This year, according to a recent study by the National Retail Foundation, a record number of people will be celebrating the haunted holiday by passing out candy, trick-or-treating, attending Halloween parties, and more (a total of nearly 170 million people- or 7 out of 10 Americans).
With more people on the streets and sidewalks than ever before, it is important that children and adults alike be aware of proper traffic safety procedures. To help families stay safe this Halloween and beyond, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Ludorum, the creators of the hit television series Chuggington, have partnered to create a children’s traffic safety campaign that introduces pedestrian safety in an easy-to-teach, easy-to-comprehend way. The ‘Think Safe, Ride Safe, Be Safe!’ campaign includes important pedestrian safety tips for parents and children you may find valuable as you head out on the hunt for candy this season. Here are a few important tips from the campaign to keep in mind:
This Halloween…
· Walk on the sidewalk
· If there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic
· Use a crosswalk if you can to cross the street
· When crossing the street, look left-right-left for cars, and continue to keep looking for cars as you cross
