Interview With The Winter Soldier: Sebastian Stan

April 9, 2014 by Momstart 2 Comments

In LA a few weeks ago, I interviewed Sebastian Stan with all the other bloggers for the movie Captain America The Winter Soldier. Sebastian Stan isn’t new to the Marvel Universe, you may recognize him from the first Captain America, he’s Bucky the Cap’s best friend. WOW, now he’s the Winter Soldier, do you think that will put a kink in the relationship?

Here’s the interview with Sebastian Stan The Winter Soldier!

Sebastian Stan The Winter Soldier

Q: What was your reaction when you found out that you were coming back as The Winter Soldier?

SEBASTIAN: More like…[LAUGHTER] I was just saying I always played that moment in my head over and over again and uh, that when I was gonna get that phone call no matter where I was at the time I was probably thinking I was gonna be somewhere in New York you know on a crowded street. Regardless, I was gonna scream and I was just gonna have this big reaction. It’s actually the opposite. I just sort of was quiet and still and was trying to replay the conversation in my head and was just really excited. I mean for me it’d really been two years of sort of not knowing what was gonna happen next.image

Q: So was it difficult to change form from Bucky into the winter soldier?

SEBASTIAN: Well, yes and no. I would say no in the sense that everything is so spelled out for me in the comic books that I sort of feel like I have that to follow as a guide. Yes in that certain things from comic books often are not so easily translated to the screen, and so there were things visually that were new that we had to discover about the character. I mean in the comic books there was a lot of information but in terms of how the winter soldier moved, how he behaved, what his presence was like on screen, those were all things I had to sort of discover once I was in the outfit and we were actually shooting the movie. That was more difficult I suppose. At the end of the day the most difficult part was playing someone that’s very different while at the same time the same person.

Q: Talking about the outfit, the training for your part and then working with your metal arm in the movie, was that difficult at all?

image

SEBASTIAN:
Yes, the training is really hard for me I mean I was never really used to that type of training before. Some of the diet and the working out that was happening six months before we started shooting was really difficult at times. Then you’re learning to fight. It’s basically just like going to dance class. I mean the thing is you just have to have patience, and it’s really hard, you might get it quickly and you’re excited, you see the stunt guys are just, you know, phenomenal and you just want to jump in and do it but the whole thing has to be so planned out and detailed, and you can’t have a lot of room for errors because people can get hurt. So, just practicing that and repeating that everyday for about two to three months I’d say was hard, but the results were always very gratifying.

Q: How do you mentally prepare for a roll like this in terms of playing someone who doesn’t even know who they are?

SEBASTIAN: Yeah, exactly. Well, it’s funny the way things happen in life. Sometimes when you pay attention to certain things that happen in life [LAUGHS] I just don’t want to get too down here or anything but my stepdad was actually recently has been dealing with Alzheimer’s, and he’s been going through that for at least the last two years. And so it was interesting because while that sort of process was very painful as an observer, it was one of the things that I found to be very helpful for me to kind of observe as somebody going through Alzheimer’s. What their behavior is like and the way – because even though they don’t know certain things anymore, who they are per say, there is still that struggle within them to wanna try and kind of know things. They respond to certain uh things they see or sounds that they see, a song or something kind of triggers a memory, and so it’s a very weird internal battle. I watched him a lot for sort of some references. Some of the things of how I was gonna sort of translate that on the screen I didn’t really know until we were doing literally when we were on set. There is actually a lot of material out there to kinda work off of.

Q: Some of the action sequences that you were a part of, was there one piece that you were just like enjoyed doing?

image

SEBASTIAN: Well, any of the fighting stuff, once we had it down and we were in the costumes.. any of the stuff that was shot outside which was in Cleveland I mean was really exciting because there was no CGI green screen, I mean it was literally long sequences that all the car explosions, people sort of falling and being shot and then us jumping into that one on one combat—combat, that was all really fun because, again it was really all happening around you so it’s not often get that when you work on these big movies, you always have to deal with the green screen.

