We all love quick and easy meals – but you would probably hesitate to pop open a box of macaroni and cheese for dinner guests. How would you like to find a ready-to-go meal that was short on prep time, but still worthy of company? After serving a selection of mixes from Bear Creek Country Kitchens to my extended family, I can say that this is one instant meal that I would feel comfortable serving up to guests.
Bear Creek Country Kitchens started as a homemade family effort in the Rocky Mountains. As their soup mixes drew rave reviews, the company grew and is now available across the US and online. They sent over a fun little variety pack of their most popular mixes to try out in my own kitchen, which I took over to Grandma’s house so that the whole family could weigh in. I started off with one of the soup mixes, Chicken Noodle:
Grandma is fond of chicken noodle soup, and the whole family enjoyed the rich flavor of this one.
After we had our “Soup starter”, I decided to whip up the Garlic and Herb pasta mix. I love garlic and I love pasta, so I was particularly looking forward to this one!
As I cooked this, the whole kitchen was filled with aroma; my cousin said, “It smells really good in here!”. We were all anxious to taste it, and it didn’t take long – all of the Bear Creek mixes that I tried only took around 12 minutes of cooking time.
The pasta was delicious, and once again, satisfied the whole family. If five people with different tastebuds can agree, I’d say that’s a winner!
What impressed me about this was how rich and creamy the flavor was, yet all I had to add was water. I would have thought that I’d at least have to put in my own milk, but it was big on flavor without me having to do anything other than heat up water. I can handle that!
But as it turned out, we saved the best for last when I made up a batch of Creamy Chicken soup:
I’m not usually a huge soup fan, but this is such a hearty dish with a creamy texture – and again, all I added was water.
My aunt said that she really enjoyed this soup – “And you can quote me on that!” – and thought the pasta shells were packed with flavor in every bite.
The whole family was particularly enamored with this soup – Jai told me that “This is the best soup I can remember having”! Based on these reactions, I’d serve Bear Creek any time I had family or friends over to visit. This would be especially great to keep in the cupboard for those “Emergency meals” when you have company at the last minute, since you can have it on the table in less than half an hour and don’t need anything other than water and a pot to make it. You can tell that Bear Creek is a family company, since it tastes like food mom would make! Well done!
