This is my third week on Medifast, and I have to say, it’s so nice to have this routine! Not having to worry about cooking frees my mental energy and time up to focus on other things. The food itself is flexible to whatever I’m doing or in the mood for – for example, if I wake up and I’m not that hungry, I can drink a quick shake; or if I’m ready for a heartier breakfast, I can make a bowl of oatmeal instead. This way, I have what I need on hand exactly when I need it.
Having my food taken care of for me gives me so much freedom. With everything going on in my hectic life, my time is precious, and I have things I’d much rather be doing than cooking freezer meals or trying to figure out “Macros” on my food. Fortunately, having my food ready to go gives me time to work on other, much more rewarding areas of health and fitness.
As I mentioned last week, I have been training for my first ever 5k race which I completed last Sunday. The Run on the River race took place in Astoria, Oregon, with the race route going across the beautiful waterfront and under the famous Astoria-Megler Bridge. I’ve never done track or competed in any sort of race before, so this was a brand new adventure!

My goal for this race was modest: I wanted simply to complete it. I joked that I didn’t mind if I came in dead last, so long as I just did it! Amazingly, I did much better than I had anticipated. I completed the race in 32:06, with my pace clocking in at 10:20 – my personal best. I came in 5th for my age division and 17th overall, which I was so proud of because it was so unexpected. I started the race off strong thanks to the excitement of being surrounded by other runners, but I had expected everyone behind me to start pulling ahead and leave me in the dust. As I got about halfway through the run, I realized I was still further ahead, so I just continued to keep my pace up to see how well I could do. It felt amazing to exceed my personal goal!
After the race was through, we enjoyed a celebratory lunch, and no amount of Astoria rain could dampen my excitement and happiness at the milestone, and how inspired I was by the other women who competed and excelled. I have already signed up to do my next 5k in July, and my goal for this one will be to improve my time. And because I have Medifast supporting my goals, I can focus on running without having to worry about meal planning – and with as much as I have on my plate, I definitely couldn’t make time to do both. I am SO excited for what this summer has in store!
