Most of the time when you think of an emergency kit you think of life or death essentials like medical supplies, emergency food rations, and water. Lots and lots of water. An emergency kit not only need survival items but also fun items for the kids. If the power goes out, you will want to keep the kids calm and their minds on something other than the fact that the power is out.
I have this video of the kids when they were babies, we lost power and we were all sleeping in the living room on a blanket. I wanted us all in the same room in case they needed something, plus they didn’t want to go to sleep with the power out. I showed them the video not too long ago and it freaked both of them out. It was a night-cam vision camera so the video was green and they were so freaked out seeing themselves green. But to me, I’m so grateful our camera had batteries and that I have this video of them sleeping in the dark so peacefully. So I would say the number one item for any emergency kit is Duracell batteries of all shapes and sizes.
Now, I went to Walmart to purchase a summertime disaster kit that includes things for the kids. Walmart is amazing because they have those wonderful everyday low prices including Duracell batteries.
I purchased Duracell Quantum batteries:
And the Uno Attack game. Our family loves playing this game
We also love to snack during family nights and by turning a summertime disaster into a family night will calm everyone’s nerves. And you can’t have a family night without food like Cheetos.
A really good flashlight needs to be included. But having one for each person makes a game of flashlight tag the best game in the world.
The final thing I want to put in our family summertime disaster emergency kit is a few more games for their LeapPad and Vtech V-readers.
Now I feel we’re ready for any type of summer disaster.
Our final kit included:
Duracell Batteries of all shapes and sizes
Vtech Reader, LeapPad & LeapPad 2 with games
Here is a video showing you guys what we put in our kit:
