The Epson LabelWorks 300 – A Great Gift for Dad… and a Fun Tool for YOU!

May 31, 2012 by Momstart 16 Comments

clip_image002By : Ashley

The Epson LabelWorks is quite possibly one of my favorite household tools these days. Labels, labels, and more labels! I have used my new label maker to label light switches in my new house to help me figure out what’s what, identify the recycling versus the trash can, and will even be using it to organize my son’s play area! It sounds crazy, but this handle little portable label maker is AMAZING!

clip_image004Yes, I have fallen in love with my Epson LabelWorks 300, but do you know who else would love it? My husband! With Father’s Day just around the corner, you should remember that Epson LabelWorks could make a great gift for any do-it-all dad! It seems like dads always have a ton of stuff that needs organizing… and if the dad in your life is anything like my husband (or my own Dad!), they like things to go in a certain way in a certain space. The portable Epson LabelWorks LW-300 and LW-400. help dads organize their tools, cables, business files, children’s toys, and more! clip_image008clip_image006

There are over 40 tape cartridges available (including glow in the dark), multiple font selections, easy borders, accents, size options, and more! All of these features make for a great product with a TON of uses. You can even watch some of the Epson LabelWorks videos to see it in use.

With Father’s Day just around the corner, the season for having kids at home quickly approaching, and ANYTIME being the right time to get organized… the Epson LabelWorks is a smart choice! clip_image010

The Epson Stylus NX430 Small In One

January 30, 2012 by Momstart 4 Comments

The Epson NX430 Small in One is very much like the Epson Artisan 730 Printer in appearance that I reviewed back in November. It’s just much smaller with fewer ink cartridges. It only has four ink cartridges. The Epson Small in One much like many other Epson printers is super easy to hook up to the internet it’s push enabled. At least that’s what I like to call it. You push a button and it connect to your wifi and you can print to it from anywhere in the house, which is a huge time saver in my opinion.

Epson Stylus NX430 Small In One

Set up was a breeze

image

The printer quality is as expected and when it comes to Epson I have high expectations. The Epson Stylus NX430 is designed for simplicity and comes complete with a 2.5" color LCD and built-in memory card slots for PC-free printing. In addition, the new Small-in-One offers hassle-free printing on-the-go with Epson Connect, a new portfolio of cloud and mobile services enabling users to print web pages, photos, documents, and e-mail attachments directly from tablets, smart phones and other mobile devices directly to their Epson printers.

image

I love to read reviews and see what other people are saying about technology and one reviewer wrote that the Epson Small in One isn’t really that small and having reviewed a few printers over the years, I have to disagree. The Epson small in one is much smaller than most all in one printers. Compared to the Epson Artisan 730 Printer, I would say it’s half the size. The paper tray is in the back instead of on the bottom. It uses fewer ink cartridges as I mentioned earlier. I suppose compared to the very first printer I owned it’s about the same size, no I take that back it’s still smaller. My college printer that only printed was taller and the same width so I’m pretty impressed with the size and quality ratio! It’s good on both accounts.

image

Scanning is really easy and making modifications are really easy. I love the options of scanning to card or to computer, but it seems just as easy to scan to card and walk over to my computer. One other thing I really love is that the printer is very quite.

Epson Stylus NX430 Small In One ink

the Stylus NX430 Small-in-One   is designed to meet busy families’ home printing, scanning and copying needs. Featuring superior all-in-one performance in an unprecedented space-saving design, the affordable Epson Stylus NX430 packs outstanding print quality and ease-of-use into the smallest footprint available for the feature set.

Epson Artisan 730 Printer Review

November 3, 2011 by Momstart 1,176 Comments

The Epson Artisan 730 Printer is fast. They claim it has the world’s fastest 4”x6” photo print speeds and brilliant Hi-definition photo quality. The versatile Epson Artisan 730 premium home all-in-one allows consumers to speed through everyday projects with 4”x6” photos in as fast as 10 seconds.

