I find that shopping on-line is very convenient. Taking a child out shopping and remembering a snack a toy or whatever you might need is enough trouble. Add another child and no snacks then you’re entering a big mess. I as do many moms get quite a headache while out shopping with both of my children. I also hate shopping from now until Christmas, just the traffic drives me insane. I get really grumpy going out with all of the attitudes. So I like to stay in and shop on-line. I use Amazon a lot because my husband feels that they have a very secure site.
F-Secure wants to make more families feel safe and secure about all of their on-line shopping.
Featuring significant performance gains, a totally redesigned, easy-to-use user interface and a safer user experience that includes Browsing Protection, F-Secure Internet Security™ 2010 offers superior protection in every way. With the new version launch of this flagship product, F-Secure also introduces the company’s new brand commitment of “Protecting the irreplaceable,” recognizing the importance that security of digital content now has in people’s everyday lives.
F-Secure Internet Security™ 2010 is a complete security solution designed to meet the needs of today’s Internet users, (everyone, but I haven’t tried it so I can’t say that for sure) without slowing down their computers. It is light on memory use but fast and efficient in detecting all Internet threats. According to performance tests by the independent testing organization, AV-Test.org*, F-Secure Internet Security™ 2010 has 80% less overall system impact and 60% faster virus scans than the previous version. The product also uses 70% less memory than before.** F-Secure Internet Security 2010 also includes Browsing Protection to prevent infections from malicious websites and gives users instant classification information about websites in search results and in web-based email systems.
The completely redesigned user interface is clear and easy to use. The solution’s faster and lighter operation has not been achieved at the expense of security. New features also provide improved detection rates and a safer user experience, such as Browsing Protection. Unlike many other security programs, F-Secure Internet Security™ 2010 does not disturb or confuse the user as security problems are handled automatically.

This is one thing I always make sure to do. This is something that I had no idea existed though:
4. Use virtual credit card numbers
Paypal, most banks and many credit card companies offer virtual credit card numbers to use while shopping online.

These tips are very, very useful! I like the one about the “Make sure any site is secure before entering account information”, whereby you check to make sure there’s an “s” after http. I never knew this. Very interesting and important.

Make sure any site is secure before entering account information. Before you fill out any form, check the URL of the page you are on. You are looking for two things. First, make sure the address includes an “s” after the http like this https://. The extra “s” is for a secure connection. Then check to make sure that you are at a site you know and trust. Not sure if a site is legit? Google it or check it out on epinions.com or bizrate.com.

I already monitor my credit card and checking accounts but it’s a good reminder for all of us. My grandparents credit card number was lifted from online shopping and the jerk made $5000+ in fraudulent charges. Fortunately, after lots of phone calls and letters, my grandparents were not held responsible.
Read the fine print
A common ebay scam is to sell a picture of an item. So instead of that Netbook you thought you’d paid for, you’d get a .jpg or a Polaroid. Embarrassing, right? So don’t let it happen to you.
2. Monitor your credit card and checking accounts
Report any unauthorized use of your accounts to your bank or account holder at once.
I actually think that tip should be #1. You really need to be vigilant and stay on top of your statements. We’ve had unauthorized charges twice already and we were lucky to catch them the same day or the next day so we could contact our financial institution to rectify it swiftly.

Reading the fine print is the most important thing. illeagal scams you can get help but when a company pulls a bait and switch or some fancy hidden meanings you are stuck with the problem.
Monitor your credit card and checking account is a great one! I love this site, because last year, we had a ton of problems with fraud! Someone actually hacked into our account over 15 times within 6 months! Thanks for telling me about f-secure!

9. Double check any suspicious retailer
Have a deal that’s too good to resist? Done all the research you can about the site in question? Still worried? Investigate the retailer. Make sure the address of the company’s headquarters and warehouses are located in the same country as you. Still not sure? Contact the company by phone or move on to another e-retailer. Your financial data is too valuable to risk for one good deal.

Be careful of digital signatures. Be sure you know the consequences before you digitally sign anything.
The tip I have is Practice smart password security
READ THE FINE PRINT AND MAKE SURE (OR I DO) STICK WITH KNOWN RETAILERS
2. Monitor your credit card and checking accounts – this also keeps track of your spending 🙂
read the fine print and practice password security.
sprague.liz at gmail dot com
3. Look for an S after the http in a URL. It means it’s a more secure site. I had no idea about that one!
I definitely agree with number 10: Read the fine print
Be careful of digital signatures-
In the US and other countries, a digital signature can be the same as a physical signature. Also, a digital signature that you enter enters you into a legal contract. Make sure you’ve read everything through before you hit the button! Thanks so much for such a wonderful giveaway, this sure would be wonderful for the holidays!

