I had Beverly Hills Kitchen Beef Bourguignon for lunch and my kids ate it #giveaway

October 13, 2009 by Momstart 425 Comments

beef The Beverly Hills Kitchen was created Alex Hitz whose life-long passion for cooking and hosting elaborate parties for his famous friends, inspired him to start a chef-prepared food line that combines restaurant-quality cuisine with the ease and intimacy of at-home dining. For those super busy families who love fine dining, but lack the time or skills to cook delicious, classic dinners such as beef bourguignon, The Beverly Hills Kitchen’s entrees are designed for convenience— frozen and ready in ten minutes.

I am always looking for ways to get my children to eat beef and protein. I just don’t know how to get it into their tummies. They look at me and the food and say “all done”. I was positive they wouldn’t eat this but figured it was a free sample and I should make it for lunch. I needed to review it anyways. So, I boiled some water and put the frozen pouch in it and let it heat up for 10 minutes and served it over bread. It might be gourmet but it didn’t look like it from my end. Tasted like it though, I was trying to concentrate on the different flavors but it’s hard when you are sick. I thought I tasted some cinnamon with a little bit of a kick. Hard to say though, my taste buds are out of whack.

All I know is that my kids at enough of it to surprise me. They didn’t eat it all but much more than I expected.

The Beverly Hills Kitchen’s Beef Bourguignon includes five 8oz. portions of prime tender meat, simmered for four hours in a full-bodied red wine sauce with carrots, mushrooms, tomatoes, garlic, shallots, basil and Dijon mustard. Paired with rice, pasta, potatoes, a simple salad, or just on its own, this classic French comfort dish is a restaurant meal on-scale with the finest Parisian dining in the comfort of your own home.

The Beverly Hills Kitchen Beef Bourguignon is currently available on QVC for $45 throughout the month of October. Other flavors to look forward to are:

New Orleans style Bread Pudding;

Shrimp and Grits;

Sirloin and Potato Pie;

Salmon Pot Pie;

and Lemon and Ginger Bars

    I sometimes go online and get a complicated recipe. To me, cooking fancy is cooking something that takes effort, and where I have to buy special ingredients, like the Enchilada Pie I made last night.

    I don’t really cook fancy. We go out to eat for that. But I guess the fanciest I ever got was cooking 4 different dishes for a dinner (I’m more of a 1-dish-meal type of gal).

    My cooking fancy normally is either following a “fancy” recipe or doing a nice steak dinner and bringing out the nice china and wine glasses! 🙂

    I can’t think of how we cook fancy but if we want the feel of a whole dollar restaurant, we put small portions on a big plate and pretty it up with garnish. Then we light the candles and watch DVR by candlelight. Dinner and a movie.

    i don’t really cook fancy like frou frou foods. I do cook big meals and lots of baking desserts etc. I cook more home classic type meals…like tonight we had porcupine meatballs, mashed potatoes, brown sugar carrots, lemon broccoli for dinner

    I don’t, generally, but now and then I will get more exotic foods at the market to dress up our dinners. I do like to cook some beef dishes with red wine, but that’s not what I would call fancy.

    I have a few “fancy go-to” menus. Most of the time, they’re very formal and deeply ethnic, but with a twist…like maybe served with the good china, crystal, silver and linens…under a tree in the back yard, picnic style. It’s several days worth of work, but since I don’t do it more than once a year, I think it’s great fun.

    The way I cook “fancy” is to cook a large meal with more than one entree/many dishes and several desserts, trying to cook them ahead several days or freeze in advance so I am not worn out trying to do them all at once on the same day. Fortunately, I only do this on rare occasions during the year, mostly for holidays.

    When I cook fancy, I usually try a new receipe that I printed off the web that looked good, like something I want to try. I also like to make the meal and atmosphere appealing by how it is presented on the plate and putting flowers on the table and setting the table in a decorative way.

    For me, “cooking fancy” usually means cooking with wine and other ingredients not used on a day to day basis. Some recipes are changed dramatically from “good” to “great” by the simple addition of wine or sour cream or some exotic herb or spice.

    It’s possible to cook fancy by keeping things simple. Frantoia Barbera Extra Virgin Olive Oil is my favorite olive oil for cooking anything. A good bottle of wine also makes almost any casual meal a fancy one.

    ACK! Cook fancy? Cook at all? I’d have been banished from the tribe back when the females did little but gather berries and cook all day.

    I “cook” fancy by visiting my nearest “gourmet” deli counter and filling out order forms for their most delectable entrees, sides, and platters. Desserts I order from the best available bakeries.

    Dining out works, too.

    Wow, your kids ate it. Must be very special. I want, I want! Thank you for the GREAT giveaway!

    How do I cook Fancy? I wear my high heels,perhaps maybe my little black dress or an off the shoulder gown. If I know that I will need to get something out of the oven than I will wear my long-sleeve gloves. Probably top it off with my drop earrings and my Grandmothers brooch. Just Kidding!…. “Fancy” these days to us just means something besides the usual Grub. But back in the day (Sigh) I could Flambe’ with the best of ’em!

    I just started cooking fancy a little more often. I hate normal cooking because I like the meal to be an event. Cooking fancy takes time and energy, which are two things I mostly lack. However, I’m getting there. I pick a couple of recipes from one of my 75 cook books (for real) and have at it.

    To me cooking fancy is having all the extras from appetizers, a special salad, accompanying vegetables, hot rolls or other specialty bread and a dessert. The meal itself doesn’t have to be fancy but the extras make it special.
