Winter is almost here, and it sure feels like it. As someone who has always lived in colder climates, I’m OK with that – I get overheated extremely easily and I don’t know what I’d do with myself if I lived in a hot climate! However, it does pose some style issues. I’m a hyper-girly fashionista who isn’t very fond of pants, and it can be hard for to stay warm and chic at the same time. That’s why I really appreciated the article “How to Stay Warm Without Sacrificing Your Style” on Yahoo! Style, which shows a few choice pieces for keeping fashionably warm. From sleek black jackets to bold onesies, these are the kind of statements I try to make when bundling up. So to further help prepare my fellow fashionistas for the cold months ahead, I want to share three looks I’ve put together inspired by this article!
Look #1: Warmly Retro
One way to tackle your winter coat with panache is to look to the past. This vintage coat has been in my wardrobe for years and years, and it’s always in style! It works beautifully with modern-day ensembles, or you can go full retro by adding other 1950s & 1960s-era accessories. I like to pair it with a big pair of sunglasses for a nod to Audrey Hepburn!
Look #2: Totally Rad
Speaking of the past, another great way to warm up your wardrobe is to take a cue from the ’80s and grab a pair of ankle warmers! No, you don’t have to wear them with a leotard. These are a great way to add warmth to a skirt, or if it’s truly chilly, layer them over pants for an extra accent and heat boost.
Look #3: Classically Cozy
Tailored cuts and primary colors are always in fashion. For example, this cream coat with black buttons creates a timeless look that is very versatile – it’s very warm, but tailored enough to create a decent silhouette and not leave you looking like a big box. Just the ticket for staying cozy during the big storm we’re having on the Oregon Coast this week!