Q: What was your most memorable moment while filming?

SEBASTIAN: Probably just any of the stuff that I had with Robert Redford was pretty memorable. That’s where I really remember sort of…telling myself you know just like be here, be present, you know, take him in on and off set. On set it was like suddenly I was in a situation where the whole reason for me going to acting school and everything was sort of here I was with this man and he was being very generous as an actor with me even though he’s obviously who he is. Then off set sort of just wanting to kind of like see if there was anything I could pick his brain about in terms of like people he’s worked with or um, so that was pretty special.

Q: Since you’ve read a lot about Bucky, ‘cause you’ve followed the comics, you know that he actually becomes Captain America. Are you prepared to , if the future of the franchise goes in that direction, to become Captain America?

SEBASTIAN: Well listen I mean I’m just gonna treat it the way I’ve been treating it. Whatever I’ve done so far has gotten me here. So, I’m not gonna change very much of what I’m doing…we’ll see what happens.

Interview with The Falcon: Anthony Mackie Captain America The Winter Soldier #CaptainAmericaEvent

April 7, 2014 by Momstart 1 Comment

Interviewing movie stars is always a treat, but when you’re with a comedian it’s even better. Anthony Mackie has both the talent of being a serious actor but he also commands the room with laughter. He came into the room telling one of the dads that he was the ugliest mom he’s ever seen and then found a mom in the room and told her she had the best hair cut he’s ever seen. The way I tell it doesn’t express how funny it was, but I can tell you the way he said it was hilarious and that was just the beginning of all the fun!

imageAnthony Mackie has risen to the occasion when it comes to becoming a super hero in the Marvel Franchise. The Falcon History:

The Falcon, real name Samuel Wilson, is a fictional comic book superhero who appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Gene Colan, and introduced in Captain America #117 (Sept. 1969), the character is mainstream comics’ first African-American superhero. ….. The Falcon followed the company’s first African-American co-starring character, the non-superpowered World War II soldier Gabe Jones, and first regular supporting character, Joe Robertson of The Amazing Spider-Man. The Falcon debuted nearly three years before Luke Cage, Marvel’s first African-American series star, and almost six years before the African character Storm, the first black female, and also precedes Marvel’s British vampire hunter Blade, also created by Colan, by almost four years. The Falcon is also the first superhero of African descent not to have the word "black" as part of his superhero name, preceding the John Stewart Green Lantern by over two years.

Amazingly Anthony Mackie didn’t want anything to taint his performance so he just showed up on set not knowing anything about the Falcon. He wanted the Falcon to be his persona. What he found out about  being a super hero is that it’s hard work; and that any actor that flies on set is the hardest working actor in the industry. So check out this interview with Anthony Mackie for a few laughs and insight into his character in The Winter Soldier.

image

What was it like the first time you put the costume on?

Anthony Mackie: It was great. The first time I put that costume on, I couldn’t stop smiling. I was running around the room. It’s one of those moments where you just have to allow yourself to enjoy it.

My costume was 45 minutes to get in it. It was like five minutes to get out. But it was fun. I really took every moment to enjoy being a super hero. So yeah, it was, it was a good time.

image

Obvious question but how is it playing a superhero?

Anthony Mackie: When I first started acting I was like, there are two things I want to do. I want to be a superhero and I want to do a Western, preferably with Clint Eastwood. Then Morgan Freeman took my role in Unforgiven. [LAUGHS] Bastard!

When I got this call, I kind of put things in perspective. I feel like a lot of people are famous for different reasons. Some people are famous because they’re handsome. Some people are famous because they’re British. I’m very happy that I’m famous because I can act. And I feel like this is a job I got because I deserved it.

There must have been lots of guy talk on the set. What was it like to have Scarlett Johansson around?

