From Chore Charts to Calendars Tolalu Personalized Gifts

April 28, 2014 by Momstart 6 Comments

This is a sponsored post with Childsplay PR and Tolalu my opinions and experiences are my own.

I have been going crazy lately with all the chores in the house. The dishes never end and once I make headway on the laundry it just piles up again. A friend of mine reminded me that the kids need to be helping me out. I have them do the dishes every now and then and they have to help with laundry but we don’t have a chore routine. I’ve been thinking about a chore chart for a while now but I never made one. Then I heard about Tolalu.

Tolalu has beautifully designed, high quality customized products for children and parents. Tolalu produces a range of affordable, tailor made products, including:

· Calendars
· Placemats
· Growth charts
· Stickers
· Storybooks
· Items for Mom and more

The chore charts have their names printed on the top and then I can write in their individual chores. It’s worked great so far, and we use it more as a reminder list than just a chore list because Piano practice is not a chore.

I am also a big fan of making gifts but honestly I don’t have the time to make them. But with Tolalu it’s actually very easy to make personalized gifts in no time at all. The personalized gifts from Tolalu.com that I created turned out amazing. I made two calendars to give to family members.

It was really easy to make the calendar. All I had to do was select the calendar style and then I added photos to the different pages. Upload was quick and easy and it printed out nicely.

I can’t wait to give out these calendars and hear how the family likes them. I love them so much if I had an office I wouldn’t give them away. I would keep one and give the other one to my husband.

It was really funny because when they came in Miles even wanted to keep one of them in his room. We have a copuon code to share with you. This is a 20% discount code for your guys: Momst1.

How To Use My Job Chart

April 29, 2011 by Momstart 1 Comment

My Job Chart is a free charting system you can use with children and their chores, basically, it’s a chore chart. It’s completely customizable for you to add what makes sense to your family and allows your children to fill out information themselves. When they complete the job you assigned they can go on and say the completed it, getting your kids on-line and teaching them about responsibility. When your children’s chores are completed you will receive an e-mail or text if you set it up that way about the points they earned. You can then reply to the message by posting on your child’s “post-it note” to positively reinforce good behavior and work ethic. The My Job Chart fully integrated message board system allows you to communication between your family members.

We’ve been working on teaching Zoe and Miles about money with a very simple method, do a chore receive a quarter. As they get older though, we’re going to have to add in saving, giving, and then saving to spend. I was given the opportunity to check out My Job Chart and it covers all of the basics (save, give and spend) when it comes to teaching kids about money.

How to Use My Job Chart:

Sign up it’s free

image

After signing up, you have the option to be notified when your child does anything with My Job Chart. I left all the settings to default. I added Zoe, whenever you add someone, you have the option of adding their photo. At this time I chose not to add a photo.

image

Now that I added a family member all of the options, assign jobs, jobs summary, manage rewards, and message board are all now available to me to use.

image

There are plenty of age appropriate chores to choose from, like make the bed, clean your room, do the dishes. With each chore you choose, you also get to choose if it needs to be done AM, PM or both and what day of the week. As I was choosing which jobs for Zoe to do, I did find myself wishing that after a job was chosen that it would disappear from the menu. I found it confusing as to which jobs I had already picked for her to do. But it didn’t add a chore more than once even though I purposely tried to, and if you want to review the list you have chosen it’s quite easy to do that.

image

After you have your family all set up with the jobs you want them to do each week, you get to manage the rewards. Zoe and Miles currently get 1 quarter per chore they do. They help out here and there and the immediate satisfaction of a quarter is a lot to them. While I was looking at the rewards system, I realized that I could pick anything that Amazon sells. So I know what Zoe is saving up for, it’s a Tangled doll, so that is what I assigned as her reward.

image

This prize worth 2100 points would be worth 400 quarters to Zoe. If we switched to the My Job Chart of points, we would have to assign her 5.25 points per job. The default point value is 10 points, so it’s up to you as a parent to decide how much a chore should be worth. That brings the question, for bigger jobs would you give more points or is a chore a chore?

How Your Child Uses My Job Chart:

image

Zoe would have to log in I set up a password for her when I created her account.

After I selected that she finished all of her chores, there was a very loud applause. That is the kind of praise that my kids LOVE! I was really impressed with that feature.

image

Then I received an e-mail saying she accomplished her tasks. The next step for the children shows that my kids aren’t in the right age group yet, but they will be soon enough. I think at age 5 or 6 you can start showing them the more complicated aspect of how much should I save, share, or spend. Spending and sharing, not only is My Job Chart integrated with Amazon for spending, they are integrated with giving to many different charities. You can teach your children to give within My Job Chart.

image

For now, I placed all of the points into her spending account. When she accumulates enough points she’ll be able to purchase her Tangled doll.

If for some reason what I said doesn’t make any sense My Job Chart has plenty of tutorials to walk you through the process of getting things set up. They also have a video you can watch, How My Job Chart Works:
