It’s funny how quickly time passes. When I was using my cutting board the other day, it dawned on me that I bought it almost 10 years ago. It’s been a sturdy little board, but it’s gotten some real wear over the last year. I had been thinking that I might need to get a new one soon, so when I received an email from Architec Housewares about their new line of cutting boards debuting this summer, it seemed like perfect timing!
You may remember Architec from my review of their Stackable Appetizer Maker last year. This time, they got in touch to tell me about their Gripper Flex Cutting Board, which I immediately knew I needed. This clever polypropylene cutting board actually flexes and bends so that you can easily move your chopped items directly into a pan, bag, garbage can, or whatever their final destination is. I thought this was genius! I often find it hard to move my old, glass cutting board to dump chopped food into pans, because if water gets underneath it – from, say, rinsing vegetables – it creates a vacuum that makes the cutting board stick to the counter. Oftentimes, I just grab handfuls of the chopped vegetables and toss them into the pan by hand. So I loved the idea of having such a handy and flexible cutting board!
For my first test, I decided to chop up a banana for an afternoon smoothie.
Just as advertised, the Gripper Flex made it effortless to slide my banana slices right into the food processor. I’m way too excited about this! I just know this is going to come in so handy – and I love that it’s a lightweight material, unlike my glass cutting board, so I don’t have to worry about it breaking if it gets dropped. According to the packaging, it also comes with a 5 year warranty.
Since I’ve just done this one test with bananas, I’m not sure what the non-stick base will be like when doing more intensive sessions with larger amounts of food, but I certainly don’t think the Gripper Flex will be on the chopping block! Get it?! Oh, I crack myself up. 😉
But that’s not the only innovative cutting board that Architec sent me. I also received this Concave Cutting Board, which is going to be the perfect birthday gift for my grandma. Her birthday is coming up soon, and she always tells us: “I have everything I could possibly need! I don’t need any gifts!” But because I’m defiant, I always try to think of something. 😉 Since she really appreciates functional items that can help around the house, I thought this would be perfect: The Concave Cutting Board has been created with a slight slope, a carving board designed to retain up to a quarter cup of juice from meat cuts in order to keep them moist.
This is going to be perfect for grandma, because she loves to cook big roasts for family dinners – and I mean big. I’ll never forget the family dinner where she made us all steaks that were literally the same size as the large dinner plates they were on! So what better for a succulent slab of beef than a quality cutting board that can retain the juice? I see grandma always messing around with pans trying to retain meat juices, so this seems like a perfect addition to her kitchen. The carving board also has rubber gripping feet at the bottom to help keep it from sliding.
Both of these products can be purchased either online at ArchitecProducts.com or at select brick & mortar stores – click here for their store locator. The Gripper Flex Cutting Board retails for $19.99, making it an item that everyone can easily pick up for their kitchen! The Concave Cutting Board retails for $59.99 and would be the perfect gift item for a birthday or wedding.
