Scooter With A Twist – Whiplash by Street Surfing #giveaway

November 13, 2009 by Momstart 362 Comments

image002 Have the style of Street Surfing with the handle of a scooter. I feel much safer with this scooter over the skateboard but my children are only 2 and 3. So their products reach out to different age groups.

Street Surfing sent me a skateboard about five months ago. i used my blog to give it away and it is being enjoyed.

The winner of the giveaway sent me some photos of her husband playing with it. Hopefully she doesn’t mind them being posted here.

I mean the picture to the left is just asking to be posted right?

The Original Wave Startup Set

I hate doing cookie cutter posts but today I have to. I have no idea, well, I have some idea because I have seen the wave; but I really don’t have experience with the Whiplash and I don’t want to infer that I do. I can tell you, I’m sure you’ll have fun and you should take safety precautions and wear a helmet.

But here is a Product Description of Whiplash.

Whiplash

Talk about turning heads. Street Surfing is introducing Whiplash™, The Scooter with a twist. This self-propelling, revolutionary new ride is part scooter, part Wave® (caster board) and totally  fun. Centered around the award-winning design of The Wave’s® unique caster design and Torsion technology, Whiplash’s™ flexing deck and handlebar fuse together to provide riders with a cool, side to side, whip-like ride. The patent-pending Whiplash™ provides enough momentum to self-propel – so much so – riders’ feet never need to touch the ground.

Whiplash’s™ extra wide skate inspired deck, available in black with red grip tape, is made of a webbed design carbon reinforced composite material that is supported by an extra long lightweight handlebar. The folding handle provides for easy travel and storage. Whiplash™ has a traditional 97 mm front wheel while the rear caster wheel that zips along on ABEC 7 bearings.

* Rear caster wheel with ABEC 7 bearings

* Extra long handle that folds for easy travel & storage

* Wave Torsion Self propelling technology

* Extra wide skate inspired flexing deck

* Reinforced & lightweight design

Whiplash™ (suggested retail price of $79.99) will be sold at leading retailers and key online stores as well as Street Surfing’s online store.

    1. Place the Whiplash on a slight downward slope.

Place foot in the center of the back platform and position the scooter so that it is level with the ground.

    2. Push with your front foot and lean
    your weight forward.

Look straight ahead. Straighten your body and bend your knees slightly.

    3. Immediately after pushing off,
    start the twisting motion.

To acheive an “S” shape, move your shoulders and your hips back and forth in opposing directions. Swing your back foot repeatedly left to right and self propel your Whiplash Scooter without ever putting your foot on the ground.

    *Always wear appropriate protective gear
    when riding the Whiplash scooter.

How to ride it. Well, if you are young, you put one foot on the board and push off the pavement with the other foot, bringing both feet together on the board while you enjoy a thrilling side-to-side motion as you ride along the sidewalk. If you’re not young, you start out the same, but after bringing both feet together you realize you have no balance whatsoever, you panic, and at the first whiplash movement you fly backward onto the sidewalk, dial 911 for an ambulance and spend at least a week convalescing. I would love to win this – for my granddaughter.

My daughter has been asking for a scooter. The Whiplash looks really neat. To ride it:

Riders can self-propel the scooter so that their feet never touch the ground or ride it like a traditional scooter. Thats a great feature. Thanks for the chance.

While on a slightly downward slope, place foot in the center of the platform and position so that it is level with the ground. Push with your front foot and lean your weight forward. Straighten your body and bend your knees. Immediately after pushing off start the twisting motion. **Always wear protective gear**

When I was a kid I was a real tomboy and I LOVED riding my skateboard and was pretty good. I can still ride my sons’ skateboards today. My son has a ripstick and I, being very confident, attempted to ride it. I learned the hard way that the kids have me beat on this one. I have tried and tried and despite the sprained wrist have been unable to learn to ride it. This is similar to the ripstick, but it has the handle bars. I bet I could ride this one. I hope I win and I can prove to the boys that I am still “cool”.

    1. Place the Whiplash on a slight downward slope.
    2. Push with your front foot and lean
    your weight forward.
    3. Immediately after pushing off,
    start the twisting motion.
