Disney provided us with hotel and transportation to LA for the Solo Press Junket and red carpet, while we were there we squeezed in a set visit to the amazing General Hospital. General Hospital is celebrating it’s 55th year of being on the air and in this day and age for a soap opera, that’s an amazing feet. My favorite soaps are no longer on the air so General Hospital must have figured out the right formula for entertaining it’s fans over the years.
And, you may not remember, but this is my second visit to General Hospital. We did a General Hospital Nurses Ball Fashion ABCTVEvent blog post, and our On The Set of General Hospital #ABCTVEVENT #GH. The bloggers had a blast taking photos then and now.
On the Set of General Hospital
It was so fun going from room to room and playing with the props and sitting on the set. We all pretended to be in court and it looks like the defendant was found guilty.
We tried to get a drink at the bar but it tuned into a fight over the boy next door.
Then I just needed a break on the couch.
Interview with Executive Producer Frank Valentini and Joshua Swickard
For a soap opera we learned that the budget is small and everything must happen quickly. They shoot a few weeks out to stay ahead and they only take about 2 months off a year.
We asked Josh how he ended up on stage performing for the General Hospital Nurses Ball dancing an entire number?
“I think I was in the middle of a scene on my first or second week,” he said. “And I’m terrified because I’m just new to the show. Frank comes by and says, ‘Hey, do you sing?’ and I was like yeah, and he said, ‘Okay, cool.’ And then I was like, huh? It was one of those moments.”
Frank said that in the beginning the budget for the Nurses Ball was quite small but the budget for this particular yearly event has increased over the years and they do have to spend more time on each scene for it. The actors though, they have to come in on the weekends to learn their routines so they are ready to film. It’s always a quick turn around with everything they do. They have to learn their script in less than 7 days.
Tune in for the Nurse’s Ball Episode
“General Hospital”’s annual Nurses Ball, this year sponsored by Olay, returns WEDNESDAY, MAY 16, and airs through MONDAY MAY 21. Founded in 1994 by Port Charles resident Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring), the Nurses Ball is one of fictional Port Charles’ most glamorous charity events, dedicated to HIV/AIDS awareness and research. This year, celebrity guest appearances include “The Chew”’s Carla Hall and “The Bachelor”’s Nick Viall. In her debut performance, Hall takes on an infamous role decades in the making; while Viall joins Aurora media maven Nina Clay (Michelle Stafford) on the red carpet, as they welcome viewers into what promises to be a memorable night. From Sam McCall’s (Kelly Monaco) stunning arrival to Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) unwavering support and Jason Morgan’s (Steve Burton) tireless search for answers, as well as never-before-seen musical performances and a surprise proposal, the Nurses Ball promises to be this year’s can’t-miss event.
We had a sneek peak at this episode and all I can say is YUMMY!