Anthony Mackie: You know, Scarlett is just a regular chick. Like it’s weird, you expect her to be a diva or high maintenance or catty. Or just so — an actress. But she’s a regular chick and she’s really low maintenance and cool and fun to be around. She just goes with the flow. I guess that comes with being extremely talented. I feel like a lot of people compensate for not being talented with being bitchy. But she’s really talented. She’s a very really down to earth, fun, cool, just regular chick.

image

How do you feel about being the first African-American superhero?

Anthony Mackie: It’s funny you should ask that. [LAUGHS] It’s cool. When I was a kid, I really didn’t have a person I could look at, other than my dad, and be like, “Hey, I want to be that guy and fly through the window.” You couldn’t be like seven years old and say, “Who do you want to be for Halloween?” “Shaft!”

So [LAUGHS] you know, it’s really exciting. When I first got this role I just cried like a baby because I was like, “Wow, next Halloween, I’m gonna open the door and there’s gonna be a little kid dressed as the Falcon.” Ttat’s the thing that always gets me. I feel like everybody deserves that. I feel like there should be a Latino superhero. Scarlett does great representation for all the other girls, but there should be a Wonder Woman movie. I don’t care if they make 20 bucks, if there’s a movie you’re gonna lose money on, make it Wonder Woman. You know what I mean, ’cause little girls deserve that. There’s so many of these little people out here doing awful things for money in the world of being famous. And little girls see that. They should have the opposite spectrum of that to look up to.

You know, funny story. There’s this craft store called Michael’s. Look, my sister knits, and she goes to Michael’s. So my sister called me and she’s like, “Oh my god, I’m at Michael’s, picking up yarn. You have a poster at Michael’s.” I’m like, what? She’s like, “There’s a poster, there’s a Falcon poster at Michael’s. I’m like, “Holy s–t!” She’s like, “I’m gonna come and pick you up, and we’re gonna see your poster in this store.” So she picks me up and we go to Michael’s.

We go in, and I see the poster and I’m like, “Oh, this is….” She’s like, “I know, I know.” I said, “I’m gonna sign these posters.” I was like, “That would be amazing, you buy a poster and it’s like, actually signed by the Falcon.” Like, it would blow my mind. So I go to the front, I buy a Sharpie, I run back to the back of the store. And she’s like, “I’m gonna take a picture of you signing it.”

I’m in this store and I’m signing all the posters. The manager comes out, he’s like, “Hey, whatcha doing?” I was like, “Oh man, I’m signing these posters so when people buy ‘em, they’re signed.” He’s like, “Well, people are not gonna buy ‘em if they’re signed.”

And I was like, “No no no, it’s cool. I’m pretty sure there won’t be a problem.” And he goes, “Yeah, but it is gonna be a problem, you’re messin’ up my inventory.” And I’m like, “No, my man, trust me. I mean, I’m the Falcon, that’s me!” And he goes, “Yeah, right. You’re gonna buy those posters.” I said, “What?” He’s like, “You’re gonna buy all those posters or I’m gonna call the police.”

He rolls up all the posters and goes to the front of the store. And I had to buy like 60 Falcon posters that I signed in Michael’s. So that’s kinda how — I’m just enjoying it. Man, I mean, there’s so many bad things that happen to us as entertainers and actors, that I feel like, when something good happens, you should take full advantage of it.

Tell us which Michael’s it was!

Anthony Mackie: [LAUGHS] I’m doing a screening in New Orleans and the first invitation I sent out was to the manager of Michael’s. I’m like, my sister’s getting free yarn. And, and you’re giving me my money back. [LAUGHS]

image

You’ve worked with Hugh Jackman before, who’s played Wolverine in the movies. When you found out you got the role as The Falcon, did you call him up and ask for any pointers?

