You know, I began my entertainment career at the same time I first met Walter. My conversation with Walter was very brief at that time, he was still shy and just really excited to be working with his idol Kermit. Wow, how the time flies. This photo was taken January 2011 when I also first met Kermit and Miss Piggy.
As I said, back then Walter was small time so we didn’t have a lot of time with him, now that it’s 3 years later, Walter had his own interview session and was posing for photos.
He hasn’t aged a day he looks amazing and he’s just as heartfelt as always. He loves getting to work with the other Muppets it makes him so happy, he even said:
“Oh, my gosh. I promised myself I wouldn’t do that. It’s very nice. It’s incredible. I mean like gosh, yeah, it’s great. Now it’s a little while later. We bonded and, uh, it’s incredible. I just said this the other day to somebody. I just keep pinching myself. That’s why I have long sleeves all the time. So You can’t see the bruises.”
So for the interview it starts out with the question of what happens to him in this new movie.
Q : What happens with Walter?
WALTER : What happens with Walter? Well, he does a lot of his own stunts. Yeah, I do some pretty exciting stunts and I’m thrilled with my role in this film. I’ve got this big, dramatic turn. You see where I make a discovery and I have to rescue Kermit and I jump from a moving train into another moving train going the opposite direction.
Q. So No stunt doubles?
WALTER : No, mam no stunt doubles. I mean, you know, Gonzo really wanted to do it and he had some good advice for me that unfortunately made it a little more painful but he seemed happy.
Q : What was the advice?
WALTER : What was the advice? Well he’s just like just really throw yourself and try not to miss. Although if you miss it’s better experience apparently but Jake, our director, didn’t like that. Although, you know, I would have been happy just bringing water to the guys. You know, I’m just, you know, I mean there’s no guarantee that you get to do another movie and yet here I am. Kind of happy, yeah.
Q: How is your relationship with Miss Piggy?
Walter: Hi, ho everybody, yah. Thank you, thank you. I do Miss Piggy too. Me, me, me, me. You coffee boy, give me some coffee. That’s my Miss Piggy. She still doesn’t know who I am and Peppy calls me Howard for some reason.
Q : Any song and dance numbers in the new movie?
WALTER : Oh, oh my gosh the music in this film is incredible. I don’t actually have my own song in this one but I do sing on a couple of the numbers. Brit McKenzie did the music again and oh, it’s incredible. It’s so good and there’s action too. This whole thing is like an action musical. It’s an actioncal. It’s a musaction. Yeah, the music is just — he’s topped himself. He really has. Very happy to see that. Great lyrics and yeah, I do get to sing and dance but not as much as the last film because, you know, you wanna see new stuff. But the Muppets are really zany in this one. It’s really classic.
ME: He goes on to talk about how he likes working with each of the other characters, you know Muppets and actors alike. I get the idea that Walter is very easy to work with. So now I had to know, what advice he would give to children to follow their dreams.
WALTER : To follow their dreams. No, yeah, I mean it’s like Kermit always says. You know, life’s like a movie. Write your own ending. Keep believing. It’s in a song somewhere isn’t it? Yeah, no totally. I mean when I was a kid sometimes I’d always see grownups go into work and you know, griping about their job and as a kid, you know, you see things, you oversimplify things. And I thought as a kid well if you’re grumpy and unhappy why are you going?
You don’t know about things like mortgages and paying bills and taking care of things. so when I was a kid I thought well, what would I like to do so when I go to work as a grownup I can be like yeah, I’m going to work and, uh, and I discovered the Muppets. That’s the advice I’d give to kids I guess as far as following your dreams. Figure out what makes them happy and figure out a way to do that for your life. Wow, it got deep. Holy smokes. I didn’t see that coming.
