Here’s To New Nails and Hair: Nature’s Bounty Optimal Solutions Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies

May 28, 2014 by Momstart 5 Comments

I never would have believed the different that the Nature’s Bounty Optimal Solutions Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies made for me this last month. I took the 30 day challenge to better hair skin and nails and for some reason, I had it in my mind that it would only help my hair. SO I only took a pre-photo of my hair. But I can show you how much my nails grew in just 1 week and the fact that they haven’t cracked, peeled or split tells me that the Nature’s Bounty Optimal Solutions Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies is actually making a difference.

See how my nails have grown in just one week?

one week of nail growth

Normally the nail polish would have been ripped off by me because my nails are so weak and brittle that I can’t stand it. But if you look closely at the photo on the right you can see how much my nails have grown and that my nails need to be filled in.

healthy hair

My Hair is healthy, longer, shinier and you wouldn’t believe it but just after a week of using it my neighbor asked me if I was doing something different to my hair. We were at the bus stop waiting for the kids to go off to school and she had to know what I was doing with my hair because it looked so much healthier. I was glowing with that compliment.

The only difference in my skin that I notice is that I don’t seem to be quite as flakey as I was. My hands were getting dry while I was traveling a lot and as I started using the supplements my hands weren’t as dry. I cant’ say for sure because every time I traveled I was in a different location with different weather  behaviors.

You can sign up to take the challenge here and find out how your hair, skin and nails can be improved. They also have weekly contests to win spa treatments and other fun prizes.  The bottle I received from them contained 80 gummies total, with no milk/lactose, artificial flavors, soy, gluten, wheat, yeast, fish, or sodium.  The three main ingredients are Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Biotin, which all work to strengthen hair and nails and keep skin looking great.

Here is my video experience of the Nature’s Bounty 30 Day Challenge.

Getting The Hollywood Look With Salon Benjamin

May 21, 2014 by Beeb 8 Comments

Blended: Movie Opens May 23rd

Travel and event consideration provided by Warner Bros. Pictures.

During last week’s Blended press event, there were a number of fun activities happening prior to our Q&A with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. There were makeup artists available during our luncheon to get us ready, and once we were done with makeup, we also had a full hair styling team on hand to finish up the look. The hair crew consisted of stylists from Salon Benjamin along with friends from Number 4 Hair and Twistband who were providing all the supplies to seal our looks in place.

The styling theme was braids, buns and curls, with each guest getting a variation on this look to suit them.

When I took a seat in the styling chair, the stylist asked me what I would like done. As I had said earlier in makeup, I replied, “Anything!!”. Hair stylists always get excited when I give them carte blanche – it’s pretty obvious that I’m adventurous, since I’m showing up with pink hair, so they know they can have some fun. Salon Benjamin whizzed into action, whirling me around in the styling chair in a cloud of hairspray. I could feel my hair being teased sky-high, with the curling iron going on one side and what felt like a braid happening on the other. There was no mirror, so I was really excited anticipating what my big reveal would be – I knew it was going to be good when every person who walked by me saw what was happening and giggled, “That’s awesome.”

While the stylist worked her magic, I took the opportunity once again to glean and tricks of the trade and take notes from the hair team. My notebook from the event is filled with my interview questions…and tips on how to get just the right ratio of pink hair dye. 😉

Then, it was time for my finished style to be unveiled:

Front view: Curls

They did such an amazing job! It was fun, bold and right up my alley. I got so many compliments on the style – Jayda said that she liked how I had this punk rock hair and makeup on top and a business suit on the bottom, which I of course loved too! 😉

My new 'do

I took quite a few photos of the style later that night so I could try to remember how they did it! They style wore so well that I just slept in it and boarded the plane the next morning with the same look.

