Better Homes and Gardens and Walmart – Photo Contest for Charity – Get Cozy

November 28, 2012 by Momstart 1 Comment

Enjoying These Snuggly Moments While They’re Still Here with Better Homes and Gardens and Walmart – Photo Contest for Charity

By: Ashley

This time of year, one of my favorite things to do is snuggle up on a cold night and watch Christmas movies. You can get nice and cozy under a good soft blanket and just relax. I try not to let Atticus watch too much TV, but once or twice a week, I’ve been letting him watch a Christmas movie before bed. I think it’s just as much of a treat for me as it is for him! I know these nights of cuddling and snuggling with my little guy won’t last forever, so I’m going to enjoy them while they’re here!

clip_image002

My love of snuggling was really what got me interested in the Get Cozy and Give Back program that Better Homes and Gardens blankets at Wal-Mart is doing. After liking the BHG Live Better Facebook page, I saw some of the cozy cuddling pictures that other BHG fans are entering into the contest. What kind of picture do you need to enter? Any picture of you snuggling… with your kitty, your dog, your baby… as long as your cozy. Fill out the entry form and upload your photo BEFORE 12/18/2012 and share away.

clip_image004Every photo entered helps make a charitable contribution to Children’s Miracle Network ($500 for every 250 photos submitted, max of $2k). On top of that, each week, Better Homes and Gardens chooses 1 fan to be featured on BHG Live Better Facebook page – that fan gets 15 blankets donated to their local children’s hospital on their behalf!

I’m really excited about this photo contest, and I hope you are too. So, what do you need to do to enter?

1. ‘Like’ BHG Live Better Facebook page

2. Fill out entry form & upload your photo between 11/13 & 12/18

3. Each photo submission helps make charitable contribution to Children’s Miracle Network ($500 for every 250 photos submitted, max of $2k)

4. Share your photo submission to friends & family via FB, Twitter & email

5. You can go back to FB app and search photos or scroll through to vote for favorites

6. Each week BHG chooses 1 fan to be featured on BHG Live Better Facebook page and have blankets donated to their local children’s hospital.

So there you have it. Now it’s time to go get cozy!

Better Homes and Gardens: Junior Cookbook Review

October 9, 2012 by Momstart 12 Comments

By Orshi:

When I came to the United States for the first time, pretty much every home made meal I tasted was from the famous Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook. Its special red and white cover still smiles at me from my cookbook shelf as it has truly been all over the place, following me through my travels. I am tempted to by a new addition but my old one has such sentimental value that I can’t possibly part with it. So I was very happy when we could addclip_image002 a new release to our collection and I hope this will create fond memories in my daughter and sons of our times spent together in the kitchen.

The Junior edition is exactly what is sounds like: simple and tasty dishes that children can make with only a little help. The fact that my daughter knows that this book is specially made for children makes it very appealing to her. She carried it around for about a week after receiving it and she talked about it many people, in fact she was generous to lend it to one of our neighbors. She is using it not only as a source of complete receipts but also as inspiration for new ones …. I actually could not believe that she was improvising by using basic dishes to adopt them to the ingredients we had at home. Proud momma moment – she is my child after all (can’t just follow receipts).

The book is beautifully illustrated with actual photographs of dishes surrounded by cartoons. The organization is outstanding – one of the things I am really picky about when buying cookbooks. As a starter, it teaches young cooks some simple kitchen rules, how to measure ingredients properly, and familiarize them with kitchen tools, safety, how to follow receipts, read labels and make wise and nutritious choices. Contents are grouped under Power-Up Breakfasts, A+ Lunches, All-Star Suppers, Snack Adventures, Magical Desserts, and Party Time.

My daughters favorite receipt is the Mini Elf Cookies … seriously she makes better cookies than I do. I can make pies, breads, pastries, decorate cakes and you name it, but I can’t make a good cookie. Well, I don’t have to anymore because I have a young baker to do it for me.

This book would make an amazing gift to budding kitchen enthusiasts. I found that involving my children in meal planning helps them become better eaters and better partners in the kitchen and some of my fondest bonding moments with my daughter were created over a meal or some baked good that we created together. As a parent I feel responsible to teach my children to be self sufficient and well rounded adults and cooking is by far one of the main elements in that.

The book is available at Barnes and Noble ($17) as well as at Walmart and other online sites.

The Bathroom Reveal – A Better Homes and Gardens Makeover

September 13, 2011 by Momstart 19 Comments

I had so much fun decorating the bathroom. Choosing all Better Homes and Gardens products was harder than I thought it would be because the products are priced so low. I had a terrible time picking out enough to spend the amount I was allotted because every time I added something I still had more to spend.

