Tony Bancroft and his brother Tom Bancroft talked about how much they enjoyed working on Mulan together with us during our most recent trip to LA. We sat down with them, well they didn’t sit, they drew characters from Mulan and Lion King while they talked about how much they love animation. Did you know the identical twin brothers have been in the animation business for over 30 years? Wow that’s over 60 years worth of experience right there.
I giggle a little bit when I think of how Zoe and Miles draw on each other’s artwork, and how sometimes it doesn’t go over well. The brothers said that yeah, they get irritated with each other but realize that they are just trying to help each other make the project the best it can be. They have worked on Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Emperor’s New Groove
While they talked they shared lots of interesting stories about themselves and working on Mulan. They even shared a few “hidden mickeys” The likenesses of the directors Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook appear as the firework attendants are frightened by Mushu in the climax. Plus there are a lot of other hidden Mickeys that you can find while watching the movie. I sat down and watched it with my kids and kept looking and looking and started to feel like there were Mickeys in places they weren’t really there. You should try it, get the Blu-ray Special edition of Mulan and check it out for yourself and celebrate the 15th anniversary of Disney’s critically-acclaimed masterpiece.
They were kind enough to create a piece of original art for all 25 of the mommy bloggers on this press junket. Then they even signed them. On each drawing was Mushu and Cricket.
You can also color your favorite characters from Mulan. Download Mulan Coloring sheets here: http://www.di.sn/mulan.
The Press Junket was covered by Disney all travel expenses were taken care of.
