Whether you’re looking for a fun and easy last-minute craft, or just ran out of exfoliant in the shower this morning, this tutorial will work for you either way! This super simple sugar scrub only requires a few ingredients and comes together in a flash. It makes a beautiful gift and works wonderfully as a pampering bath product. Here’s what you need:
DIY Vanilla Body Scrub
Recipe adapted from Nielsen-Massey Vanillas
1 C Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Sugar
1/4 C coconut oil
1-2 drops essential oil (Optional)
Melt the coconut oil in the microwave, then pour into a medium bowl with the sugar. Add essential oil if desired, and stir thoroughly until mixed. That’s it!
This scrub works wonderfully to exfoliate skin; just rub it on gently while you’re in the shower or bath. It is a body scrub, so make sure to avoid the delicate skin on your face.
The original recipe calls for olive oil, but I used coconut oil instead because that’s what I had on hand. Coconut oil is very moisturizing and softening on the skin, which is nice. If you’ve ever worked with coconut oil, you know that the consistency changes with temperature; but don’t worry if it appears to solidify in the jar, as your natural body heat will soften it immediately. It works well as a body scrub, and I’m somewhat of an exfoliant snob, so there you go. 😉
The Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Sugar comes in a wonderful glass jar that is actually perfect for storing the sugar scrub in. All you need to do is peel off the label, and you have a beautiful empty jar.
Note: I had already used some of the sugar in other recipes before making this scrub, so once I prepared this recipe my bottle was already empty. If you start out with a full bottle, you will have sugar left over, so you can reserve that in a zip top bag if you want to use the jar for exfoliant storage/gifting.
And there you have it – an easy, practical, pretty gift!