Number 4 Hair

Locking my style in place were the Number 4 Hair styling products which Salon Benjamin utilized while creating the look. I was thrilled later that afternoon to win a big bag of Number 4 Hair Products in a raffle – whoo-hoo!! The bag included Clarifying Shampoo, Reconstructing Masque, Super Comb Prep & Protect, Styling Foam, Support Solution, Texture Styling Crème, Non Aerosol Hair Spray and Mighty Hair Spray. Quality products are one of the few things that I, “Super Coupon Girl”, think is worth the investment, so I was very excited to win these and have a chance to try them out at home! Totally worth checking a bag for. I’ve been experimenting with the styling aids and trying different products each day since coming home, which has been totally fun. I also received a goodie bag with a package of TwistBands included, so my hair is thanking me for making this trip!

My Makeover With Flower Beauty Cosmetics

May 20, 2014 by Beeb 8 Comments

Blended: Movie Opens May 23rd

Travel and event consideration courtesy Warner Bros. Pictures.

I had a lot of fun in Hollywood last week. I got to do some sight-seeing, hang out with family that live in LA, and spend an afternoon at the most relaxing press junket ever for Blended. We started the day off with an advance screening of the film at TCL Chinese Theater, then headed to Loews Hollywood Hotel to interview Drew Barrymore, Adam Sandler and Wendi McLendon-Covey. Before the interviews started, we had time for a nice luncheon where there was also a full team of makeup artists on hand to get us ready for the Q&A.

Makeup tables

I love all things makeup, so I made a beeline straight to the makeup artists – the lunch buffet could wait!

Flower Beauty

The cosmetics provided for our makeovers were from the Flower Beauty line by Drew Barrymore. The goal of Flower Beauty is to provide quality cosmetics at affordable prices, with products sold exclusively at Walmart. Because of Drew Barrymore’s high profile, her role in promoting her brand frees up their advertising budget to be spent on the cosmetic formulas and outer packaging instead. You know I’m all about budget-friendly beauty, so I was definitely interested to see how these products would perform! Flower Beauty cosmetics are also made in the US and not tested on animals.

Beeb's makeover

Photo credit: Meredith at Sanity in Suburbia

I had a seat in the makeup chair and met makeup artist Kimberly, who asked me what I wanted done. My response was “Anything” – as anyone who knows me can vouch, I’m always changing my look, and there’s nothing I like more than seeing a beauty expert try out what they think would suit me. Kimberly got to work with her brush and decided to define my brows and do a dark smokey eye over the pale brown shadow I had on. I loved this – I wear very neutral makeup for press events, but in my personal life I like very dramatic cats-eye makeup. I also find smokey eyes to be challenging, so I picked Kimberly’s brains while she worked on my makeup, typing notes in my iPhone so I wouldn’t forget her suggestions. I’m always trying to get better at makeup, so I enjoyed getting hints from the pros as much as I did getting pampered with the makeover!

Relevant makeup tip: Appropriately enough, one key tip for makeup is blending. Blend, blend, blend that eyeshadow!

Beeb and Kimberly

My makeover looked fabulous – it was so much fun, and I felt great! In fact, it looked so good that later that night, I actually just propped my head up on a few pillows and slept in the makeup. I had a very early departure and knew I wouldn’t have time for much sleep before my flight, so I decided to save time and just leave my makeup as it was. It had worn so well that all I had to do was give it a little touch-up and it was good to go the next morning!

Flower Beauty Cosmetics

We also received goodie bags to take home which included several Flower Beauty products. I’ve been having a great time trying these out at home as I refer back to all my iPhone notes about makeup application! 😀

Beeb's makeover

My completed makeover!

La Lumière illuMask LED Light Therapy Mask Anti-Aging or Anti-Acne Treatment

April 27, 2014 by Momstart 2 Comments

I feel like it’s a secret that no body wants to talk about but once you enter your 30’s acne comes back to haunt you. I have the same amount of acne that I had when I was a teenager and it drives me nuts. So when I was offered the chance to review the illuMask LED Light Therapy Mask Anti-Aging or Anti-Acne Treatment I said yes please.

DSC00372

I haven’t tried it that long yet and since I’m traveling I left it at home but I really did find it to be a simple step in my day. I wore it while I was working. You just put it on like a pair of sunglasses and turn it on. The lights are blue and pink and they are very bright but once the mask is on your face you really don’t notice it much at all.

