Organizing my makeup has always proved to be a challenge, because my bathroom storage space is limited. Although we’ve completely remodeled the bathroom to make the most of every inch, the layout still poses challenges. I store most of my makeup on a shelf area that extends next to the shower, and the way the shelf is designed makes it a little awkward to put things on. To make matters worse, since all of my makeup items are small, it’s hard to keep them organized – usually, when I deep clean, I arrange everything into neat little piles that promptly roll away or get knocked over when I have to reach to the back of the shelf. Because of its odd position in between the wall and shower, it’s a little cramped and hard to keep in order, so I’d kind of give up trying. Here is what it looked like:
I KNOW, I KNOW! The rest of my house looks a lot nicer than this, I swear. 😉 It’s always bugged me, and with as much makeup as I wear, it’s not efficient either. So when I was challenged by QVC host Jill Bauer to make over an area of my home as a Spring cleaning project, I knew immediately what I wanted to do! You will likely remember Jill from some of the fun crafts we shared last fall, but here’s a refresher:

I received a Tabletop Spinning Cosmetic Organizer to help me along, which fits nicely in my shelf space. I put everything on the shelf into a box, then put it into the organizer piece by piece. Once all the makeup was in place, I tucked a few large items (such as a big makeup brush clutch and cotton swabs) to the side or behind the organizer, but aside from those key items, I put every item into the organizer to get it off the counter. I’m really pleased with the finished result!
This organizer worked out even better than I expected. All of the small compartments make it so much easier to separate and store those little makeup items, keeping them right at my reach whenever I need them.
This has already made my life so much easier, and it was a quick project to do. As a perfectionist, it’s hard to even start a project if I know I’m not going to perfectly organize every single thing I own, but I realized it was so much smarter to start with the stuff I actually use constantly, rather than spending 5 hours color coding the eyeshadows I put on twice a year. 😉 Now that I have a makeup organizer, I could never go back to storing it without one. Why did I not find this years ago?! Thanks for the inspiration, Jill, my bathroom looks so much nicer now!
