By Ashley:
Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror after you got a new haircut and had to do a double-take? Well that is exactly how I felt last weekend! I wasn’t looking at my hair though… I was looking at my hands! I am not kidding at all when I tell you that I literally kept glancing at my hands and saying “Whoa! Those are my hands?!?” I guess I should back up so that this makes a little more sense…
Last weekend I was SO EXCITED to be a part of the Mirror Mirror press screening in Santa Monica, CA. I had never been to Santa Monica before so when this opportunity came up, I was ready. Not to mention, Mirror Mirror was a movie that I was really excited to see! The movie did not disappoint and the weekend that Relativity Media set up for us was incredible. I’ll have more on the movie coming soon, but for now, let me get back to why my hands kept surprising me!
On Saturday, all of the writers were scheduled for “a day fit for a princess” and boy oh boy was it! There was a traveling spa set up to do hair, nails, and make-up! I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a traveling spa?!? Well, hair and nails are not something that I spend much time on in my daily life (I’m sure most of you can relate to that!). In fact, my fingernails usually have some weird irregular lengths, no polish (much less color!), I don’t think filing is something you do unless you have fake nails, and I absolutely can NOT paint my fingernails! I don’t know why. Toes? No problem. Fingers? You’d think that my (almost) 2 year old son did it. So, when I had the chance to have a manicure, I was all in. I even took a big risk (for me…) and chose a purpley pink color! I honestly don’t think I’d had a color on my fingernails in 9 or 10 years before that!
Anyway, it was an amazing weekend and really made me think about what it is that makes us as women feel more confidant. No, painted fingernails and fancy blown out hair shouldn’t be what we hold our value in, BUT as moms on the go, busy taking care of everyone else, sometimes it’s important to do something for yourself… like put some purpley pink polish on! (Or in my case, have someone put it on for you or it would completely defeat the purpose!) Getting up and at ‘em in the morning helps me feel better, more like a “real person!” So… Mirror Mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all? All of the moms with spit up on their shoulders, spilled milk on their floors, peanut butter wiped on their jeans.
We are definitely the fairest in the land! That’s why it’s important to let yourself feel like a princess for a day every now and then. Maybe it’s just a hot bath on your own, picking up a new shirt, getting a new do, or a new polish color for your fingers (or toes). Do something for yourself today! We want to be like Princess Snow, not the evil Queen!
Mirror Mirror comes out March 30th.
Travel and expenses were covered by Relativity Media for the Press Day.