Anthony Mackie: No. I did not want to mess up my experience. I completely wanted to come into this naive, ignorant and like my virginal eyes not knowing anything. It’s funny because Sam [Jackson, Nick Fury] has done like 15 Marvel movies. And Chris [Evans, Captain America] and Scarlett [Johansson, Black Widow] have done like 6 each. And you know, Sebastian {Stan, Bucky/Winter Soldier] has done 3. So I was like, you know, don’t kill my vibe. Like I’m having a good time, we’re doing a Marvel movie, we get the best craft services.

We basically shut down the city of Cleveland. I was soakin’ it up. Chris and I have a very good relationship. And literally got to the point where we would show up on set and we were like seven-year-olds. I mean, we had that first day where it’s like, deal with 35-year-old men in costume. We’re losers. [LAUGHS] And then the next day, we started making fun of each other. Done it the next week, done the next month. And then it just turned into this thing, where it became infectious.

It’s fun when you go to work knowing you’re gonna make a quality product. Because as actors there’s so many people with daddy issues that mess up movies. It’s like, “Oh, I’m gonna edit it this way. Or, I didn’t have a girlfriend in high school so I’m gonna do this.” And it’s like, “Dude, just make a movie!”

I feel like working with Marvel is one of those studios where you go to work and you know everybody leaves their stuff at the door. And they just want to make a good project. So you know, once we got over our suits, we had a good time.

image

How was the whole Falcon costume experience?

Anthony Mackie: It was no fun. The hardest working actors in Hollywood are flying superheroes. I said it, I don’t care what Thor says with his hammer. I don’t care what Wolverine says. If you fly, it sucks.

I loved my costume, I loved everything about it. I love doing stunts. I have the best stuntman in the business. We’ve done like five movies together. And literally it’s like that Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny cartoon, where like the missile is coming and Bugs Bunny’s like paused and then puts Daffy in. And he just takes the brunt of every hit for me. And I love it. [LAUGHS] There’s nothing natural about flying to humans. There’s nothing we do that’s like flying. So my first day on set I walk in, I’m like, “What’s up, yo. Falcon in the building, what’s up?” Right.

And so I get up on like a 60 foot platform. And I’m like, all right, let’s do this. You know, brother in the building. And they said, “All right, stand on the edge of the platform, there’s a jet coming at you. We want you to stand up, turn around, shoot your guns and jump back backwards head first, into this mat.” From 60 feet in the air.

And I’m like, “Whoa!” The first day is usually like walking down a hallway, or eating or something. You know, just to break you in. Not jumping off the platform to your death.

So once we did that, in the scalding heat of the day, I kinda knew what I was in for. And it just got worse from there. It was really painful and exhausting. But Aaron Toney, my stuntman, literally, he fell out of a car at 40 miles an hour. He got messed up on this movie. So kudos to him. [LAUGHS]

image

What did you do to train and prepare for this film?

Anthony Mackie: Salmon, chickens, tuna fish, asparagus. And a cup of brown rice at noon. Every day. For three months. When I played high school football we used to do these things called two-a-days. Basically at six a.m. you wake up, get ready, go to the gym for an hour. And you do cardio, just like Jane Fonda shit. And then you come home, and you just rest and eat every three hours. Then at 7 p.m. you go to the gym, and literally lift whatever you can find. For about an hour and a half. And then you go home and go to sleep. And then you wake up and do it again.

I did that for three months. Fitness is a lifestyle, you have to eat a certain way. You have to do a certain thing, you have to live a certain way. So you know, me and my homeboy Jack Daniels stopped talking. You know, no more, pizza. Me and my girlfriend Haagen Dazs broke up. She’s French, it was crazy.

And then I show up and you know, Chris looks like a Greek god. And I’m feeling good about myself, I’m like Spandex ready, you know. And I show up and he’s like, Captain Tiny Ass. And I’m like, “Dude, how’d you get your ass that small?”

When I put my costume on, everybody was like, “Damn, we got to let out the air.” But I made it through it. [LAUGHS]

The Falcon goes back to the ‘60s. Which versions of the Falcon did you go back to for the character to draw on?

