Homedics Restore Clean Water System Review

October 24, 2009 by Momstart 5 Comments

I love water and wish I drank it more often. That was what I was saying three weeks ago when I started going to the doctor for my pelvic prolapse. I was embarrassed by the question, how much water are you drinking and my response was not enough.

I am a water snob and if it’s not good I won’t drink it. I think it was this summer when I spent a month with my Dad in Texas where I stopped drinking water. He has lake water, Lake Texoma water and it is disgusting. My children hated it too but they know better and didn’t have the option that I had. I started drinking soda and I know that soda is awful to be drinking in place of water. For quite a few reasons.

It’s sugar and full of calories

It makes you thirstier

It rots your teeth and stains them at the same time

HoMedics contacted me and asked me to review their water system. The Homedics Restore Clean Water System.

The Restore Clean Water System uses the germ-killing benefits of UVC light; they developed Restore®, a complete water purification system in an easy to use pitcher. Restore combines UV Clean technology to remove bacteria, viruses and microbial cysts with a filtration system to reduce heavy metals, chlorine (taste and odor), and some industrial and agricultural pollutants and it terrifies me.

UV is dangerous and there are no warnings on this thing so I’m hoping that it really is safe to use. I suppose they would be required to list the warnings. I mean, the light is super bright. Wait, there was one warning about making sure that the spout is covered during purification and that the light needs to be disposed of properly because it has mercury in it.

My husband isn’t impressed, my daughter loves that the light looks purple while it is purifying and I’m just afraid of it. I know and trust that it works because our Sonicare toothbrush also uses UV technology to sanitize our brush heads everything. There is just something about drinking it.

From the Homedics website –

Revolutionary Dual Process System

Step 1: Filtration
Reduces heavy metals, chlorine (taste and odor) and some industrial and agricultural pollutants.

Step 2: Purification
Breakthrough UV Clean Technology purifies and removes:
99.9999% of bacteria, 99.99% of viruses, and 99.95% of microbial cysts

Restore is a breakthrough solution:
-With state-of-the-art technology comparable to many installed systems with none of the hassle.
-Unlike leading brands of water filtration pitchers such as Brita and PUR, Restore takes clean water to a new level by removing bacteria and viruses.*
-Delivering cleaner, great-tasting water right from the tap, Restore water is cheaper than bottled water.
Certified Performance
California certified for microbiological water purification, a first for a water pitcher utilizing UV technology, and Gold Seal Certified to NSF standards by the Water Quality Association.
BPA Free
System Includes:
8 cup capacity pitcher with built-in UV lamp, replaceable filter, 1 power adaptor

Contaminants mentioned may not be in all user’s water. See product performance data sheet for details.*Based on manufacturer packaging claims and scientific analysis.

This filtration system has a filter that needs to be replaced, but you can find the filers for only $7.99.  The unit itself is listed for the suggested retail value of $99.99. To find out more, or hear about money saving deals check out their Twitter and Facebook.
