Just over three years ago, Disney provided hotel and transportation for us to attend the Ant-Man press junket where we interviewed Michael Douglas for the first time. I thought it was a big deal then and never realized I would actually get to interview this man more than once. I should have realized that Ant-Man and the Wasp was going to get a sequel and that he would be in it. And that time has come, today in theaters you can see Ant-Man and the Wasp and see Michael Douglas even younger than he was in the movie Ant-Man.
At the time that we interviewed Michael Douglas for Ant-Man and the Wasp, he hadn’t had time to see the movie yet. However, he was very excited about it, mentioned that the public responses to the movie were great so far and that the director Peyton Reed was “Beaming”. He also talked to us about the Ant-Man And The Wasp Cast.
Ant-Man And The Wasp Cast
Michael Douglas enjoyed making the sequel, he said that reuniting with the cast is relaxing and that there is a comfort factor in it. Everyone knows your sense of humor he said and then you know you won’t offend anybody.
On Paul Rudd
He said that Paul is just a sweetheart.
He’s just a great, great guy so it sets the tone. You know, most of my career I’ve been number one on a call sheet, the lead, and so to be in a supporting role in a picture like this, you watch how he does it, you assume a lot of responsibility. If you’re smart, if you’re the first, you set the tone. You’re the first one on the set, you make everybody else comfortable to make their best performances possible. I mean that’s just all part of the thing. So, that part was great with Paul.
He also talked about how Paul ad libs a lot and that he was slightly jealous of him. Michael had to research his lines so he would know what he was talking about and Paul could just walk in with this one liner and steal the scene. Sometimes, what Paul would say would even crack everyone up.
But what I was looking at her when she was doing the scene, I saw Evangeline going I’m going to be a superhero. I could see her. So, she’s–, she’s loaded, you know. She was, you know, ready to go and excited. So, that part was all nice as far as with them. And then, you know, then you get that wonderful thing of Marvel does a great job of casting, obviously.
On Michelle Pfeiffer
He said that Michelle was just a treat.
I mean tremendous Michelle Pfeiffer fan. Never imagined ever getting a chance to work with her. Needless to say, to play 30 years younger. So, that was great.
On Laurence Fishburne
He called Laurence, Larry and said that Larry Fishburne is quite an actor.
On Hannah John-Kamen
He said everyone was talking about her.
And then this young lady who I think you’ll be hearing a lot about is Hannah–, Hannah John-Kamen, who came out of, I mean, they were all talking about her almost like it was a sports team. We have this great rookie, this girl, she’s fantastic. And she really is. She’s wonderful.
Michael Douglas gets to be part of major action in Ant-Man and the Wasp. He even puts on a suit, a super hero suit. during our interview he said he wouldn’t mind putting it on again and wouldn’t mind getting back there again. If you go back and re-read our first interview with Michael Douglas, I believe we talked a little bit about how they made him look younger. In this interview he talked about how it cracks him up every time to see what they did to him.
There are parts of the interview that have a little bit of a spoiler in it so I’m going to just say he wouldn’t tell us anything about future movies. He refused to tell us about the next Avenger’s film. And that if he did open his mouth a blowgun would come out.
He also shared a few things that were a little more on the personal side. He said that his son told him that being in these movies would be huge for his career. He would love to work with Jack Nicholson. He said they are actually “dear old friends”. He also talked about some of his older movies. He was asked which one would he like to be most remembered for?
He said, Romancing the Stone, The China Syndrome, Black Rain, War of the Roses, Fatal Attraction and Wall Street. He also liked a picture called Wonder Boys. What you have to know about Michael Douglas is that he is amazingly talented and extremely professional and you can feel it all while he’s in the same room with you.
