Throw a Prequel/Sequel Party Before Hitting the Theater @Fandango #Fandango

July 16, 2013 by Momstart Leave a Comment

fandango badgeGoing to the theater is always fun and so is a night in every now and then. With so many movies coming out being sequels or prequels it’s fun to throw a family movie night party to refresh your memory. In our case it’s often the first time we see a movie because both the kids are finally really sitting through the movie without having to get up for something so I wrote a piece for Fandango about preparing food and having a fun party before going to the theater….I’m a contributor to Fandango’s Family Room.

This post was originally published over on Fandango’s Family Room” as part of their Ambassador campaign. I’ve received Fandango Gift Cards for my time.

Three of the big children’s movies this summer are sequels or prequels to movies that already came out, and it’s quite easy to have a great party, celebration or movie night in preparation of the new release. My family loves to get ready for new movies because we go all out, starting with getting all dressed up. My kids love to create ways to get dressed up in a themed way.

The next movie to come out as a sequel for kids is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. I was watching a preview for it with my kids as we were watching Despicable Me and my mind went crazy with ideas! Now our party plans are all about the food. We are going to have special chocolate-covered popcorn with M&Ms and marshmallows, meatballs on a stick and, of course, we will be watching the original Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Here are a couple of my recipes for you to try out:

Who Has the Best Voice @Fandango Movie? The Voice The Voice It’s all About the Voice #Fandango #MonstersUPremiere

June 11, 2013 by Momstart 2 Comments

I’m a contributor to Fandango’s Family Room. This post was originally published over on Fandango’s Family Room” as part of their Ambassador campaign. I love watching movies and enjoy going to the theater whenever possible. Now that the kids are getting older we’re starting to get back to the theater and I’m up on the latest movies. Kids movies more than anything and with the help of some friends on Facebook I came up with this list of voices that make the movie!

When watching animation, CGI, stop-motion — what ever it may be — the feeling of the character comes through the voice. And it’s a complicated process, even though you may think it’s all about reading from a script. I’ve actually had the chance to do a voiceover for two different movies (no, it wasn’t put in the movie, but just for the experience!). I voiced Piglet from the newest version of Winnie the Pooh, and then I also voiced Vanellope Von Sweets in Wreck-It Ralph. It’s amazing to be in the studio and learn that the actors have to do so many different inflections to really get into the part. So who does a great job?

Well, I really did love Sarah Silverman in Wreck-It Ralph. She was such a spoiled brat, and it was cute and disgusting at the same time. I mean, I wanted to slap Vanellope all the way from my seat, yet I felt bad for her plight. I also really love listening to Larry the Cable Guy as Mater in Cars and Cars 2. Larry the Cable Guy seems to be the same person offscreen as he is as Mater. He’s all country, guts and fun loving. He is so easy to love as a character and I so enjoy that.

Thinking of other actors I love behind the magic of animation, I must include Billy Crystal and John Goodman. I love Billy as Mike in Monsters Inc. He’s constantly making sarcastic remarks and I can’t wait to see him and John re-create their characters in Monsters University on June 21. I’ve gotten to see the first 40 minutes of the movie already and it had me laughing pretty hard. The banter between Mike and Sulley cracked me up.

image

Other favorites include Queen Latifah, John Leguizamo and Ray Romano in Ice Age; they make quite the trio. What really draws me to an animated voice is the humor they can bring to a film. Robin Williams in Aladdin will always be one of my favorites. You just can’t picture the Genie as anyone else, can you?

Movies coming out this summer will be bringing the voices of Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig and Ken Jeong to the big screen in Despicable Me 2 and the voices of Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Maya Rudolph and Samuel L. Jackson in Turbo, plus the voices of Val Kilmer, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Dane Cook and Carlos Alazraqui in Planes. It’s going to be a packed summer that my kids and I are looking forward to.

Want to Get to the Movies on Time? Here’s How! #Fandango

May 22, 2013 by Momstart 2 Comments

I’m on Fandango.com!!!! EEEEKK, I’m so excited to share that I’m a contributor to Fandango’s Family Room. I wrote an article over there about getting to the theater on time as a family. I don’t like to miss the previews so I like to get there early. this post was originally published over on Fandango’s Family Room” as part of their Ambassador campaign. The goal of the campaign is to promote the Fandango Family Room, share how easy & convenient using Fandango.com is and to just promote family trips to the movies in general.

Getting to the theater on time

I hate being late to anything and last Halloween we went to go see Hotel Transylvania and it was opening weekend on a Saturday and we were running late. We saved some time using the Fandango kiosk at our theater but we still walked into an almost full theater. The only place for four people to sit together was in the nosebleed section, in the very front where we had to look up the whole time. My husband wanted to leave but I couldn’t do that to the kids so instead I sat there in a bad mood until the movie cheered me up. It happens to be a movie that the whole family can enjoy we all ended up leaving smiling. I felt we were lucky, so I’ve made a plan to make sure we always get to the theater early, not on time, early. Here’s how to get your family to the theater on time:IMG_6353

imagePlan for 15 minutes early

If the spouse is going, you might want to tell them that the movie starts 15 minutes earlier than it actually does. My husband waits until the very last minute to get to the theater, anywhere really but he likes to get places at exactly the right time and that doesn’t allow for time you need for things to come up because you know they will.

