It’s been a long-standing tradition in my group of friends to have a regular girls’ movie night. We’ve been doing this since we were teenagers, and although time is more scarce now that we’re entering our thirties, we still make time to get together and watch a flick whenever we can. So when I had the chance to plan a special night at the movies with my girlfriends to watch an advance screening of Bridget Jones’s Baby, we were all excited!
If you’ve ever been to one of my get-togethers, you’ll know that it wouldn’t be complete without fun party favors – so I was excited to put together special Bridget Jones goodie bags for my friends including all the pampering essentials you’d want for a girlie gathering!
Since my friends and I live on the Oregon coast, we made a day of it and planned a fun roadtrip into Portland to watch the movie at Century Clackamas Theaters. We stopped for some iced coffees to fuel up on our way out of town, hopped in the car, blasted Lady Gaga on the stereo and had a great time catching up on the latest news as we made our way up to PDX.
Once we got into town, we stopped to do a little shopping and get teriyaki bowls for dinner, then headed into Century Clackamas Theaters to watch the film!
Bridget Jones’s Baby is the much-anticipated third installment in the series that fans have waited over a decade to see. Our heroine Bridget (Renée Zellweger) finds herself in a completely different spot that she expected to be ten years ago – as I think many of us can relate to!
Now in her forties, she has split from Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth) after her happily ever after went south. Determined to make a change – “No! Must not keep making the same mistakes! Must make new ones!” – Bridget focuses on her career, friends, and embarks on new challenges and adventures. During an impromptu weekend getaway, Bridget meets a new man named Jack (Patrick Dempsey), an American who is the polar opposite of Mr. Darcy. Bridget unexpectedly finds herself expecting, and there’s one little problem…she is only fifty percent sure who the father is. Which path will she choose? Who is the father? You’ll just have to watch and find out!
Our group of girlfriends varied from my BFF, who has been a fan of the series since the first movie came out, to my cousin, who had never seen a Bridget Jones movie before. All of us loved the film and thought it was hilarious! It’s a big challenge to pick up a beloved series after 10+ years, and this movie does a fantastic job. It holds its own as an equal to the first two installments, and was still just as entertaining to those who were unfamiliar with the series. Bridget is as relatable as ever as she deals with new problems and life milestones, and her misadventures got big laughs from all of us. The only thing our group was torn on was whether we were Team Darcy, or Team Jack!
After the movie ended, we stopped to grab snacks and gas for the trip home, and made our way back down the coast. I can’t think of a better girl’s night flick to watch than Bridget Jones’s Baby – we all had so much fun!