Anthony Mackie: I commend Marvel for putting the Falcon in this movie because the Falcon’s history is something very unique to the comic book world. Usually in comic books they’ll introduce a character, if it doesn’t hit they’ll just let him fall off into the sunset. But with the Falcon, Marvel made a unique choice to get him right. So he had about three or four different incarnations in the life of the comic book.

I tried to stay away from the source material because I felt what the writers gave me with this was the introduction to the Falcon. So I just took what I had in the script, and worked primarily on that. I felt like the military history he had, and the relationship he has with Steve in this movie, is much more important than who he was in the comic books. Because I felt like if that relationship was grounded in truth and it worked, the rest of the movie would work.

I really just focused on, what exactly are the side effects and repercussions of PTSD [Post-traumatic stress disorder]? How exactly do you overcome that? And when it’s overcome, is it like drugs, is it a work in progress everyday? Or is it like something, once you’re over it you’re over it and I’m good. Or is it person to person stuff like that?

I just asked a bunch of different questions along those lines. A lot of my research came from soldiers I’ve met during Hurt Locker and from doing charitable work with the Navy and stuff. So I just emailed a bunch of guys and got a lot of stuff online, a lot of videos. Lot of depositions with soldiers coming back and just talking about their experiences and where they are now. I just used that stuff and tried to ground him in the history that was him, as opposed to the history that was the comic book.

How Women Kick Butt in Captain America The Winter Soldier

April 4, 2014 by Momstart 2 Comments

Captain America is totally your action packed movie full of explosions and fights between the good guys and the bad guys. As I was watching it I was on the edge of my seat and if for a second I thought I was going to be able to calm down and just relax for a minute something would come out of nowhere and whack me across the head. And I was on the edge of the seat again. But what impressed me most, was that it wasn’t only the men that got to kick major but, but also the women. Black Widow and Agent Maria Hill has some impressive screen time too and I loved it.

image

I loved the movie and was impressed at how different it was from all of the other “Avenger” movies. In Captain America the story was about the Cap and how he came to be. Then in the Avengers it was about saving the world as a team. And each one is different, have you noticed? This one is your typical action movie that surprisingly reaches women too. Like I said the women kick butt and bring more depth to the characters. Maria Hill seems to be really trusted by Director Fury and Natasha Romanoff has suddenly become Steve Rogers little sister. They have this amazing banter back and fourth with each other that made me wish they would jump into a relationship.

image

Now I’ve given you my opinion of the movie without even telling you what the main story is. Shield has a plan to keep America, no strike that the world safe and it involves taking away our freedom. Steve Rogers doesn’t like the idea at all and challenges Fury. And then a wrench is thrown into Fury’s plan and he has to go on the run. It’s while he is trying to get away that we meet The Winter Soldier and his story is really amazing and awful at the same time. The Winter Soldier is Bucky, Steve’s oldest and dearest friend.

image

Don’t let your husband go see The Winter Soldier without you. If what I have already told you about the movie wasn’t enough then I need to tell you that the dreamy Robert Redford is in the movie with a fantastic role.

Interview with Scarlett Johansson The Black Widow in Captain America The Winter Soldier #CaptainAmericaEvent

April 3, 2014 by Momstart 2 Comments

New mommy to be is very secretive when it comes to her life but when it comes to the life of Black Widow she was all action and excitement. Black Widow is one of the most used characters in the Marvel franchise right now. At first she had such a small part I didn’t even notice her but she’s been around and as time went on her popularity has grown exponentially. I found Scarlett to be so modest and gorgeous. She is just as stunning in person as she is on screen and I find her to be so talented. Scarlett Johansson has a fan base for not only her beauty but the amazing ability she has to act and transform into any character she plays including Black Widow. Check out her versatility in this interview with Scarlet Johansson for her part in the next installment of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Scarlett Johansson

Q: Tell us about the stunts you did.