IMG_5661My husband was really excited to help me with this review and he said, “it’s fast!, but I’m not sure I would say it’s the fastest in the world”. I thought it was really fast but when it’s moving it’s printer heads it’s kind of loud. It prints quietly but getting prepared to print is a little on the noisy side. When tested by my husband on the 8 x 10: It took about 10 seconds for the printer to start printing. Then it printed the whole 8.5 x 11 photo in just under a minute.IMG_5665

The Epson Artisan 730 comes equipped with Epson Connect, a new portfolio of cloud and mobile services enabling mobile users to print documents and photos directly to their Epson printers from a mobile device. Epson Connect offers two solutions – Email Print and Epson iPrint. Did you catch that? You can send your printer an e-mail. E-mail print jobs to the printer. And when my husband set it up, it tested itself. It printed. I love the photos it prints. It’s a really great photo printer. I’m very happy with the Epson Artisan 730 as an all-in-one printer. The only thing it’s missing is the ability to fax.

IMG_5664

The Epson Artisan 730 has the ability to print onto cd’s and DVD’s. My husband tested out this feature too. We had a Halloween production at school. It was Noah’s Ark day and the kids all dressed up like animals. He recorded it and made copies for our friends parents. Since he was already using the DVD’s what a perfect opportunity it was to decorate the CD’s. He was a tad disappointed that it didn’t print from edge to edge but let me tell you, it was a miniscule edge. I had a hard time seeing what he was complaining about. But some people like perfection so I’m just laying it out there for you guys to make your own decision. IMG_5663

The very versatile Artisan 730 all-in-one is built to perform, combining power and convenience in a sleek, midnight blue design. With built-in Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ n wireless networking memory card slots4, a 2.5” emerald green smart touch panel display for easy PC-free navigation, and unique photo printing capabilities. It can be used as a photo copier, scanner, and it saves to memory cards or prints directly. Before using make sure you have the most recent firmware and drivers. IMG_5662

Other Features Worth Mentioning:

IMG_5666

· Six-color Ultra Hi-Definition Claria® ink delivers vibrant color photos and crisp, clear text
· Prints last up to four times longer than those from a traditional photo lab6
· Built-in Auto Photo Correction automatically evaluates and corrects images – better than the competition
· Automatically removes red eye
· Easily brings old, faded photos back to life with convenient color restoration
· Advanced MicroPiezo® print head technology ensures sharp, accurate ink placement, while optimizing print speeds
· With “smart” nozzles, this powerful technology delivers droplets in as many as five sizes, some as small as 1.5 picoliters, ensuring remarkable precision, sharper detail and outstanding image quality – every print, every time
· Epson’s advanced MicroPiezo technology used in the Artisan series is the same technology featured in wide format printers used by professional photographersArtisan 730_Reflection

This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to the winner, Amber.

All rules can be found under giveaway rules.

We received the Epson Artisan 730 Printer to review here on MomStart. At the end of the review process we have decided to donate the printer. Because I’m working on a charity event that needs donations for an auction and this printer will be an outstanding donation because it’s such a great printer.

Epson PictureMate Show Review and Giveaway

June 8, 2010 by Momstart 856 Comments

Epson makes a lot of great Techie Products, projectors, scanners and printers to name a few. They even bring a new definition to portable printers.

image

Meet the PictureMate Shows.

image imageimage image image

Epson sent me a PictureMate Show to review, it retails for 299. It is different from most printers in that it only prints 4 by 6 photos or smaller, you can divide the photo into 4 and print 4 2 by 3 photos.

It is unique because it has the screen, it’s not a touch screen, it comes with a remote that you can use to navigate the menus. The screen can read all the photos on any digital card and show them as a photo show. The best part is that after you print a photo it is stored on the hard drive so after you print and take out your cards then you can watch all of the photos you printed. My daughter was so excited the other day to see a photo of her puzzle she took. We were doing an organizational project and she was helping. You can choose from 12 different slideshow formats, there is a calendar, a clock, and a museum tour just to name a few.

You can print in 37 seconds, it’s quiet, ink is easy to load, you just push it in with your finger like you can see in the photo above. The screen is 16:9 tilt digital photo display with WVGA resolution (800 x 480) to easily view and edit photos. It has a handle for easy portability and you can get a case for it to protect it for travel.

Additional Compatibility for Added Convenience

  • Prints from PDAs and digital camera cell phones with optional Bluetooth® adapter4
  • Supports PictBridge®

WalmartWalmart Announces 100 Toys For Just $10 to Kickoff Holiday Shopping

Retailer launches early savings on more licensed toys, favorite games, and active play items

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (Sept. 30, 2009) – Walmart (NYSE: WMT) is making a stronger commitment to creating more smiles for moms and children this holiday season, bringing back its $10 toys section in all stores today and expanding its $10 holiday assortment this year to more than 100 toys. The retailer has included among its $10 prices and Rollbacks a strong assortment of newly released toys, top brands and classic toys that shoppers seek out each holiday season.

