Sleep is one of the most crucial aspects of our lives, but paradoxically, it also tends to be the first thing neglected. When life fills up, it’s easy to tell ourselves that we’ll just stay up a little later or get up a little earlier, so that we can get everything done. After all, we can just catch up on our sleep later, right?
Except later never comes, and we actually can’t catch up on our sleep: That’s a myth. The cult of busyness in today’s world makes us all feel like taking time to rest is lazy, but this dangerous pressure to burn both ends of the candle just makes us slower, less productive, and more miserable to boot.
And even when we do carve out time to catch some Zzzs, it can be hard to actually fall asleep. As a stressed out workaholic insomniac, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to prioritize sleep, but even though I’ve been making more time for it, it’s been difficult actually getting to sleep once I climb into bed. I often find myself tossing and turning because I have a lot on my mind, and it can be hard to get comfortable – I sleep with a ridiculous number of pillows to try and take pressure off my knees and back. My mattress is pretty old and beaten up, and I know it’s not giving me the kind of support I need to drift off easily.
Restonic are dedicated to making life more comfortable so that you can get a good night’s sleep. It’s even in their name:
R – Rejuvenate on a Restonic mattress for the rest of your life.
E – Embrace your need for sleep. Getting out of bed is overrated.
S – Supporting your dreams of a healthy life with healthy sleep.
T – Think about your need for sleep. At the end of the day, it’s night.
O – Observe how much sweeter life is with a good night’s sleep.
N – Nourish yourself with a sleep sanctuary. Every. Night.
I – Innovate your life with a good night’s sleep.
C – Celebrate life. It’s good!
After years of wearing myself down by putting off sleep in order to work more and still be “Superwoman” in my personal life, I’ve seen firsthand how my ability to actually dothese things dramatically decreases when I’m not sleeping well. I have to treat myself better and remember that the more rest I get, the more productive I’ll actually be. Sleep deprivation is insidious, too: When it’s happening, you start to get used to it and don’t even realize how much it’s impacting you. So in 2015, I’m promising to set better boundaries with work and other commitments so that I can go to bed earlier. I’m also trying to pay attention to my body and create the most comfortable setting I can in order to fall asleep sooner once I’m in bed, and wake up feeling more refreshed. In with aromatherapy candles and out with my beat up old mattress!