DSC00370

Name: illuMask™ Anti-Aging Phototherapy Mask

The illuMask™ Anti-Aging Phototherapy Mask uses gentle red and infrared light wavelengths and uniformly distributes the light over the entire face for a short 15 minutes a day. Containing 30 treatments in one convenient, lightweight mask, the Anti-Aging Phototherapy Mask is an ultra-affordable step in your skincare routine that delivers clinically proven results. Safe for all skin types and tones, the gentle treatment does not emit any damaging UV rays. Clinical results showed illuMask™ Anti-Aging Phototherapy Mask to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in as little as two weeks.

Price: $30 for 30 treatments

Where to buy: Ulta, Walmart, Target, Walgreens, or via www.illuMask.com

DSC00371

Name: illuMask™ Anti-Acne Light Therapy Mask

Scientifically proven to be an effective way to treat acne, among other skin conditions, light therapy, or phototherapy, is a transformative treatment safe for all skin types. To make phototherapy accessible and easy for all, illuMask uses groundbreaking, patented technology to deliver all the benefits of light therapy in a convenient hands-free mask. The at-home light therapy device slips comfortably onto the face, just like a pair of glasses, for a 15-minute treatment that delivers better results than the leading prescription drug acne treatments. The illuMask Anti-Acne Light Therapy Mask is FDA cleared for the treatment of mild to moderate acne. Clinical results proved illuMask left skin clearer, smoother, and less oily with fewer blemishes.

Price: $30 for 30 treatments

Where to buy: Ulta, Walmart, Target, Walgreens, or via www.illuMask.com

One thing that I don’t like about it is that every time you turn it on and then off the counter goes down, even if you didn’t mean to because you were just testing it out. I was showing my kids what it does and ended up using 3 treatments before I even turned it on for myself to actually use.

This revolutionary device is the first of its kind, available as an anti-aging or anti-acne treatment, and allows you to “bring the dermatologist home” by providing a gentle 15 minute per day treatment that emits safe, effective LED light to the skin. The illuMask works as well as department store devices that cost hundreds of dollars, with the added bonus of convenience and affordability. It is safe for all skin types and contains 30 daily treatments, making it an easy step to any existing skincare routine.

Suave Kids® 3-in-1 Muppets Most Wanted Shampoo Conditioner & Body Wash #MuppetsMostWantedEvent

March 22, 2014 by Momstart 1 Comment

The Muppets are at it again and Suave Kids® is joining them to help celebrate the premiere of Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted, hitting theaters March 21st.  For a limited time, select Suave Kids products will feature characters from the Muppets gang, making bath time the best time for your little ones!

image

I received samples while I was in LA on my press trip with Disney. So the kids are using it in their bathroom. I love the kids having a 3-in-1 because then it’s less of a mess in the bathtub or shower. They love it and they feel so independent using it because it’s easy for them to open. In fact, Miles told me the other day you can go mom I don’t need your help in the shower. Great, my son is a big boy now. It’s sort of a bittersweet moment, I’m proud and yet sad because I don’t want him to grow up.

Suave Kids® Muppets products:

image

· Suave Kids® 2-in-1 Shampoo Smoothers – Reduces tangles and split-ends, leaving hair feeling extra soft.  This product gently cleans and moisturizes for less than the more expensive brands.

o Available in Strawberry featuring Miss Piggy

· Suave Kids® 2-in-1 Shampoo – Cleanses and contains conditioners to help eliminate tough tangles in one easy step.

o Available in Watermelon featuring Animal

· Suave Kids® 3-in-1 Shampoo, Conditioner & Body Wash – Cleans and detangles hair while leaving skin soft and smooth.

o Available in Strawberry featuring Miss Piggy, Berry featuring Gonzo and Free & Gentle featuring Kermit

Check out your favorite characters “Most Wanted” on-the-road essentials while they promote their new movie here and follow Suave Professionals Celebrity Stylist Marcus Francis’ simple tips below to recreate the signature waves Miss Piggy flaunted on the red carpet for the move premiere:

1. To prep strands, use Suave Kids® 2-in-1 Shampoo Smoothers in Strawberry featuring Miss Piggy herself on the limited-edition packaging. This gentle, creamy conditioning formula reduces tangles and split-ends, leaving hair feeling extra soft.

2. Once hair is completely dry, hold a one-inch curling iron vertically and wrap each section of hair around the barrel.

3. After hair has cooled, gently brush out curls using your fingers.

4. Lock in the look and tame unruly flyaways with Suave Kids® Swingin’ Coconut Light-Hold Hairspray.

Facial Hydration and Collagen Production Same Time Le Mieux Collagen Peptide Serum

March 22, 2014 by Momstart Leave a Comment

I suck at skincare. I always think that when my face is oily I need to dry it out. I wash it with soap or with one of those cleaners that has alcohol in it. I’ve used toothpaste and alcohol wipes too. Then of course, (honestly I had no idea) my face is even oilier because I never apply moisturizer. I feel like I’m starting to get lines under my eyes too and I want to stay youthful. I have hopes of doing my facial routine but had no idea where to start and the more complicated it is the less likely I am to do it.

That’s when I received a sample of Le Mieux Cosmetics (www.lemieuxcosmetics.com), an award-winning anti-aging line recently credited by celebrity fitness trainer Tracy Anderson as having "transformed" her skin. The line offers a range of products from cleansers to serums, creams, masks, and sun protection, plus a new handheld beauty tool. Le Mieux is known for being extremely gentle on sensitive, rosacea-prone skin while delivering effective and exemplary results. Our products are also loved by actresses Kate Hudson, Christina Ricci, Jane Lynch, Julia-Louis Dreyfus, Joy Bryant, and used behind the scenes on a number of TV imageshows and film sets to plump fine lines, wrinkles and keep actors and actresses skin hydrated and feeling fresh.

Treatment results:

  • Resurfaces, brightens, and hydrates dull, aging skin
  • Minimizes dark spots and age spots
  • Reduces redness and sensitivity
  • Helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Firms, lifts, and tones for a bright, healthy, youthful appearance

“While most anti-aging creams focus on creating a barrier to seal and retain moisture inside the skin, this new serum focuses on increasing the moisture levels from within to achieve toned, firmer looking skin,” says Janel Luu, CEO of Le Mieux, a global, professional beauty brand used by top estheticians, high-end skincare enthusiasts and Hollywood notables. “This hard-working serum absorbs easily into skin, and combines a number of key ingredients that rejuvenate delicate facial tissue while combating damage from UV rays.”

Collagen Peptide Serum (retail $85) is a dual-purpose moisturizer and serum, which means that you don’t need to use separate creams and serums in your daily skincare regimen. Containing an arsenal of anti-aging ingredients (various peptides, superoxide dismutase, beta glucan, green tea, hyaluronic acid), the Collagen Peptide Serum is applied after cleansing and toning, and is finished by applying SPF (and then makeup).

I’m so grateful for this sample. It’s helping my acne and keeping my skin from being dry and oily.

No More Morning Hair Fuss: The Miracle In The Wet Brush

January 12, 2014 by Momstart 1 Comment

I can’t honestly say if this brush works for Zoe because she’s seen the commercial over a dozen times on The Disney XD channel for this brush or because it actually doesn’t pull her hair. You know sometimes it’s the power of persuasion that works best but whatever it is, I LOVE THE WET BRUSH.

IMG_0198

My daughter and I used to argue every day about her brushing her hair. Either she would do it or I would do it but no matter what tears and high blood pressure were always involved. I would end up yelling she would end up crying and our mornings were not off to a good start. Now, she doesn’t complain and most morning I don’t even have to remind her to brush. The Wet Brush will tackle nasty winter tangles and knots quickly and painlessly.

IMG_0199

They are perfect for use in the shower, after a shower, at a salon, on-the-go  or on children who cringe at the sight of a hair brush.

The Wet Brush’s unique features include:

* Super gentle Intelli-Flex bristles don’t pull hair

* Works great on wet or dry hair

* Perfect for men, women and children of all ages

* Great for on-the-go and fits in any purse

* Detangles painlessly and effortlessly, in just a few strokes

* Excellent for extensions and wigs

* Ergonomically designed handle for children (Squirt only)

My sister’s best friend is a hair dresser and she swears by the Wet Brush and they sell them in the salon that my sister goes too. I love using it too, it’s great on my dry processed hair. Zoe told me that the commercial says that it doesn’t pull out your hair, so she’s surprised to find my purple hairs in the brush. I think that’s just how much hair I lose in a day.

Gorgeous New Make Up Trends – From Day To Night

Gorgeous New Make Up Trends – From Day To Night

Guest Post:

image

needed

Spring is finally here and it is time to take off our winter makeup and head towards our blushes and peach lipsticks. As with our fashion choices, our makeup will change now that the weather is heating up, leaving our skin with a beautiful natural glow. So how can we get that eternally fresh faced look to last us through the day and into the evening? Well here you can get all the ideas that you will need for this spring.

Head for a light blush

There is nothing more fresh faced than light rosy cheeks. They scream health and happiness, whilst framing our cheek bones and adding definition to our faces. You will need two pieces of kit to get a soft, pale, blush; firstly a color that matches your natural skin tone and secondly a fluffy brush for application both of which can be found easily through stores like www.activeskin.com.au. Getting the right shade is the most important part; it will draw the line between a natural glow and looking like a clown – I am sure that is not the look you are going for. For porcelain skin tones aim for pinks rather than reds or oranges – as you tan or the darker your skin tone then start adding in more reds.

Minimize your eye makeup

We lead busy lives and it is this hectic schedule that is usually written all over our faces. One way to keep looking well rested all day is to minimize our eye makeup, building it up as the day turns to night – from the office to the bar in one simple step. Start off your day with some simple mascara and under eye highlighter – that is all you will need to keep your eyes looking refreshed.

As the day wears on, we all need a little touch up and eye liner can be the perfect addition. Not only is it a great tool for highlighting our eyes, it is also a great way to enhance their natural beauty. This will be enough to take you through to after work drinks or to pick the kids up from school.

Add some volume to your hair

As we get older, our hair can begin to lose the luster it once had. You only need to consider what it has to go through every day to understand why it may need a boost every now and again. Along with buying all the latest products, a girl’s best friend has to be the humble crimper. Now, don’t panic as this is not a throwback to the 1980’s when our hair was as big as our shoulder pads. The beauty of owning a pair of crimpers is that we can use them to add some volume to our locks and still maintain a sleek head of hair.

Simply take the top section of your hair and pull this aside, this will remain natural – whether you have straight or curly hair. The underneath sections of your hair will be the areas that are crimped. You can do this just at the roots or you can do the full length and this will depend upon the look you are going for, but either way this simple trick will add depth to your hair and keep it looking fresh all day long.

Manuka Doctor Skincare: Purified Bee Venom Skincare

August 16, 2013 by Beeb 3 Comments

Manuka Doctor Skincare

Product samples were provided for this article.

I’m always on the search for newer and better skin care products, and I’ve tried all kinds of unique things in my quest to find a good anti-aging product. When I was recently introduced to Manuka Doctor Skincare, the first thing that jumped out to me was the fact that they use purified bee venom in their products. Bee venom? Well, that’s a new one on me! Apparently, this has been called “Nature’s answer to Botox” – I’m always a skeptic, but hey, bee venom certainly wouldn’t be worse than injecting a neurotoxin. We do the craziest things for beauty, don’t we?!

I received samples of both the Manuka Doctor ApiNourish Rejuvenating Skin Cream and the ApiNourish Rejuvenating Face Mask. These products blend purified bee venom with ingredients like Manuka honey, and tout the bee venom as an anti-aging product. Apparently, bee venom is the new trendy skin treatment with celebrities and royalty – Manuka Doctor have a quote on their website from Dr. Sunil Chopra stating that there is convincing laboratory data to back this up, which sounds awesome; unfortunately I couldn’t find any sources for these lab findings, which I think would be a great thing for them to publish and link to. Like I said, I’m a skeptic, so although I’m willing to try almost any cosmetic product, I’m not easily convinced; I like to review medical publications and see what data has been assembled for myself. I am intrigued by the concept, so I’d love to read up more about what’s been studied.

