Interview with Delivery Man’s Cobie Smulders & Chris Pratt #DeliveryManEvent

November 25, 2013 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Should you watch Delivery Man? Is it worth going to the theater and spending 15.00 a ticket?

Yes, yes Delivery Man is actually worth the money because it’s a fantastic movie and if you haven’t seen it, it’s a great movie to take your family too. In fact, if you need a new family tradition, try out ours, go see a movie Thanksgiving night, or the day after instead of going shopping. Nothing in the world will get me out there shopping on Thanksgiving day or Black Friday. Now to further influence you to go see Delivery Man, I have an interview with Cobie Smulders and Chris Pratt

Cobie Smulders

Q : How did you first become involved?

Cobie went first:

Well, I’m sure all of you know this but I’ll repeat it anyway.  It’s based on the original film (which) is a French Canadian film by the name of Starbuck.  I saw that a couple of months before I even read the script or anything.  I really loved the film.  I was really moved by the story.  I really loved the characters.  I really loved that it was Canadian because I’m Canadian as well and then I heard it was being redone and was kind of surprised ‘cause I thought it was such a great film.  Obviously, it’s nice for it to come to America and I was also excited that Kevin Scott, who wrote and directed the original, was gonna do our version as well and I just thought he had such a strong vision and he had such great storytelling ability that I just knew it was gonna be a good movie.  And then I heard Vince was attached and so I started just auditioning.  I just went in and auditioned and met with all the guys and convinced them to give me the role.

Q : What was your favorite place to film?

Cobie :

In New York.  I loved shooting in Brooklyn. We shot in Carol Gardens, we shot in Parks Slope and we shot a lot of our exteriors there. I think my character’s apartment was there and a lot of the outdoor scenes that we shot were in Brooklyn as well and I’ve always wanted to shoot a movie in Brooklyn. I was really, really excited that we were able to because nowadays it’s usually Detroit for Brooklyn and so just to keep the cost down or whatever. I think at one time we were looking at New Orleans but I feel that in this film, the city of New York is such a strong character in our movie and it just adds so much to it, visually and it also just made it so much fun to shoot in. I mean you’re in Brooklyn and instead of going to get your coffee at craft service you go to like the local coffee shop and have a cup of coffee. It just made everything just much more fun.

IMG_9354

Q : How did being a mom affect your role?

SMULDERS :

Well very much. I mean this movie is really all about parenting. It’s all about what it takes to be a parent so I, I automatically connected with that. I was pregnant in this film, not in life but I had the fake belly on and, uh, I, I remember just crazy emotions that come into play when you’re pregnant and I think that one of the things that I know I crave and I think that pregnant women do crave is stability. You know, you’re in this situation where especially if it’s your first child a lot of things are unknown and in terms of this movie, the character of Emma, she has a very unreliable partner so she’s just sort of trying to figure all that out. Being a mom?

PRATT :

Well for me, my son was had just been born when I was doing this movie. I think he was maybe two months old. So for me I wasn’t necessarily able to relate to my character’s journey as a father in this movie ‘cause he’s like so overwhelmed with the idea of being a father. I was still finding every little tiny thing endlessly fascinating about my own son. But I did miss him a lot and so like they were moments in the performance where I needed to just stare off into space and think about something that bummed me out. The fact that I was away from him was something that I could go to if I needed to so that was, that was my way out.

Q : How did you gain weight?

Chris:

Well, really applied all of the principles of losing weight and just reversed them.  You know, I had just come off from a movie where I had gotten in good shape.  I did this movie, Zero Dark Thirty and I got in good shape for that.  In a way like how a lot of people lose weight I just crash dieted and worked out and starved myself until I was skinny.  So by the time I was done with that movie my body was really ready to gain weight, rapidly.  My wife was in the last third of her pregnancy and so a good 20 pounds of that was probably just sympathy weight and gaining weight alongside her as we indulged in things that we don’t normally eat.  And then I had a meeting with the director and I saw the original movie.  The actor who played my role in the original, really brilliant actor, and part of the charm was that he was a bit of a bigger guy and I thought that this is really great.  It’s a role where I can gain a lot of weight and I’ve always wanted to do that.  I’ve done it before once and I really wanted to do it again and see if I could really push it this time and so I did it.  Everything you think, you know, minus any guilt.  It was really great.

Q : What was it like working with Vince?

image

SMULDERS :

I loved working with Vince.  I think he’s everything that you would kind of expect him to be.  Super funny, super quick.  Going into this movie I was very intimidated because he’s sort of known for his amazing improv, and I am very rusty and so when I came to this film and met him, he was so supportive and he’s also very considerate and very charming.  Like he really goes out of his way to put everyone at ease on set and set the tone for everybody so it was pretty great.

