Do you know who Dottie is? In the new upcoming movie Planes out August 9th in theaters, Dottie is Dusty’s care taker. She’s a spunky character played by Teri Hatcher. She’s actually a car, she’s like the pit crew that Guido was in the Cars movies. Dottie’s job is to repair Dusty whenever he needs repairs. Dusty is actually a crop dusting plane that wants to be fast but he’s not exactly built for speed and in the scene where I play Dottie, that’s what we’re talking about. Dottie tells Dusty he should not be racing.

It’s actually a lot harder than it looks to do a voice over when it’s already recorded and animated. You have to really get the timing of the lines correct. I’ve done this quite a few times so I only did one take and said I was done. It’s not perfect but it’s still ok. They have quite a large booth where they can record you over and over again and take some from two different recordings to get the perfect track.
When they are recording the professional actors, they spend the whole day, or just an hour, depends on what’s in the books for the booth, in the booth and do their lines over and over again. They usually do like one line at a time and do different voice inflections, the slightest variation could change the meaning of the line. While we were watching the actors deliver their lines, we were able to see how they just say their line over and over again until they get to move on to the next line.
One thing that I thought was fun while doing our recordings was that we got to do the marker for the recording. We weren’t given a fancy marker to slap together, instead we had to use our hands and do a slap. I thought it was fun.