SCARLETT: Well first of all, my stunt girlfriend… [LAUGHTER] is this wonderful, wonderful stunt woman by the name of Heidi Moneymaker – that’s her real name. Yeah, she’s awesome. This is our third – you know, she’s played the widow every time along with me. So we have really worked together from the beginning to develop this fighting style that you see. We want to keep the consistency of it. It’s such a fun, playful kind of fighting style.

image

It’s badass but it’s kind of sexy. It’s a little bit like flirtatious. It’s basically giving a kind of a little nod to her past gymnastics. Of course the Muay Thai and whatever else she would have learned with her kind of global experience.

Q: Tell us about the Black Widow costume.

SCARLETT: The Widow costume is I have to say, it’s probably the most comfortable of the superhero suits because it doesn’t require a built-in air conditioning unit, like Hemsworth does. I don’t have a lot of under armor or any of that kind of huge leather cape, headdress, whatever, all that stuff. It’s pretty straight forward. It’s kind of like a wet suit actually. I’m always amazed when it goes on and zips up. I’m like, wow. It’s on.

image

It’s totally empowering because, you know, once you get the belt and the gloves and the bracelets and your guns and the boots and it looks great. It’s badass and I think it makes all of- you know, when I’m, have my legs wrapped around some giant stunt guy’s head or whatever, and feeling totally ridiculous hanging on for dear life, it sells it.

Q: In this film she’s like cupid? Why the transition?

SCARLETT: Um, that’s interesting. Well first of all when the character is talking to Loki, she’s kind of putting up this front, obviously. She’s not, as we come to realize, being completely honest with him. It’s partly for her widow face that she wears. In this film we really get to see a lot more of Natasha. I like to think that Natasha has a romantic side.

image

She’s been really damaged. I think that she very early on in the past probably learned to not care too much about people because they could be easily taken away from her and used against her. She probably didn’t want to hurt the people that she loved the most. So she never needs them or never invested too much in them knowing that they- it would probably put them in danger. I think that she hopes that for someone like Cap- you know particularly Steve.

I think she sees someone could really have a sort of life enriched by sharing it with somebody. That she sees someone that kind of yearns for that, but, you know, is also scarred by the series of events that have changed his life. Maybe she’s kind of sees in Steve a little bit of herself and wants something more for him.

image

Q: Do you enjoy having your character mature?

SCARLETT: Yeah, I mean it’s been, it’s been interesting because when I went in to do Avengers after having done Iron Man 2 which you kind of don’t know a lot about the character, right, you sort of see her in widow mode. I met with Joss and we started talking and he did a bunch of research. Now at this point it was like, all right, we’re invested in this character. I didn’t know if the character would work, or the audience would like her. Like my version of her.

Once it became clear they did and I got the opportunity to explore more of her back story in Avengers, you know, it really started to kind of carve out what my kind of version of Natasha could be. I mean obviously it’s one of the oldest female superheroes. Probably the oldest one, and she’s got this vast library of source material and has had many incarnations and many different people have their hand in her stories.

She’s made all kinds of connections and love interests and failures, and she’s been good and bad in everything. So we wanted to make sure that the story felt contemporary, obviously. I wouldn’t have a cold war kind of back story, did it make sense, and we had to kind of tailor it to my AGENT, like what my experience would be. It’s been great to be able to reveal little pieces of that. I think it’s kind of like these little Easter eggs for the fans.

I’ll wink at the audience when you kind of learn a little bit about her KGB past, or whatever kind of task she’s been set on. You kind of discover her as, as I discover her as well. It’s fun to do that

image

Q: When are we gonna see the Black Widow movie?

SCARLETT: You know, the thing about working with Marvel that I think, I appreciate certainly and I think fans appreciate is what a kind of big part and how loud the audience voice is.

