My wedding is in August, which means that this summer has been one of the busiest of my life. With so much to do, I’ve been working around the clock to coordinate the wedding, keep up with the daily grind, and also completely re-organize my attic while clearing out items for a garage sale…you know, just to keep things interesting.
I’ve felt a little out of touch the last month because I haven’t had any downtime to keep up with my usual TV shows, so I have no idea what’s going on. This is how crazy my schedule has been: Keanu Reeves just starred in his first Netflix original, To The Bone, which has been available to stream since July 14th – AND I HAVEN’T SEEN IT YET! I told Jai that this is how he knows it’s true love, since I’ve been too busy planning our wedding to watch the newest Keanu movie. 😉
But as great as it is to get things done, I have the tendency to over-do it, so last night I took the evening off to sit in front of the TV with Jai and stream some of our favorite programs together. Well, we did complete our cake tasting at the same time, so that still counts as wedding planning, right?
And guess what? I have so much more energy today! It’s so easy to get caught up in my to-do list that I forget to recharge my battery and run out of steam without even realizing it. Taking a break helps you refresh and regroup, making it easier to accomplish more – and be happier doing it. And you don’t have to take my personal anecdote for it: 9 out of 10 moms say that sneaking in a little “Me time” helps them in many different ways:
Grabbing a moment for yourself can be difficult, especially with children underfoot. There’s no shame in getting resourceful and sneaking in a little break wherever you can – quite literally. From extra long bathroom breaks to sitting in the parking lot after grocery shopping, moms everywhere are taking the opportunity to have a few minutes of privacy and catch up on the latest episode of Scandal or OITNB. There are many ways that this can be accomplished:
You certainly couldn’t do that before the advent of streaming – can you imagine trying to carry a tube TV into the grocery store back in the ’90s? Technology is so amazing! My little break last night reminded me that I need to slow down every once in a while. Feeling inspired, I decided to put one of my wedding gifts to good use by developing my own recipe for sneaking, which I want to share as inspiration for everyone else out there having a busy summer!
