Too often we are talking bad about people behind their backs. I hate to admit the reality of it, but yes I’m a guilty party as well. I hate that about myself, when my human nature gets the best of me I always feel guilty later and want to go and apologize, because even though that particular person had no idea I was talking about them. I know, and it was a decimation of their character. Which is wrong!
Today, aggressive behavior and bullying among teen girls has become a mainstay, it’s not even behind girl’s backs anymore. Could it be that we’re not being very good examples as adult? Are we subconsciously telling our kids it’s ok? Well join me in my attempt to STOP IT ok! I’m going to try very hard to keep my mouth shut when I’m thinking something negative about someone else because being mean stinks! I want my kids to grow up knowing how to be kind to others. I know people that have been hurt so terribly by others that they dropped out of school and this behavior, the bullying, name calling, fighting has to stop!
Secret has always been a brand about celebrating fearless women. The launch of the Mean Stinks program continues that strong heritage aiming to alleviate the aggressive behavior and bullying epidemic by giving girls the skills, courage and confidence to be nice. But parents we have to help!
Think about someone you saw or thought about during the day and talk nicely about them in front of your children. Give your children positive thoughts about themselves. Encourage them to be fearless and face each day with a smile and positive attitude. I know my daughter Zoe is only 4 years old right now, but we are constantly trying to encourage her to be a nice sister and friend. We’re trying to show her to show love and support instead of anger and fear. She’s an amazing little girl and I hope to continue to be a good example.
Another way you can start spreading the kindness, is on-line. Secret is encouraging you to leave kind messages on other’s Facebook pages like graffiti! Like the Facebook Page, Mean Stinks, link to the page, write a nice message about someone on the wall, or write on a friends’ wall. Send some love to a friend today virtually or in real life, lifting someone’s spirit will do wonders for your own.
I received a gift basket of products from Secret in exchange for this post.
I’m with you! Mean definitely stinks!
Thanks for being such a good friend 🙂
I couldn’t agree more! I hate when people talk junk about each other, and wish more people would lift people up when they are not around. Just like rumors goodness spreads as well!
This is an awesome program. It’s nice to see big companies helping out like this. I liked the FB page!