Practice Phishing – it is amazing how sophisticated some of the email scams I get each day. Some are so bad that I have to laugh; others, it’s just scary. It is a good idea to get familiar with scams.

I love number 4…the one about virtual #’s on the internet for security. The fact that I don’t have a car and I will be doing about 90% of my shopping online- this is the one thing I will most likely do soon.
Thanks so much for the chance to win such a great prize. I defnintely look forward to hearing who the lucky winner is.

I like this tip the best:
Use different passwords for every account. Make your passwords unique and not guessable based off personal data. Change your passwords every few months. That’s a lot to remember, right? Our Labs folk recommend that you come up with a personal code to identify which password goes to which site. Then write those suckers down. Yep, write them down.

Virtual Credit Card numbers – I know they’re available, but I forget about them. Most of the time I’ll only buy from a known/respected site and use phishing filters to be safe, but the temporary CC #’s are a really good idea. Gonna have to bookmark a couple of those sites for future use.

10. Read the fine print
A common ebay scam is to sell a picture of an item. So instead of that Netbook you thought you’d paid for, you’d get a .jpg or a Polaroid. Embarrassing, right? So don’t let it happen to you.
Thanks!
Following on twitter @lisasamples
Before filling out a form, you should check the URL for an “s” after the http. That stands for secure connection. Then check that you are at a site you know and trust.
Some good advice there! For sure I’m going to remember to monitor my credit card and checking accounts.
Most of these safety rules are things I already do, but the virtual credit card number is one I’d never heard of. I am definitely going to look into that!

Read the fine print is the best advice ever. The context of an online sale can sometimes be very misleading. You can read and purchase what you believe to be an awesome deal only to find that the fine print is what you are actually buying. Read everything and purchase with caution.

This is a really important one: “2. Monitor your credit card and checking accounts” It’s something I do all the time and I feel a little more informed and in control.
I need to switch my passwords again…it’s been awhile!

Monitor your credit card and checking accounts is the best- you can’t stop theft if you don’t see it happening. I have known a few people who got slammed because they didn’t catch it until major damage had been done.

As some one who used to run a financial dept I am very aware of fraud tactics. I do 2. Monitor your credit card and checking accounts
Report any unauthorized use of your accounts to your bank or account holder at once.
religiously.
number 10 is read the fine print which is a very good tip. I’d never want to get scammed into purchasing a picture.

Probably one of the easiest tips to follow is using virtual credit card numbers. Many of the larger financial services like PayPal offer the service, and with a different number for every transaction, hackers are given the runaround instead of your financial information.

Keep your identity secure:
Protect your social security number at all costs. Never reveal your full social security number. It’s not necessary and legitimate retailers won’t ask for it. Also be very careful about posting or sharing any personal information including your birthday, addresses, favorite pet’s name—anything that could be used to identify you or crack your passwords.
I try to only shop at sites that a) Norton give the green light and b) has a secured server certificate

What a GREAT tip! I don’t ever take advantage of any offer or buy anything online without reading the fine print. If you don’t, you’re sure to be disappointed.

Monitor your credit cards and bank statements. This is so very important. Never, ever wait to open your bank statement and reconcile your checkbook. Be3cause the sooner you can report a discrepancy, or catch unauthorized transaction the better.

Check shipping facts and policies
Retailers generally do everything they can to add to their sales. Most every ecommerce transaction requires you to choose shipping methods. If the shipping costs seem excessive, you may be paying for the low cost of your order. Compare prices at sites like PriceGrabber.com and NexTag.com and find out if you’re really getting a deal. Also check minimum price requirements on any free shipping offers. Find out if it’s worth spending a bit more to save in the end. Also, consider tracking and insurance for larger or more expensive items.

Read the fine print
A common ebay scam is to sell a picture of an item. So instead of that Netbook you thought you’d paid for, you’d get a .jpg or a Polaroid. Embarrassing, right? So don’t let it happen to you.
Yes with any site read not just the fine print but all print!!!