I think because Marvel, and particularly Kevin Feige, is such a fan of the source material himself and understands that the fans are kind of what drive this train. If people want that, want to see that, I’m sure that we can get something together. This character I love playing. She’s got such great source material I think it would be wonderful to have the challenge of doing a female superhero movie where the protagonist didn’t kind of rest on her feminine wiles and, you know, use every opportunity to strike a sexy pose in order to get the job done.

She uses her brain, wit and feminine wiles to get the job done. She’s a very playful character and also a character that has a really compelling story. She has a kind of a gray moral code. She’s not black and white. I think it could be really a fun opportunity to have. So, we’ll see. If you request it, they will come.

Marvel has created an amazing story out of characters that just weren’t that well known except to extreme comic fans and I’m hooked. I want to get my hands on every piece of Marvel information, characters, and shows that I can. When Disney gave me another opportunity to interview Kevin Feige I was super excited. Of course it’s hard to get spoilers out of anyone in the Marvel Franchise but we take the bits and pieces we can get. Here is the blogger interview with Kevin Feige.

Kevin Feige

Q: Can you tell us what comes next?

Kevin: I can tell you what actively we’re actually on. Now we’re spending a lot of time now in the cutting room on “Guardians of the Galaxy” which comes out August 1st. We just released the Teaser for it recently In about 2 weeks, we start filming “Avengers Age of Ultron”. So that’s coming up very fast and that will be the next Movie up in May of 2015. Then in about 10 weeks, we start filming “Ant-Man” with Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd and that comes out in July of 2015.

We haven’t announced what comes after that in 2016/2017 but we’re actively working on any number of things and are beginning to hone in on sort of exactly what the Movies will be in ’16 and ’17 but it’s slightly too early to talk about.

image

Q: What problems did you have on the Big Screen vs. the Comics?

Kevin: Those are two of the reasons to do it. It has never been done before which is, you don’t get a chance very often to do something in this business that’s never been done before, 100 years of Cinema. Now somebody will point out somewhere they’re done it before but your point is taken. That is what the Comics have been It was a shared Universe from its inception essentially in the Comics. It was sort of Character by Characters, Studio by Studio, that was impossible but when we became our own Studio and had, got the financing to do that, it was the first idea was make a great Ironman movie, um, and the second idea was wait a minute, we can begin to tie these together.

The biggest challenge is making that continuity and that interconnectivity broaden the Universe, broaden the Audience as opposed to make it feel like a Club. Making it fold in on itself and say Oh you need to know everything that’s going to see any of these Movies. We work very hard to make each of the Movies feel like a stand-alone Movie, but at the same time connect to everything else. That’s been our sort of our Mission Statement and that’s what we try to stick to.

image

Q: Is it intentional that you always incorporate older Superheroes?

Kevin: I think that’s indicative of our development process. We just believe that’s the best way to bring the Villains into it. It’s more personal in this Movie than in any other Movie because of who the Winter Soldier is but, you know, Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker’s Father, right? I mean, that’s — that’s Spoiler, Shoot, Sorry. That is often times from the Comics, from Mythology. Lunky’s been, you know, a Photo Source for thousands of years. That is just a wonderful way to link a Hero to Villain. And that’s what we’ve done.

Q: Talk about the controversy around Winter Soldier.

Kevin: Comic Fans always knew sort of two things in about peak Characters die and come back to life in Comics like in Soap Operas, like in any sort of Fiction all the time. There are two Characters in the Marvel Universe that are never gonna come back to life, Uncle Ben and Bucky Barnes. About 10 years ago or 12 years ago, a Comic Book Writer, Ed Brubaker went to Publishing. I didn’t have anything to do with it, and said, I have an idea to bring Bucky Barnes back. I’m sure they’re like what are you talking about? You can’t do that. And they pitched the idea and it was great. It was the Winter Soldier idea and it was done so well and you’re right, I think Fans went No, you can’t– Oh that’s great, we love that. We just took the successful blueprint that they had already done and brought it into this Movie.

image

Q: Talk about the difference in the tone.