Well, I finally picked out everything and took the pictures this morning. Remember the Before?

image

Now here is the After:

IMG_4599IMG_4597IMG_4596IMG_4593IMG_4607IMG_4604

IMG_4602IMG_4601IMG_4609

I took your advice:

Mrs. Cox Said,

If you use your bathroom to unwind and relax, start incorporating more spa/zen like colors and textures. If it’s purely for getting ready – then add more functional pieces; a shelf over your toilet for more space, update the fixtures and linens, maybe add a little artwork to a wall.

So I added some artwork where the toilet is, above my sink, and two of the the Better Homes and Gardens three lengthwise mirrors above the towel rack. I also added the Better Homes and Gardens red curtain above my bathtub and a lengthwise bath mat for when I get out of the tub.

Robyn Wright of RobynsOnlineWorld.com Said,

I love the wall color you have. You need something in your shower to hold all your shampoo bottles and stuff

So I added the Better Homes and Gardens shower organizer. I love how it has four adjustable shelves. We kept the color and I added a few Better Homes and Gardens bath towels, and on the bath tub I also changed out my candles and added the Better Homes and Gardens Black candle holders.

I love the color red so I kept that color and just got more of it. I organized the toilet room with a black Better Homes and Gardens shelf that my husband put together with the kids. It’s really nice to have a newly decorated bathroom and to actually have somewhere to put everything. New houses just don’t come with very much storage space. I might one day have to build my own shelves above the black shelf because there is quite a bit of unused space there.

Thank you Better Homes and Gardens for selecting us to participate in this fun and very well priced bathroom face lift. You can visit the Better Homes & Gardens Live Better Facebook Page to see photos from other bloggers showing off their before & after bathroom makeovers on a budget. You can even submit a photo of your own bathroom to enter to win a $200 Better Homes & Gardens Bathroom Makeover on a Budget.

We were provided with all of the supplies needed.

Better Homes & Garden Bathroom Makeover…I Need Design Help

September 1, 2011 by Momstart 23 Comments

My bathroom has been boring and plain since the day I moved in. How long ago was that, we moved into this house almost two years ago and I still haven’t really decorated any of the house very much at all. In my bathroom the only decorating I’ve done was a few candles here and there. Take a look for yourself and let me know if you too think I should have a Bathroom Makeover????

IMG_3560IMG_3552IMG_3553IMG_3554IMG_3564IMG_3556IMG_3557IMG_3559IMG_3561

So what do you think? Boring?

What should I do, how should I liven it up? I just don’t know what to do. Should I use more color in the towels, how should I organize everything? Better Homes & Gardens has quite a few cute décor items to choose from.

I also put together this video just to make sure you got the full 360 degree look at how plain my bathroom is and how terrible my home design skills are.

We will receive products from Better Homes & Gardens to update our boring bathroom.

Better Homes and Gardens Bakeware Set Giveaway

August 13, 2011 by Momstart 1,024 Comments

I won The Better Homes and Gardens State Cookie Contest! Thank you all for so many votes. If it wasn’t for all of you voting for me everyday I wouldn’t have won. I really appreciate it and can’t wait to get my new bake ware set, and did you know that as the winner, I get to give a set away here on MomStart too! So listening to my annoying requests everyday on Facebook and Twitter paid off.

This is the cookie sheet and cookie that helped me win this competition.

 Chocolate Filled Rain Drop Cookies

I didn’t actually use the pan until after I baked the cookies, since the contest required me to use the pan in the picture I wanted a spanky clean new pan for the photo. Since then, I have used the pan twice and honestly, it looks better than I thought it would. It still looks new. My husband and I seem to be really hard on cookie sheets, or at least I thought we were. Turns out, after talking to my neighbors a really good cookie sheet is hard to come by. Some of my neighbors are using foil over their pan now.

If that’s you, this is the contest for you:

image

This bakeware set is dishwasher safe and nonstick. But it does say for longer use do not put in the dishwasher. Ah huh, that’s my problem with cookies sheets. We ALWAYS put them in the dishwasher. I would love to see how the Better Home and Gardens Bake Wear holds up over the years.

This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to the winner, Heather H.

All rules can be found under giveaway rules. We received free samples.

Which Photo Is the Best Picnic Photo?

April 2, 2011 by Momstart 17 Comments

I’m going to enter another photo contest on Facebook and I’m not sure which photo to pick. I wasn’t given any rules other than to use the supplies that were sent to me on behalf of Walmart and Better Homes and Gardens. So with kids or without? With Food or without?

I also have to let you know that it’s been raining cats and dogs for two weeks so we had to have our picnic indoors.
