Day Five of Season of sharing by Summer,
Recently Mom Start had a comments for meals campaign; thanks to IAMS. Together, Mom Start and IAMS were able to help support our local no-kill shelter, Homeward Pet Adoption. IAMS sent Mom Start 8 bags of food for the comments you guys left us. So thank you for helping us give.
Homeward Pet Adoption is a no-kill shelter. Homeward doesn’t accept strays, but they accept pets from other rescues or families who have to get rid of their kitten, puppy, cat or dog. Being no-kill means Homeward is giving animals a second chance. If a pet is deemed not adoptable then a sanctuary is found to give that animal a home.
Choosing to help Homeward was easy for me. I have two furry children of my own, and have a huge heart for all animals without homes. I joke with my husband then when he’s gone I’ll be the crazy dog lady on the corner. I can’t actually volunteer there for that reason … I’d adopt them all!
Mom Start has been fortunate enough to help Homeward thanks to IAMS. Anyone can help though and it’s as easy as picking up a spare bag of treats when you get some for your own pet. Many people would think of the obvious though, adopting or fostering an animal. You can volunteer doing administrative work, walking dogs, event organizing, cat cuddling, or being about of the clean team. Many places also have wish lists that include the usual needs – foods, treats, litter, toys, bedding – and things you might not think of like towels, copy paper, and bleach. Shelters also need monetary donations and gift cards.
The animals of the Seattle area are very fortunate as Homeward was able to increase the size of their facility in October. They can now house more canines and felines looking for a permanent home. Currently anyone can become a permanent part of Homeward by donating a tile with your name, message, and an emblem or any combination of these.
If you want to support a local shelter find out more about the one in your area. In fact, share about your local shelter below if you wish or give a shout out thanking IAMS for their donation to Homeward.
Summer is very active in our Local MOMS Club chapter, she is the mother of two adorable active boys, and is always thinking of ways to help others. She is a friend, a wife, and always busy as all mommies are. She is very active on Facebook, addicted to Geocaching and very interested in organic and green living while cooking up a storm.
