Bunnies are in! My son received two bunnies and was able to see an early screening of Hop on his birthday. Hop brings state of the art animation to live action, and the combination of the two works quite well. Hop is a comedy definitely geared to children and all that love the Easter Bunny and candy. E.B. (Russell Brand) is the teenage son of none other than the Easter Bunny. He is to carry out the long tradition of carrying the title and responsibilities of generations of bunnies before him. However, all E.B. wants to do is play the drums and be famous and live a life of luxury without any work. Does that sound familiar?
Fred (James Marsden) is the human equivalent. Fred has no idea what responsibility is and is kicked out of his own house (more like his parent’s house) when we runs into, and I mean literally runs into E.B. Fred hit E.B. with a car, and E.B. plays it up like he’s really injured, even though he’s not. E.B. manipulates Fred and Fred falls for it allowing the bunny to provide a window into his own life.
While Fred is trying to get his life in order, he realizes what it means to actually do something for someone else. At first, he tries to help E.B. just to get rid of E.B. But then he ends up saving all of Easter Island saving Easter as we know it. Somewhere in the middle of the movie is a cameo by David Hasselhoff and I just can’t figure out what the big deal is about this man. It’s the second movie I’ve seen this year with him in it. (just a side note from me)???
Hop really made my kids excited about Easter Coming. They are ready to decorate eggs and get some Easter Candy. We found the movie to be very colorful and laugh out loud funny. Miles and Zoe were smiling and we all laughed a lot. The movie is not to be taken seriously at all. The ending is WAY over the top, there is no way a situation like this would end like that, but like I said, it’s not to be taken seriously, I mean it’s a movie about the Easter Bunny (not what Easter really is about). So go have fun, laugh and don’t’ take the movie seriously just have fun!
