Runny nose, sneezing – the cold and flu season is here. Each year up to 20% of people come down with the flu, with activity peaking in February, according to the CDC. Although Safety 1st can’t help “cure” the flu, but it does have NEW products to help make a parent’s life a little easier when the family is not feeling well.
I had the opportunity to review two new products from Safety 1st both geared toward easing the minds of parents of small children. Taking the temperature of a small child is no small feat, especially if that kiddo isn’t feeling well and doesn’t want to cooperate. The key to temperature taking success in our house is speed. The quicker the thermometer takes a reading, the more likely you are to get an accurate reading.
To help accomplish this the NEW Safety 1st ProGrade VersaScan TALKING Thermometer takes a one-second reading, plus it talks! I used the VersaScan to take the temperature of our whole family. The 4 1/2 month old’s reading took the longest because she is very wiggly, but even that was only 3-4 seconds. It really did read our body temperatures in a few seconds and the pleasant sounding lady stated our temperatures out loud. The human voice read-out option comes in handy, especially when taking a temperature during the night or when holding an upset child. Also, the reading pane is large enough for me to read without my glasses and is backlight with a light green light so you can see the reading pane in a dark or dim room.
In addition to taking our temperatures the VersaScan can also be used to measure object temperatures, like food and bath water. Other great options include: Fever Light™ Ring shows red for high temperatures, 30 memory recall for temperature and time, auto shut-off and low battery indicator. It retails for $39.99.
Christine is our in house baby product reviewer. She has two children that are quite adorable, one is 3 1/2 months old and the other is three and in my son’s preschool class. When she’s not taking maternity leave she works at the local children’s hospital.
