images when it finds them – that’s certainly a helpful feature, since we all know different street layouts can look in real life as opposed to a map.

One way that the Garmin HUD navigation app differs from other GPS navigation apps is that it requires you to download the full series of maps before heading to your location. The downside is that this takes up space on your phone; the upside is that your maps will continue to work if you are outside a cell coverage area – that is my #1 problem with using smartphones as our sole GPS, and I definitely think it’s an awesome feature, since we’ve taken screenshots of maps in the past to be safe just in case we lost the connection while driving!

The app lets you either navigate directly to the address in question, or pull up suggested destinations based on category; for example, if I hit “Points of Interest-Shopping-Grocery”, it pull up a list of all the stores in my town. The app also has some fun features, like Foursquare integration – I’ll definitely make use of that during our travels!

As for the functionality of the GPS itself, we haven’t had to drive any long distances this last week – it’s a miracle! – so we’ve only given it test runs in our hometown, which is very small and easy to get around. We did notice the navigation pointing us the wrong way once, which happens with all GPS apps; I’ve had much worse happen, like the time that a different GPS advised us to make a u-turn in the middle of the freeway. 😉 It also seems to be a little slow to update if you miss a turn or choose a different street than what it suggests. We think both of these things are due to the GPS in the phone itself, rather than the app; it’s doing the best it can working with the data it’s receiving from the phone.

In all, I think the Garmin HUD+ will be a big improvement on our previous smartphone setup and save us some real hair-pulling and hassle the next time we have to navigate through the labyrinths of Portland. I’m also looking forward to using some of the other features in the HUD+, such as traffic delay info and lane change advisories – things we haven’t really been able to test just driving around the corner to the grocery store. 😉

So how do I know that this would make the perfect Father’s Day gift? Because coincidentally, the Garmin HUD+ happened to arrive on Jai’s birthday, and he was so happy about it! If the dad on your list loves gadgets and/or drives a lot, then this is a great gift for him!

Garmin HUD+ - perfect for navigating down to the beach on sunny days!

Garmin HUD+ – perfect for navigating down to the beach on sunny days!

Garmin HUD+ is compatible with iPhone 3GS or later, iPad 2 and up, Windows 8 Phone, and some Android devices; it retails for $179.99. Get yours today at Garmin.com!

5 Affordable Gifts for Your Man No Matter the Occasion

5 Affordable Gifts for Your Man (or dad) No Matter the Occasion

Guys are not that hard to buy for when you know what kinds of gifts they appreciate. Some gifts are specific to holidays such as Christmas or Valentine’s Day or Father’s Day, but there are plenty of gift ideas for guys/fathers that are used for any occasion.

Tickets to His Favorite Sporting Events

clip_image002

Image via Flickr by grgbrwn

Is your man always trying to catch the latest game on the television? If he is, he will be sure love a gift that would allow him to see the game live such as Dallas Mavericks tickets. Whether your man is a basketball fan, baseball fan, football fan, or even a hockey fan, tickets to see his favorite sports team will sure make one impressive gift no matter the occasion and better yet, it won’t drain your wallet.

Novelty Ice Cube Molds

clip_image004

Image via Flickr by Kevin Saff

Guys are sometimes entertained by the strangest things, and it often does not take much to make a guy laugh. Novelty ice cube molds in the form of skulls, animals, eyeballs and other things can help a guy to entertain at a party while adding some of his own personality. As soon as you show him how to add food coloring to the water to create colorful ice cubes, you will have something that will keep him entertained for hours.

Sunglasses For His Outdoor Activities

clip_image006

Image via Flickr by marksweb

There are designer sunglasses which cost hundreds of dollars per pair, and then there are the designer sunglasses that are significantly less expensive. A pair of Ray Bans would make a great gift for any guy and it would be something he would wear any given. Sometimes non-designer sunglasses that just look unique would be just as effective. The primary purpose is for his eyes to be protected when he’s at an outdoor sporting event or even just mowing the lawn.

Pop Culture-Inspired Boxer Shorts

clip_image008

Image via Flickr by markhillary

There does not need to be any special occasion to present your man with a pair of novelty boxer shorts. You would be surprised at how excited he would be to start a collection of novelty boxers that he would probably wear on a regular basis. Guys love silly stuff like that, especially when the boxers have images of their favorite movie or cartoon characters on them. Try giving him a pair of novelty boxers and then see just how much he looks forward to the next pair.

His All-Time Favorite Films on Blu-Ray

clip_image010

Image via Flickr by Heungsub Lee

Guys love movies and a man’s Blu-Ray collection is never large enough. To avoid buying him a movie he already has on Blu-Ray, try buying him a classic movie that he may have on DVD, but not on Blu-Ray. There are plenty of classic comedies, war movies and westerns that you can buy on Blu-Ray that will keep any guy occupied for hours.

If you want to get a guy a gift that he will appreciate no matter what the occasion, then it helps to know what kinds of things guys like. Guys enjoy gifts just as much as ladies, and there never needs to be a special occasion to get a man the perfect gift.