PRATT :

I feel the same thing.  I mean, really I mean he’s beloved by people, his fans and people because he just seems real.  You know, he seems like a regular guy and I think that he’s everything you would really hope that he would if you’re a fan of his.  He’s not like some Hollywood A hole.  He’s no nonsense when it comes down to doing work. He does work and makes sure everyone around him does good work and that’s important as the captain of the ship.  But at the same time, charming, caring and, he’s polite.  He’s polite to everyone from the people who are his wait staff in restaurants to fans and strangers on the street who approach him, who like him.  He always gives a little bit of himself to people so he’s really everything you’d hope he would be.

Q : What’s your favorite scene?

SMULDERS :

I had this great seen with Vince at the end of the film, this very long scene where he goes into a, into a speech proposing and then things start unraveling. And that was a really great scene to shoot because it was, I mean it was just this monologue, this never ending monologue and Vince just did a great job with it and for me it was very fun to play off of not only just as an actor but the circumstances being I just delivered a baby and so there’s a lot going on. it was a fun thing to play.

Q : Was it  improvisation?

image

SMULDERS :

No Scripted. The movie was very scripted to sort of go back to what Chris said. I think that what happens is when you’re doing more improv in a movie or on a set in general like things, you just throw things out and things switch up. I mean this because Ken had such a strong vision for this film and, and maybe even stronger because this is the second time he did it. he really was specific about the characters and how he wanted them to relate to each other.

Great and fun interview!  Now, have you been to see Delivery Man for yourself yet?  I would love to hear if you liked it as much I did.

Delivery Man Delivers Humor, Heart and Happy Endings #DeliveryManEvent

November 22, 2013 by Momstart Leave a Comment

I’ve seen Delivery Man twice now and it just gets better every time I’ve seen it. Vince Vaughn has more to him that just a comedian that ad libs his movie lines as he goes, he has many sides to him. The ability he has to say the funniest lines, like it’s the most serious of issues just cracked me up. The movie as a whole is a fantastic opportunity to go out on a date, it’s clean for the whole family, and entertaining to boot.

Let’s get into the meat of the film…

Is it possible to be the father of 533 children? Is it possible to be the father for four children? David Wozniak is struggling with his finances, his girlfriend, and his meat delivery job. His girlfriend drops the news on him that she’s pregnant and that he’s not allowed to be the father until he gets a life. He owes a huge amount of money to loan sharks, and then he finds out he’s the father of 533 children. He has an identity crisis, (Yo no soy David Wozniak). Life just fell in his lap and he is faced with the decision of letting these children know he is the father or making money suing the fertility clinic. What does he decide? He decides to be a guardian angel to these kids…..

delivery man

The premise of the movie is hilarious and how David handles everything is hilarious. And I love how his family is full of love no matter the circumstances and how everything comes together for him in the end. He’s an adorable character with more heart than most people have. As David struggles to decide whether or not he should reveal his true identity, he embarks on a journey that leads him to discover not only his true self but the father he could become as well. It also poses the question? What is a real family?

Don’t forget to connect with DELIVERY MAN on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. This film is out now in theaters. Delivery Man truly is a great heartwarming movie to see with your family this Thanksgiving season. This film is rated PD13 and runs 103 minutes long.

Interview With Vince Vaughn: Delivery Man #DeliveryManEvent

November 20, 2013 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Earlier this month I interviewed Vince Vaughn for his upcoming role in Delivery Man. In Delivery Man Vince plays a character that gets into trouble all the time only because he believes the best in every person. He’s so innocent and loving he’s trusting and details are last. You’ll love this family movie and see what I’m talking about when you watch it this Friday November 22nd in a theater near you.

IMG_9482

What made you want to play David Wozniak?

VV- You know, the director is a very passionate storyteller, and I think what he is doing with this story is really unique and inspiring, because it’s not an overly obvious way in to some very kind of sentimental and universal feelings I think about parenthood and also about life. But it starts with this kind of big concept. But what’s interesting to me is, you know, nowadays movies can be just a comedy or just sentimental or, or just a drama, and I think the skill  set that, that Ken (Scott) has, which is very unique, is that it kind of is all of those things in one movie. So, it’s makes it a very unpredictable story. You’re not quite sure what emotion’s gonna come next. And also I think being a young father, the hopes and fears that you have for your kids really is strong in those vignettes.

