So you know how you get stuck in a routine of the same old dinners, made the same way, week after week and month after month? Then when you do decide to do something different you see in the recipe it calls for an eight of a teaspoon of some random spice like “cardamom” or “all spice”. Now I do bake and cook from scratch a lot, so I do have a few different kinds of spices, but I don’t have EVERY spice. And it always seems that one I need is the one I don’t have. If I do have some foresight to plan ahead and go to the store for a bottle it can be quite expensive, especially when I only need a bit, and then the bottle will sit in my cupboard for years. Then eventually I’ll throw it out because I don’t know what else to do with it, especially if no one liked the recipe I bought it to use with in the first place.
So now…. Along comes RawSpiceBar. They send you monthly packets of spices. Exactly the right amount of spice you will need for a recipe they provide – no guessing and awkward measuring, and no tons of bottles to search through to find the right spice. The recipes I received were for a cabbage dish, chicken schnitzel and pretzels. I have never attempted making a schnitzel before but the instructions were clear and short. It included a preparation time, a cook time and number of servings – very straight forward. Something a lot of us doing the dinner cooking appreciate.
My experience with the chicken schnitzel, I made it gluten free (I used GF flour and bread crumbs). It was really yummy. My hubby said I should make it again, so that’s always a good sign.
With the cabbage, I got distracted and let the spice get a little too toasty, but you could still taste the spice and they were yummy as well.
You can subscribe to monthly kits, for varying durations. These spices have no added salt, sugar, or other additives. Hope you find something you like!
