When I was 8 years old, The little Mermaid came out and I was instantly in love. I had The Little Mermaid T-shirts, The Little Mermaid artwork, and The Little Mermaid on VHS as soon as was humanly possible. I knew every word to every song. I could recite the entire movie, I even watched The Little Mermaid so many times I wore out my VHS. Remember when you could wear out a VHS?

A few months ago, I got to sit down with Mark Henn, the artist who made that amazing hair. Yes, he animated Ariel. He taught us how to draw The Little Mermaid. He also told us a bunch of funny stories about the process of creating her. I showed this video of him to my web design class one day. Only one of my students was paying attention because he asked if what I was showing was actually appropriate for class.
