I feel very connected to wanting to support our troops and honoring the people who serve our country. I’m a military brat; my dad was in the Air Force. Almost every man in my family has served in the military at some time in their life. I grew up in the Washington, D.C. area during Operation Desert Storm and the “Free Kuwait” movement. We’ve hung yellow ribbons on our doors, tied them around our front yard tree, wore them on our wrists, and displayed them on the back of our cars. I’ve had solider pen pals arranged through my school as a child, known soldiers in college I kept in touch with during deployment, and as an adult I’ve supported military personnel with care packages. Thanks to the people serving us in the military we live with “… liberty and justice for all.”
Today is Veterans Day. Have you thanked a veteran today? The greatest casualty is being forgotten.TM “On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” – 11 a.m. on November 11 (1918) – The Great War ended. We now have the national holiday of Veterans Day.
The Wounded Warrior Project has been hosting a two month long program called Believe In Heroes. The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) supports our troops returning home by structuring activities that nurture veterans’ mind, body, economic empowerment, and engagement. You can give a one-time donation or join the advance guard by giving a monthly donation of $19 or more to help this cause. You can also volunteer to help WWP.
You can also give a donation to The Wounded Warrior Project through partnering corporations such as Under Armour sportswear or shop WWP Products on Overstock.com. Overstock.com also offers a small info page about WWP where you can meet a warrior, give money as low as a $1 donation, and watch a video about an Overstock.com donation to The Wounded Warrior Project. If you’re active, retired, or reserve military personnel then Overstock.com offers a “club O” with rewards just for you. You can also donate dollars or Membership Rewards through the American Express Members Give program. The Wounded Warrior Project is also one of the listed charities on eBay Giving Works which allows shopping, selling, and donating to benefit WWP.
Happy Veteran’s Day! Thank you to all who have served; we are the land of the free because of the brave.
