ABC has a new comedy this year and it’s really funny with a great cast of characters.
The series stars Taran Killam as Will Cooper, Leighton Meester as Angie D’Amato, Kimrie Lewis as Poppy Banks, Jake Choi as Miggy Park, Marlow Barkley as Sophie Cooper, Tyler Wladis as Graham D’Amato, Devin Trey Campbell as Rory Banks, Mia Allan as Emma Fogerty, Ella Allan as Amy Fogerty and Brad Garrett as Douglas Fogerty. Rebecca Creskoff guest stars as Big Red.
On my last visit to LA I got to walk a LOT of the set of Single Parents. You see, because Single Parents has so many kids in the cast, the set has to be really close and easily changeable. Children have very short working hours because they have to also fit in school during their work day. So they do quite a bit of magic and work very quickly and closely to get as much as they can out of those hours. And executive producer, Jason Winer says they have a lot of fun doing it. He also mentioned that they “cross shoot” to film.
The cameras are firing both directions at once, and it requires the actors blocking to be really specific. Otherwise, you’ll see the other camera. And, again, that’s another way that we trust the kids. They can handle it. We’re saying like, you literally can’t move an inch that way. And they get it, you know what I mean? They’re amazing like that.
Not only did we get to talk to the executive producer, but we also got to chat with Jake Choi who is in love with the twins that play baby Jack. He walked on a lot of the tour with us. Which was really cool. he was a great guy to hang out with.
Another really interesting thing we learned is that certain rooms get re-dressed to be other people’s rooms. Will and Angie’s entire houses are the same set. They just switch them out as needed. Here are a few more photos I have from our set visit.
