Stop the Fidgeting Kids Before they Even Start this Simple Change
Gather your kids in the living room and let them know they are going to go to a theme park or on vacation, and watch their faces light up.
Now arrive at the park, and watch their faces get droopy after several hours. It may not even take that long.
No, your kids might not be tired. They may be wearing clothes that aren’t comfortable enough for the trip. Soon they might rise up and say to you that they’re not comfortable, and if they are not then you will not be after a while.
How do you make sure your kids are comfortable enough to take on a trip around a park that lasts several hours? The answer lies in planning ahead.
If you need to buy new clothes for your kids before the trip, make sure your kids are adequately measured. If you buy your kids’ clothes one size too big, they will complain about shirts being too loose, shorts threatening to drop from their waist or jeans that are too loose around the stomach.
If your purchases are one size too small, the slightest movement will cause problems. Tight-fitting clothing eventually stretches out, but it is still a problem because tight clothes can restrict movement, make it difficult to run or walk, and it can prevent your kids from breathing properly. The same goes for shoes. Don’t buy them too loose that your kids constantly run out of them, but don’t make shoes so tight that your kids’ feet hurt and prevent them from enjoying the surroundings.
If your theme-park visit includes plenty of sunshine, black is not beautiful in this case. Darker colors like blacks and blues tend to trap heat and make it more difficult for kids to enjoy the atmosphere. Lighter colors like yellows and whites reflect heat off of the fabric and back into the air, and the end result is a child cooler in temper and temperature.
Theme parks in warmer cities during the summer run the risk of sudden thunderstorms during the day or evening. Have a change of shirt or shorts ready just in case that happens. Be sure the shirt and shorts are lighter in color. Dark colors after a storm, when the sun comes back out, may make a child feel doubly uncomfortable.
Most stores carry strong options for these types of clothes. Online stores like Best Dressed Child are great places to look as well. The key word is to find clothes in your child’s size, make sure he or she is comfortable wearing them and walking around, and have breathable fabrics. If your child isn’t upset, the chances are you won’t be as well and greater memories will be created.
