I love finding new, ready-to-go meals that can save me time in the kitchen. Even better when they are delicious – and local! Fishpeople is a brand made right here in the Pacific Northwest, specializing in pre-packaged seafood dishes. Their products are packaged in a unique pouch which can either be microwaved or boiled, and gives you a full meal with little to no prep.
The first variety I tried was their Chinook Salmon & Sea Shell Pasta in a Wild Mushroom Sauce. All I did was microwave this for 1 minute and dump it on my plate with a little side salad, and boom! Lunch is served! Doesn’t get much easier than that. This tasty dish reminded me a bit of tuna noodle casserole – very tasty, satisfying, and EASY! I ate it by myself for lunch and it was a pretty generous portion.
We also had the chance to sample Fishpeople’s Albacore Tuna in Yellow Coconut Curry, Chinook Salmon in a Chardonnay Reduction Sauce, and Thai Coconut Lemongrass Tuna. These are meant to be served over pasta, rice or veggies since they are sauce-heavy meals – each pouch is meant to serve one person, but Jai and I split these for dinner and it was perfectly filling for our portion needs, since we were enjoying them with either quinoa or rice.
Jai is a big seafood lover and really enjoyed these – he said it tasted like “Real”, fresh fish, which can be hard to capture in a packaged meal. We tried to figure out which one was our favorite, but they were all so good! I think the Coconut Curry was my pick of the bunch, and Jai especially enjoyed the Salmon in Chardonnay, but couldn’t identify an absolute favorite because they were all so good.
Fishpeople have a cool approach to sustainability and local sourcing – you can click here to read more about their philosophy. They also have a feature where you can look up the tracking number on each pouch to see where the ingredients came from – I tried looking up the number on my Albacore Tuna, but my tracking number wass TCL0107 and the numbers on the site only go to TCL0106. I did look at the batch numbers from the Chardonnay Salmon, and all of their salmon is caught at Youngs Bay – this is quite literally as local as it gets for me, since I live in Seaside! When I told Jai how local it was, he said, “I’m not surprised – it tasted like fish I would catch myself!”. Pretty high praise for the freshness of this product, I’d say!
Fishpeople meals are available at select brick and mortar retailers in Oregon, Washington, Montana, Idaho, and Alaska and can also be purchased from their online store.