The $10 toys assortment is the first of several programs Walmart will announce this holiday season to bring 12 weeks of added savings in a year that has been increasingly tough on consumer wallets.

Moms are getting ready and so is Walmart.  According to Walmart customer research, by the month of August 55 percent of shoppers report having started budgeting for their holiday toy shopping, and 39 percent say they have started watching for deals. In fact, 70 percent of consumers report planning to start their holiday toy shopping before Halloween, and 2 out of 10 will have finished by that time.

“With the popularity of our ‘10 for $10’ toy program last October, we knew it was important for customers that we bring it back and offer an even greater amount of $10 toys this year,” said Laura Phillips, chief toy officer and vice president of Toys, Walmart.  “We began working months ago to ensure we could also introduce many toys at just $10 for this holiday program, as well as roll back prices at a time when our customers were ready to make purchases.”

The $10 toys are not limited time offers, but last through the Christmas holiday.  In addition, Walmart’s price guarantee will match any local competitor’s advertised offer on the same toy product if it falls below $10.

Walmart $10 Toy Highlights:

Following are a few examples of the breadth of toys in Walmart’s $10 assortment, some of which are being newly introduced at $10 and others reduced 20-50% off Walmart’s every day low price:

    • New Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Deluxe Action Figures
    • Barbie Cut and Style Rapunzel doll
    • Games such as Connect 4, Battleship, Monopoly, Trouble and Jenga
    • Vtech Explore and Learn Helicopter
    • Tonka Light and Sound vehicle assortment (firetruck, dumptruck, etc.)
    • New Littlest Pet Shop Online Animals (virtual pet) or Littlest Pet Shop Playpack sets
    • Clean-Up Pup Barbie Play Set and Mermaid Splash & Style Barbie
    • New Play-Doh Burger Builder Set
    • New Garanimals line Bath Boat (with squirter) and ABC 50 wood blocks kit
    • Hot Wheels Trick Track
    • LEGO Bionicle Legends set
    • New Nerf-N-Force Sword
    • My Little Pony So Soft Newborn
    • Little Dreams Interactive Baby Doll

With its $10 price selection for the 2009 holidays, Walmart has added more offerings for a wider variety of age groups, as well as toys that support role play, imagination, active play and family engagement – areas of interest to parents and caregivers today.  “Toys and board games bring families together through play. With a variety of toys offered today, budget conscious families can still find many ways to be engaged together,” said Reyne Rice, Toy Trend Analyst for the Toy Industry Association.

The United Nations has designated the first Monday each October as World Habitat Day.

This year on Oct. 5 in Washington, D.C. and around the world, please join Habitat for Humanity in support of this global observance as we come together and declare that the lack of decent, affordable housing is unacceptable.

According to the United Nations, more than 100 million people in the world today are homeless. Millions more face a severe housing problem living without adequate sanitation, with irregular or no electricity supply and without adequate security.

Worldwide, more than 2 million housing units per year are needed for the next 50 years to solve the present worldwide housing crisis. With our global population expanding, however, at the end of those 50 years, there would still be a need for another 1 billion houses. (UN-HABITAT: 2005)

Raising awareness and advocating for change are the first steps toward transforming systems that perpetuate the global plague of poverty housing. World Habitat Day serves as an important reminder that everyone must unite to ensure that everyone has a safe, decent place to call home.

The U.N. further states that both developed and developing countries, cities and towns are increasingly feeling the effects of climate change, resource depletion, food insecurity, population growth and economic instability.

Rapid rates of urbanization cause serious negative consequences – overcrowding, poverty, slums with many poorly equipped to meet the service demands of ever growing urban populations.

With over half of the world’s population currently living in urban areas the U.N. believes there is no doubt that the “urban agenda” will increasingly become a priority for governments, local authorities and their non-governmental partners everywhere.

