Cooking with Kids, making Betty Crocker Mashed Potatoes

You may be thinking, boxed potatoes are you serious?

Yes, I am serious. Growing up I found box potatoes to be the most disgusting thing in the world. The smell of them reminded me of day care. Yuck, I hated them, well, my husband loves them so I’ve been reintroduced to them and they aren’t that bad. In fact they are

She really loves to help in the kitchen and this was something she could do almost completely by herself. We helped her measure out the potato buds. Then she added the butter and I added a little salt. I measured out the milk and she poured it in and then she stirred.

But all we had to do was heat them up and they were ready to stir.

They are decent if you add a lot of butter. I mean A lot even.

I use them time to time but add sour crean and garlic to them. What a cutie pie in the kitchen! Looks like she will take over the Betty Crocker empire someday 🙂

Potato buds have come a long way. I typically use red potatoes for meals but on lazy night, potato buds save me from all the peeling..and you’re right, it’s such an easy way for little ones to help in the kitchen.

    Aww, that’s adorable!
Since surgery I always have instant potatoes in the house and at work. Some are definitely better than others but some of them are actually really good. One of my favorites is the Betty Crocker Loaded Mashed in the pouch.

You know, I’ve not tried potato buds, but I have some other brand on occasion. I think I’ll check them out – for my DAYCARE! 🙂

Kids helping in the kitchen is the best way to get them interested in the foods they eat. I usually put out a small veggie plate and a healthy dip for snacking while we cook. The first time my daughter tried raw broccoli, I held my breath(I really don’t like mine raw) to this day it is one of her favorite RAW veggie!

We use the flavored Betty Crocker potatoes all the time. I don’t care for the potato buds at all – they need to be flavored!!

I love your cooking with kids posts! It’s always nice to see someone who cares as much as I do about bringing your kids into the kitchen. I use the boxed potatoes when I’m in a hurry. They’re really not as bad as I thought, especially when you need to get something on the table pronto!