Find the right theater

I love going to the theaters that do the 10 I think it’s called. Then it’s much easier to convince my husband to get to the theater early. He won’t be as bored if there is something he can watch. Plus it’s a lot easier to keep the kids entertained instead of running up and down the aisles.

Use Fandango to find the theater that has the movie you want to see that’s close to where you are. If you’re home you probably know which theater is closest to your house. If you’re out and about you can find one that might be closer to you. Know how long it will take you to get there and give a little extra time and pick one close by.

Buy Tickets in Advance

By buying tickets in advance you avoid the line at the theater. The line that morning we were running late was very long and there wasn’t a line at the fandango kiosks. But I’ve been to larger theaters where there are lines at both. When it’s a very popular movie the movie might be sold out if you don’t get your tickets early. I’ve had that happen before too. Then if I really wanted to see the movie I had to watch it at 10:00 PM and now that I’m a mom, I would just end up going home. So I’m responsible now and buy tickets in advance.

Taking Kids Be Prepared

When you are taking kids to the movie you need to be prepared. Make sure the kids take potty breaks before you leave the house. Be prepared for a diaper change if you’re at that stage, every time I had to be somewhere on time we would have a surprise diaper right when it was time to leave the house. Have snacks ready or make sure you plan in time for the snack line. Kids are full of surprises, you might even want to get them ready early and have your bag packed. You know the bag you carry everywhere as a mom, also known as the bottomless pit of a purse.

Visit Fandango’s Family Room to see what is playing in theaters, read reviews, commentary, celebrity interviews and trailers. Once you’ve picked out a film, you can easily plan when and where you’ll watch the movie and conveniently purchase your tickets online and bypass the box office at the theater. Universal Pictures Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax

February 25, 2012 by Momstart 321 Comments

Zoe adores Dr. Seuss. She’s learning to read and after reading one of his books to her just a few times then she can read the book back to you. Tomorrow I’m going to take the family to an early screening of the Lorax and Zoe and Miles are both super excited. Last time I went to the mall with Zoe saw 4 different posters advertising the movie building her anticipation. Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax was transformed into a movie by the same people that created Despicable Me and the movie trailer entices me to go see it.

I started writing this post last night and didn’t finish it. I was coming to put this final touches on it this morning to find that we’re not going to make the screening. Zoe, who was very excited to see this movie is sick. I think she’s more upset about missing the movie this morning than she is about being sick.

This animated adaptation on Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is a 3D-CG feature. Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, is a classic tale of a forest creature who shares the enduring power of hope. Dr. Seuss always has a larger picture right, a lesson to be learned.

The Lorax movie poster

The animated adventure The Lorax follows the journey of a 12-year-old as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams and I can admire that. He then finds himself discovering the story of The Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.

Danny DeVito will lend his vocal talents to the iconic title character of the Lorax, while Ed Helms will voice the enigmatic Once-ler.  Also bringing their talents to the film are global superstars Zac Efron as Ted, the idealistic youth who searches for the Lorax, and Taylor Swift as Audrey, the girl of Ted’s dreams.  Rob Riggle will play financial king O’Hare, and beloved actress Betty White will portray Ted’s wise Grammy Norma.

Summer Fun & Protection Cars 2 Band Aid Neosporin & Fandango

July 4, 2011 by Momstart 552 Comments

Playing outdoors is something we do all year round. When it’s warm out though we have fewer clothes on and the kids seem to be more daring, or maybe it’s just because…whatever the reason when we’re outside in the summer time, the scrapes, cuts, bug bites and boo boos in general go up exponentially. So we have to stock up on band aids and Neosporin.

BandAidCars2

When we go to the store and I’m looking for anything on the medical isle the kids always notice the Band-Aid Brand bandages because of the fun characters they know and love. Have you noticed we’re a Disney family around here?

BandAidDisneyFairies

Getting bandages and medicine on the kids after a boo boo is often difficult at best. So having something that they enjoy makes the experience a little easier on mom and dad. Now I’m going to be honest here, the plain Band-Aid bandages are not my favorite. They don’t stick on long enough, but the kids sure do like them. So I think it’s a draw.

BandAidPhineasFerb

Cars 2 has been out and has been doing really well at the theater. Which means that kids’ love of them will be re-ignited, even though in our house the love of them never died. So yeah, Cars 2 band aids are always on the list for my son Miles. One fun, easy and affordable way to bring the characters home is with BAND-AID® Brand Decorated Adhesive Bandages featuring all of your favorite Cars characters and scenes.  Kids will love covering their cuts and scrapes with these Band-Aids.  They’re perfect to bring to the beach, camp or on a summer road trip!  In addition to Cars, BAND-AID® Brand has some newer character bandages out as well—Phineas & Ferb and Disney Fairies—that’ll make healing fun.

This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to Joanne Schultz.

We received samples to facilitate this review.