U.S. Housing Facts

* About 95 million people, one third of the nation, have housing problems including a high-cost burden, overcrowding, poor quality shelter and homelessness. (National Low Income Housing Coalition: 2004)

* One in three American households spend more than 30 percent of income on housing, and one in seven spends more than 50 percent. (Joint Center for Housing Studies: 2006)

* The number of low-income families that lack safe and affordable housing is related to the number of children that suffer from asthma, viral infections, anemia, stunted growth and other health problems. About 21,000 children have stunted growth attributable to the lack of stable housing; 10,000 children between the ages of 4 and 9 are hospitalized for asthma attacks each year because of cockroach infestation at home; and more than 180 children die each year in house fires attributable to faulty electrical heating and electrical equipment. (Sandel, et al: 1999)

Global poverty facts

*By the year 2030, an additional 3 billion people, about 40 percent of the world’s population, will need access to housing. This translates into a demand for 96,150 new affordable units every day and 4,000 every hour. (UN-HABITAT: 2005)

* One out of every three city dwellers – nearly a billion people – lives in a slum. (Slum indicators include: lack of water, lack of sanitation, overcrowding, non-durable structures and insecure tenure.) (UN-HABITAT: 2006)

* UN-Habitat has reported that because of poor living conditions, women living in slums are more likely to contract HIV/AIDS than their rural counterparts, and children in slums are more likely to die from water-borne and respiratory illness. (UN-HABITAT: 2006)

* Housing formation generates non-housing related expenditures that help drive the economy. (Kissick, et al: 2006)

* Investing in housing expands the local tax base. (Kissick, et al: 2006)

The theme for World Habitat Day 2009 is “Planning our Urban Future”

Celebrations of World Habitat Day in Washington, D.C. will be an excellent opportunity to foster global discussion and raise the profile of shelter and urban issues at the national and international level. Events in the United States and around the world include policy forums, award presentations, luncheons, dinners, house-building and exhibitions.

Delayed First Visit to Dentist Can Affect Children’s Lifelong Oral Health

– Caregivers don’t clearly understand importance of primary teeth –

OAK BROOK, IL (September 24, 2009) – Most American children don’t see their family dentist until they are well over 2 years old, far later than is recommended by both dental and medical professionals.

That’s one of the key findings from a survey[1] of American children’s oral health, conducted on behalf of Delta Dental Plans Association, the nation’s leading dental benefits provider. Delta Dental commissioned the survey to gain greater knowledge about the state of children’s oral health.

The survey of primary caregivers revealed that, for those children who had seen a dentist – and 34 percent had not – the average age at the initial visit was 2.6 years. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that a child go to the dentist by age 1 or within six months after the first tooth erupts.

Importance of Primary Teeth Not Recognized

Among children who have never visited the dentist or who have not seen a dentist in the last 12 months, the most mentioned reason (62 percent) was that “the child is too young” or “doesn’t have enough teeth yet.” Lack of insurance coverage was cited by 12 percent of the caregivers.

According to the AAPD, it is very important to keep primary teeth in place until they are lost naturally. “Baby” teeth:

· Help children chew properly to maintain good nutrition.

· Are involved in speech development.

· Help save space for permanent teeth.

· Promote a healthy smile that helps children feel good about the way they look.

The American Academy of Family Physicians recommends that care for a child’s gums should begin at birth. According to the Delta Dental survey, 35 percent of caregivers clean their baby’s gums just a few times a week, or less.

Caregivers should gently wipe the baby’s gums with a soft, wet cloth after each feeding. When primary teeth begin to appear, they should be cleaned with a soft, child-sized toothbrush and a pea-sized dab of children’s toothpaste, twice a day.

“Many Americans don’t understand how important their children’s baby teeth are to lifelong oral health,” said Jed J. Jacobson, DDS, MS, MPH, chief science officer and senior V.P. at Delta Dental. “There’s a continuing need for more education to teach practices that will ensure lifelong oral health. And, since people overwhelmingly prefer the dentist and dental hygienist as their primary oral health information sources, dental benefits that encourage visits to the dentist are crucial.”

The not-for-profit Delta Dental Plans Association (www.deltadental.com) based in Oak Brook, Ill., is the leading national network of independent dental service corporations specializing in providing dental benefits programs to more than 54 million Americans in more than 89,000 employee groups throughout the country. In 2007, Delta Dental formed a partnership with the National Head Start Association to help improve the oral health of the nation’s children at a critical time in their development.
