Family fun in Albufeira
Albufeira is at the center of the Algarve’s tourist scene. The resort was once a sleepy fishing village that has been transformed into an impressive holiday destination known for its beaches. Albufeira is made up of two main areas, the Strip and the Old Town, both of which are worth experiencing during a holiday in the Algarve.
The Strip is the main area of bars and restaurants where you are bound to bump into lots of other Brits. The atmosphere is friendly and there are a wide range of restaurants offering cheap fast-food to more pricey meals. There will be something for everyone here – even for the fussiest child eater.
The Old Town is an area just back from the main beach, with narrow streets and an abundance of small shops, bars and restaurants for you to discover away from the bustle of the Strip. You will get a taste of traditional culture if you attend one of the bullfights that take place throughout the summer but if you’re of a sensitive nature then fear not, the bull in Portuguese fighting is not normally killed!
As one of Portugal’s busiest resorts, Albufeira is not short of places to stay. The area has an abundance of hotels, hostels and self-catering apartments that are perfect for holidays in all price ranges. If you want the luxury of a hotel and its facilities without paying a fortune then an all-inclusive deal could be the answer – book through Jet2Holidays to ensure you save money. The Luna Alpunis is an attractive hotel located in a quiet location on the outskirts of Albufeira. This is a good location for a peaceful family holiday with all the excitement of the resort center just a short journey away.
The main beach in Albufeira is the Praio do Peneco, which can be reached through a tunnel from the Old Town. There are also some quieter beaches outside the center of the resort such as Balaia and Praia de Gale where you can relax away from the crowds or try your hand at watersports. For day out with children, the Aqualand Algarve waterpark is the place to head for family entertainment. It is an impressive complex with lots of pools and waterslides to keep the kids busy and is covered with sun loungers where you sunbathe or read in the shade. This park is slightly out of town so hiring a car is the easiest way to get there.