So, how have the products been working? I’ve been using them for about a week so far – during my first day using the skin cream, I did a patch test as advised to make sure I didn’t have a reaction to the product. Obviously, you’re not supposed to use this if you have a bee allergy! I’ve never been stung by a bee in my life, so I thought, “This would be an interesting way to find out if I do have an allergy…” Fortunately, I had no issues with this whatsoever.

The Rejuvenating Skin Cream is a thin lotion that I apply to my face in the morning. It’s not meant for use around the eyes, so you’ll want to combine this with an eye cream during the day if you’re as much of a moisturizing nut as I am. The cream does have a definite tingle to it, but has overall been just fine for daily wear. I’ve also tried the Face Mask twice so far – it has a nice, creamy consistency, and since you’re meant to put on a thin layer, it really looks more like a moisturizer that absorbs into the skin rather than your traditional mud mask! Apparently, you can even use is as a deep moisturizing treatment if you want, but that sounds way too intense for me. The mask stays on for 30 minutes, and I do find that it stings a little, but not enough to make me take it off.

I have super sensitive skin – crazy sensitive, really! – so I was aware that this line of ingredients might be too much for me. I did notice that after using both the Face Mask last night and the Skin Cream this morning, my face feels a little tender, so I think I’ll reserve the Face Mask as a more sporadic treatment and possibly use the Skin Cream every other day. It’s only been a week, so it’s not like the clock has been turned back on my face, but I’m open to trying these for a while and seeing if there are any benefits long-term. I think if I don’t overdo it, these won’t be too harsh, although my skin will sometimes have a reaction to a product that I’ve used for months without issue, so I’m always aware that my crazy skin can complicate which products I use!

For more information on this and other bee venom products, check out Manuka Doctor.com.

What do you think about purified bee venom as a skincare treatment, readers?

Rimmel London Makeup Giveaway

August 6, 2013 by Beeb 29 Comments

Rimmel London Makeup

Makeup provided for review purposes.

When I first started wearing makeup as a teenager, it was so exciting when I got to try new products. I’m turning 30 next month, but that excitement has never diminished – I still love trying new colors, new tools, and new beauty innovations. It’s so much fun!

I recently got a package full of Rimmel London products intended to help you get a great summer look. I started off by applying Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation in color 101, Classic Ivory. This shade was a good match for my fair complexion and gave nice, light coverage. The best part for me is that this foundation also SPF 18 – it’s important for me to have SPF on my face year-round, but especially during the summer. For days when I know I’m going to have a lot of sun exposure, I put sunscreen on first and then this foundation. I burn easily!

Next, I applied Wake Me Up Instant Radiance Shimmer Touch in Radiant Rose to the top of my cheeks. It has a nice creamy consistency and adds a subtle, pretty hint of color. I don’t tend to wear blush much, because I get overheated easily and my face gets red and flushed – I figure it’s my natural blusher. 😉

For the eyes, I applied my eyeshadow and eyeliner as normal, and finished with ScandalEyes Mascara in black. This does a good job of extended and enhancing the look of my lashes without being too cakey or “Stiff” looking – I actually quite like it.

For my final touch, I penciled in my eyebrows with Professional Eyebrow Pencil in hazel. I only use eyebrow pencils sporadically, but since my hair is currently dyed dark red & black, this color went well over my naturally blonde eyebrows. I thought the color went pretty well with my look – and my favorite part was the fact that this pencil has an eyebrow brush built right into the top of the lid. This is SO handy for me, because my last eyebrow brush wasn’t as convenient and ended up breaking. I always smooth my brows out so it’s nice to have this pencil in my bag to keep my eyebrows groomed even when I don’t fill them in with color!

Here’s my finished look:
