You’ve probably guessed by now that I love everything retro. Vintage cookbooks, vintage clothes – and even a vintage home. Our house was built in 1929, and while we made a lot of big changes during our decade (!!!) of major home renovations, we have kept much of the home original. As any homeowner knows, it’s always a work in progress, so we’re always working on small projects to spruce up, improve, and add efficiency.
One simple project that can make a big difference in how your home looks is your door fittings. We’ve been wanting to update the handles and locks on the front and back door for a while now, so when Schlage offered the chance to do a mini-makeover, I thought this would be a convenient time to do it. Schlage have been around for 95 years – even longer than my house! – so they know a thing or two about quality made to last. New for 2015, Schlage are debuting hardware with new finishes in Satin Brass and Polished Nickel, and I thought the Satin Brass in particular would look nice with our existing decor.
Schlage sent us enough hardware to change our all the doorknobs in the whole house, so everything can match – which it so rarely does in old houses. 😉 Now, in 99% of homes, changing out door handles is a ten minute project that requires no special know-how – which makes it an awesome DIY project to dip your toes in the water, since you can make a big improvement to your room’s appearance with minimal work! Now, for a home like ours that has its original doors, it’s a little more involved since we have to update the doors to accommodate modern fittings. We’ve been meaning to do this for a while, so it’ll be nice to get this taken care of! It’s looking awesome so far:

I’ll be sharing more of our makeover once it’s finished, so stay tuned! And in the meantime, be sure to follow the Schlage Blog and social channels on Pinterest, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter for more DIY inspiration!

I started once and was going to replace all our gold bronze colored inside door knobs with silver knobs, I purchased a couple but it got too expensive. Getting new hardware for all the doors in the house would be so nice because I live in an older house and the door knobs just look horrible. These would make my whole house looked more updated.
