Inspired by Johanna Hedva’s Sick Woman Theory, over 100 people over the course of an evening came to listen to poetry, fiction, video and dance performances, and a panel discussion with Kiyaan Abadani, Neve Be, Amy Berkowitz, Liz Henry, Claire Light, Carolyn Lazard, Mia Mingus, and Johanna Hedva.
Additionally, there were zines from Aging Zine, the San Francisco Zine Fest zine library, Queer Anxiety Babiez Distro, music by Collander, and games by Xandir Cando. Bodywork was also provided by donation.
The event was wheelchair-accessible, fragrance free, free, and open to the public. A captioned video and transcript of the event are forthcoming; for now, there are photographs, as well as this video and transcription of another of Johanna Hedva’s talks about illness, at an evening entitled My Body is a Prison of Pain and I Want to Leave It Like A Mystic But Also I Love It and Want It to Matter Politically.
Pereg Gourmet donated several of their alternative, gluten-free flours, which were used as speaker gifts. Many different people pooled their time and talents to pull this event off – it was a special night!