Kevin: Well it was 2 things. I mean one was we always want our Movies to feel differently. We have 2 Movies a year coming out. If they start to feel redundant, they start to feel like Cookie Cutter, off the same Assembly line, people are gonna lose interest and we will lose interest. I’m not interested in making the same Movie over and over again. So it’s very important to us that we mix them up and that they feel very unique, each of the Films. We had a wonderful opportunity where you have a Character whose origins were in the 1940s. At the end of that Movie, we reveal that he’s now alive in the present day. He’s got a brief adventure in the Avengers Film but doesn’t have a lot of time to think about his current stay where he’s living, he’s got to stop this horrible event from happening.

So now this was the Movie where we got to say OK, here’s Steve in the modern day, let’s do something totally unique and that led us to the notion of doing the Marvel Superhero version of a ’70s Action Movie, a ’70s Political Thriller. He doesn’t fly, and he doesn’t go visit other Planets so that gave us an opportunity to do the kind of Action that we haven’t necessarily done before in our Movies which is a ground base and visceral, you know, car chases and hand to hand combat. What Steve’s Super power is other than sort of his strong moral foundation is he’s a Super Soldier. So you know, we always say take the best Olympian in each Field, add 10%, 20%, and that’s what Steve Rogers can do.

We wanted to showcase him in this Movie and we wanted to put him up against somebody that is equal to that, which is what the Winter Soldier was in a bad guy. So it really, I’m glad people are responding to how unique the tone of this Movie and how different, not just from the first Captain America Film but from any of our Movies that it has.

My Adventure in The Black Widow Chevrolet Corvette Stingray #CaptainAmericaEvent

March 29, 2014 by Momstart 2 Comments

A few months ago I attended the Chicago Auto show and saw the Black Widow Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and feel in love, now this is the car of adventure. My adventure started first by seeing the car debuted by Chevrolet with a preview for the movie Captain America The Winter Solider. It was surreal and over the top which is how all thing Marvel should be handled.

Captain America The Winter Soldier explodes into theaters this Friday April 4th.

The next day at the Chicago Auto Show I actually got to step into the car and play with it. IMG_0748

It’s a hot car right? It’s so trendy I couldn’t even figure out how to open it at first. The handle is not what you expect for a car. It’s hidden almost. And it’s the same from inside the car. Now, after I exited the car someone let a baby drive. Now, I’m not going to name names, but yeah, the baby got in and tried to run me over.

I think she thought I had her next meal.

Anywho, we had lots of fun playing with the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, next time I hope I actually get to drive it.

March 5, 2014 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Cliché yes, just a bit, I’m LA Bound and Muppets, Captain America Winter Soldier and Bears OH MY! We’re doing it all, plus a large day of watching ABC Series is on my agenda and I can’t wait to share all the details as they happen. Here is a sneak peak of my schedule.

First: The Hashtags that need to be on your radar:

#MuppetsMostWantedEvent

#CaptainAmericaEvent

#ABCTVEvent

We will be watching Muppets Most Wanted so we’re prepared for our interviews with Kermit and Miss Piggy and the director. I’m really excited to be talking to Miss Piggy and Kermit again. I want to know how things have changed since making the movie. I will also experience the OPI Nail Polish that was made just for the movie. DCM10_Muppets_A_Display

Then I’ll be watching Tinker Bell: The Pirate Fairy and I’ll interview the director and producer. Tinker Bell is always a family favorite.

clip_image001[8]

Captain America is at the top of my must see list so I’m so glad we’re making time to watch it. clip_image001[6]

Now for Bears, we’re going to have to visit the zoo so we can be fully immersed in the Land of Bears. This year the Disney Nature film is Bears.

clip_image001[4]

Then I’m spending a day and a half learning all about ABC series that we love to watch. Shows like GREY’S ANATOMY and GENERAL HOSPITAL.

So let me know if there are any questions you have about any of these movies or TV shows from ABC and I’m happy to pass on the question. My husband has already given me one really good one.
