These charming books celebrate the continued popularity of cupcakes, the spirit of handcrafted foods, with wonderful, easy to make cupcakes and fondant toppers! I promise you, you will not believe what good of a baker and cupcake decorator you are by using these easy to follow receipts and decorating steps. Both books feature 12 receipts and 12 different designs, each completely unique by using simple homemade fondant.
Cupcake Whimsy offers and Introduction, Fondant Fundamentals, and How to fill a cupcake section. Also the 12 cupcake and frosting receipts can be easily mixed and matched along with the hidden fillings you can surprise your guests with. Here is what I made: Chocolate Brownie Cupcake with Raspberry Jam filling that I frosted with the most perfect lemon butter cream and topped it with pink fondant ballet slippers for my daughter’s recital treats.
These cupcakes were amazing … and perfect looking too – needless to say. The butter cream frosting got done in a snap and I just put a few drops of lemon oil to give it that special tang. The fondant was as easy as pie: it literally took as much time to make it as for me to tell you about it. Many bakers shy away from fondant because it looks too complicated or hard to decorate with. I have just recently discovered the joys of this sweet sugary moldable goodness and I have been covering cakes with it like a pro. The fondant receipt included in these books is made from 3 simple ingredients. I personally found the fondant to be a bit hard to work with. Even though I followed the receipt (which I so rarely do), it was just a bit sticky and would not hold the shape after I formed the figure (possibly more powdered sugar would help with this problem). Making cupcakes toppers with these two books is super easy and require no special skills or tools. Each step has a picture and simple instructions so even if you have never worked with fondant, you will find it easy to master.
Cupcake Whimsy features cute animal figures like Miss Molly Mouse, Donald Trunk the elephant, or Howl Owl. It’s a Cupcake Party contains fondant decorations that are seasonal such as Lucky Charm, Sun Surf and Sand, Monster Mash or Le Snowman. The frostings are easy, made with simple ingredients. One thing I really like about this book is that the frosting is just lightly covering the top of the cupcakes instead of piled an inch high. By having special fillings in these cupcakes such as pudding or jam, helps to cut back on the amount of frosting but still get amazingly flavorful and truly unique treats. Cupcake Whimsy and It’s a cupcake party! can be ordered from Sellers Publishing or you can find them on Amazon.com, both retailing at $9.95. You can find a receipt and decorating instructions for each book: Devil’s Food Cupcake with Monster Mash design, and Funky Monkey.
