Staying in Fashion as a Mum
Guest Post
Staying in fashion when you are a busy mum is difficult, sometimes even impossible, but it can be done. Many women believe that as they have to wear functional clothes, they can no longer follow fashion and have the same comfortable movement that they get from their everyday items. In some senses this is true – you wouldn’t go and pick the kids up from school wearing a skinny tube dress, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun with your wardrobe choices. The other point, that many of us worry about in this age of austerity is the cost that comes with buying new clothing. There are many places that now offer us affordable fashions at reasonable prices, which can be utilized to get the most out of our wardrobe choices.
Here are some of the key items to look at this summer and why they will be both practical and stylish at the same time – yes it can actually happen!
The Perfect Shorts
Shorts are a must for every summer, not just to keep us cooler in the summer sun, but also to keep us more secure than a short skirt. There are hundreds of styles to choose from this year, from the hot pant to the knee length and this decision really has to be made depending upon your body shape.
This pair from the Superdry range at Littlewoods Ireland are perfect for busy mums on the go. They are not so short that they don’t leave enough to the imagination and offer the wearer greater freedom of movement than very short versions. Plus you can team them with one of your favourite comfortable T Shirts, so you don’t have to buy any new tops. Throw on a comfortable boyfriend cardigan and some converse and you have a great look for picking up the kids and running around after them.
The Smart Dress
Every woman needs a little black dress, they cover a multitude of sins and can be worn in so many different ways, that you definitely get your moneys worth. This dress is the perfect example of a summer day dress that can be worn for so many occasions. The 50’s style shape makes this piece flattering for almost all body shapes, cinching us in at the waist and covering up hips and thighs, if you want the Marilyn Monroe figure then this is the dress for you.
For a general day look, why not throw on some bright coloured ballet flats and a colour pop cardigan, perfect for coffee with the girls or a day out with the family. However, this dress doesn’t end there. Team with a pair of killer heels and layered necklaces and you have a great party dress for those summer barbeques, or even as a works outfit – the possibilities are endless.
The Summer Jacket
A great way to spice up your current wardrobe is by choosing a new jacket to wear with some of your old items. By adding in a fashion focused jacket, your jeans, jogging bottoms and skirts can take on a whole new feel, making you feel stylish and keeping you warm in our temperamental summers.
This is another great option from the Superdry range. If you are a sporty mum, who enjoys watching her kids play football at the weekends, or going for long walks in the park then this is a great option for you. Functional enough to keep you warm and dry, but effortlessly cool, you will look as good as you feel.
