I was a voracious reader as a child, always checking books out of the library every week. I’ve also been immersed in technology from a relatively young age, so I find it fascinating to see how gadgets have changed and re-imagined our day-to-day lives. Today, children are just as likely to use an iPad to read their favorite stories on as a paper book, and I think about how cool I would have thought a tablet was when I was their age!
This kind of technology has also invented a new blending of mediums, where reading, animation, and games can come together. Take, for example, the new DreamWorks Press: Dragons app for iOS:
This app, based on the popular Dragons series, provides a read-along story where the words are highlighted, customizable for three different reading levels ranging from 5 and under to age 11. The story unfolds alongside animation, music, narration and interactive games – not only is this incredibly cool, but what a great learning tool as well! Here’s a few more specs on the app:
DreamWorks Press: Dragons’ is a groundbreaking, premium interactive story app based on the world and beloved characters from DreamWorks’ Dragon franchise. Following the launch of their publishing division, DreamWorks Press: Dragons is the studio’s first self-published story app, allowing readers to train their own dragons, explore unseen lands, and become the lead character within brand-new Dragon tales. The app is the initial installment in a series for which subsequent chapters will become available, continuing the reader’s adventure with Hiccup and Toothless.
DreamWorks Press: Dragons is available for iPad & iPhone and can be purchased for $4.99 at the iTunes store. Future chapters will be available for .99 each later this year.
