I attended a press day for the movie Mr. Peabody. All expenses travel and accommodations were covered. There I learned about the coming movie Mr. Peabody and Sherman.
Mr. Peabody and Sherman is old school entertainment brought back with an amazing look created with CGI. I was very impressed with how far animation technology has come and how it still has such a fun childlike feel to it. Mr. Peabody is the most intelligent being on the planet and surprisingly he’s a dog. This dog has adopted a son named Sherman and he’s a boy. Together they created the first “modern family” which is ironic since Ty Burrell, one of the stars from Modern Family plays Mr. Peabody. Sherman is played by Max Charles –The Amazing Spiderman. The other actors are Ariel Winter, Stephen Colbert, Leslie Mann, Patrick Warburton, Stanley Tucci, Allison Janney, Lake Bell, Zach Callison, Dennis Haysbert
In the movie Mr. Peabody has created the WABAC (pronounced way back) machine which is a time machine that he and Sherman use to travel and observe history. Sherman being a little boy finds out that there is this little girl that he likes and they get along until he tells her she’s wrong about one of her historical facts. But when Sherman takes The WABAC out for a joyride to impress his friend Penny, they accidently rip a hole in the universe, wreaking havoc on the most important events in world history. Before they forever alter the past, present and future, Mr. Peabody must come to their rescue, ultimately facing the most daunting challenge of any era: figuring out how to be a parent. Together, the time traveling trio will make their mark on history.
While on the set I was able to see some snippets from the movie, it’s not yet done and doesn’t come out until March 7, 2014. But like I said it looks amazing, it’s going to come out in 3D, and it’s super fun. The humor is even greater because when Mr. Peabody makes a joke, Sherman sometimes says, I don’t get it. The humor is for adults and children and yeah, your children aren’t going to get all of it. You might want to brush up on your world history because Mr. Peabody and Sherman visit quite a few different events in time.
A big thank you to 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks Animation for the press studio visit.
