This month in sports has been an exciting one for Oregon. Our basketball team has been making history for our state in the college basketball playoffs, and just had another fantastic victory this weekend, meaning they’ll be moving on to an exciting game against North Carolina this week.
When there’s an important sports match on TV, Jai and I will grab some food and head over to Grandma’s house to watch the action. Easy meals are a must, so I usually pick up a pizza that I can throw in the oven so that there’s no cooking to worry about. So on Friday, I put on my special basketball jersey that I got while taking in a game at United Center last month, and headed over to our local Papa Murphy’s to get a take and bake pizza in honor of Oregon’s favorite team!
Just like our beloved basketball team, Papa Murphy’s is proud to be a product of Oregon, opening its first store in Hillsboro in 1981. So what better place to cater our pizza party? To add to the fun, Papa Murphy’s is also having a bracket competition of their own this month with the Papa Murphy’s Take ‘n’ Bake Pizza Bracket Sweepstakes!
A mouth-watering variety of pizzas are going head to head to see which one comes out on top as the favorite, as determined by fan votes. Each week, the bracket gets smaller as the favorite pizzas advance in each round. Voting for your favorites also enters you into the sweepstakes for the chance to be one of five lucky winners of pizza for a year – a $1,000 value. Any vote cast now through April 4th enters you into the sweeps, whether your picks win or not. I love contests and I love pizza, so naturally I had to weigh in with my top choices in the pizza bracket. One of my selections was the 5 Meat Stuffed pizza, which certainly sounded like the best pick for my hungry team!
I customized all of the meats that I wanted on my pizza and added some of my other favorite toppings, like artichoke hearts, to create the most epic pizza pie ever. As the server at the store noted, “That’s a hearty pizza!” Everything is freshly made and assembled in the store in front of you to get a pizza that tastes like homemade – without all the work of making it yourself.
All we had to do was toss the pizza in the oven, and it was cooked to perfection in about 20 minutes. Easiest dinner ever!
Oh my gosh, you guys. This was so good! Each thick slice of this double-layer pizza was packed to the gills with meat, meat and more meat. My whole family was raving about it – my hungry fiancé devoured slice after slice, while Grandma said it was so good that she couldn’t stop eating it. Each slice is pretty much a meal in and of itself, and we enjoyed the leftovers all through the weekend as we celebrated our state’s awesome showing in the playoffs. If the guys and gals in your family love meat as much as mine does, this pizza is a slam dunk for sure!
So which pizzas are your pick for the Pizza Bracket? Is your family following the college basketball playoffs?