IMG_9492

He goes on sharing the layers of the kids characters in the movie relating to being a dad.  (A possible spoiler alert)

VV – There that one scene where you hear the girl’s clearly being taken advantage of. It’s heartbreaking. But then (there’s scenarios where) something as simple, hey, I’, proud that my son’s on this basketball team.  And so, I think it really in a unique way — even the scene with the kid where you like you give him the keys to the truck and (I can say) it’s like is it not cool to say please and thank you. So in a way, it’s like all the things that you kinda go through as a parent  but it’s done in a very unique way, and so it kinda cracks you open. And even with the stuff with the, with the boy who’s in the wheelchair, you know.  What’s very moving to me about that is — which I think really liked about the character from the beginning and I think I can relate to this sometimes. I think a lot of us can, is  he doesn’t know how to love that kid.  It’s not that he doesn’t love the kid.  He doesn’t know his value in that situation. When he first wants to leave it’s actually because he’s intimidated.  He doesn’t have the self-confidence to say how do I express affection or warmth.  And the woman really helps him and says, just be there. You know, just talk to him.  And then it’s nice that he has that thought to go pick him up and include him, and it just starts to feel like this is just normal and this is nice.  And it’s nice for the, for the boy, but it’s also I think nice for David and for the other kids, but it’s really that bridge of figuring out what’s my way in to share these experiences with somebody.

image

A dad of now two kids, how did it affect you in this role?

VV –  Like a little bit of what I was talking about in that you’re so cracked open as a parent to those things.  I had only my daughter while filming this,  so my second child was conceived during Delivery Man.  And so, you have your kid and you start thinking about a family.  And inevitably you start thinking about well, what should I do for their lives.  You start seeking information about how do I parent, you know, temporary words versus permanent words.  And it just becomes a journey of figuring out what’s the best way to give them skill-sets to be successful and what is the best stuff you can do as a parent.  So, you start down that journey so strongly.  And I think for me, fortunately, I come from a very close family, and I waited till I was older and I really wanted to be a parent when I became a parent.  So, I’m very invested in it.  I think it was very  easy to draw on those kind of emotions that were running in me anyway.  I think it was very much at the surface.

image

If you are seeing Delivery Man to see they typical Vince Vaughn comedy, you are not going to find that in this movie.  This is a family film, and with that, we wanted to know – if he is actively trying to make more family- friendly movies, something that his family could see in the future?

I don’t know if I would say I’m actively doing it.  I think this was nice, ’cause it was kind of a return to doing more grounded performances, which I used to do and not so broad.  So, that was exciting. And I do think the time in my life kind of particularly made me excited about investigating parenthood and also partnership I think is important, too.  You know, I think the best thing you can do as a father for your kid is to love the mom in that it shows him what a good relationship should be.  There’s so much teaching that’s not really downloading information that’s just by example.  It gives ‘em harmony in the house.  And so, it’s interesting for, for Cobie’s (Smulders) character and my character to kind of figure out, how they see each other, what are the expectations, ’cause I find relationships to really be about communicating and expectations, you know.  What, what do you expect the other person to do and how do you communicate so that you’re both understanding what those expectations are, ’cause once you start breaking expectations and if you’re not understanding what the other person wants, then trust can, can get broken.

So, I think it’s interesting that, you know, my character kind of comes to a place of accepting who he is.  I can’t be someone I’m not, you know, but I love this kid and I love you, so let’s start from that place.  But how do we kind of figure out, how we’re gonna do this, and that’s the thing with parenting, I think, is (about connecting).  Yeah, you have to figure out how do you each allow each other to follow what they wanna do.  And you’re gonna have to be good at communicating and doing things.

So, I think that’s part of the journey as a parent is, at least my experience is, who am I within this and how do I communicate with the other person?  What’s the win-win?  How do me and my wife both get what we want.  And, you know, it’s just learning better skills at something that you’ve never done.

So….yes, 533 kids is a lot, but would Vince like to have more than 2?

VV: Yeah, I’m open to more kids.  My wife has informed me that while someone is breastfeeding that’s not a conversation that we should have.  See, I was away filming and we were skyping. And, we don’t have any help.  It’s just me and her and we feel fortunate that we’re able to be in that situation, so but a lot falls on her when she’s breastfeeding.  And so I was away, and I said this is great it’s great to have each other and maybe we’ll have one more. She said you cannot bring that up as I am breast feeding.  On some level I feel like I started older in life, and so when you do start to do the math in your head, let’s say, like for me, it was a big deal when I finally were able to beat my parents in something, but these kids will be killing me pretty quick here, because I’m older than my dad was when he started, but, I’m open to having more — I don’t know if you plan it.  We’ll kinda see what happens, but,I’m really thankful for the two kids that I have, and if another kid comes along, I would be thrilled for sure.

Delivery Man Red Carpet Premiere at The El Capitan #DeliveryManEvent

November 4, 2013 by Momstart 1 Comment

Wow, what a fun amazing time we all had on the red carpet of The movie Delivery Man premiere at The El Capitan. It was amazing timing that the premiere date changed and I was able to attend. I wanted to share the fun I had by sharing all of the photos I took and a few I found from Disney.

I took the photo of the El Capitan, it’s not the best because us girls were running a little late and I didn’t have time to frame up the shot. You know it takes 24 girls and one dad a while to get ready.
